Position Duties

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

• Managing capital improvement projects, i.e., overseeing, controlling, and guiding the projects 
• Interfacing with the public, consultants, contractors, other City departments/sections, and other agencies, and responsible for timely response to the stakeholders' requests and concerns on projects. 
• Negotiating, preparing, and managing consultant agreements and/or construction contracts. 
• Working with client to prepare project scoping and budgeting. Tracking and managing project costs using appropriate tools and resources. 
• Preparing clearly written and effective reports and Council Memos. 
• Supervising staff such as Engineers and Engineering Technicians by prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. 
• Responsible for designing, procurement and construction management of capital projects. 
• Preparing and/or reviewing designs, improvement plans, estimates, specifications, and contract documents for capital improvement projects, private development or other engineering related projects that are prepared by subordinates and/or consultants engaged by the City or by private developers. 
• Reviewing and responding to Request for Information memos (RFIs) and submittals, negotiates change orders and reviews pay applications. 
• Supervising the collection and analysis of field data and prepares recommendations 
• Coordinating with construction inspectors and attends field meetings to resolve problems arising in the field during the construction of a public improvement project.

The City of Live Oak is looking to hire a Part-Time Assistant Planner. 

Definition 

Under direction of the Community Development Director, to provide basic professional level planning services in the areas of current planning and advanced planning, and to do other related work as required. 

Class Characteristics 

This is the entry-level class in the professional Planner series. This class is distinguished from the Associate Planner by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned. These positions receive general supervision from higher level professional and managerial staff.

Examples of Duties 

1. Review and route planning documents. petitions, permits, packets and records; analyze environmental checklists and environmental information forms and make specific recommendations following department procedures;
2. Review business license applications and development projects for zoning compliance; Coordinate the logging, data entry and distribution of a variety of planning and zoning documents;
3. Assist and represent planning staff at meetings;
4. Assist professional and technical staff with special projects including surveying, data gathering and reporting, analyses and computerized report presentations;
5. Compile spreadsheets and tables used in planning and zoning studies and reports;
6. Develop and update database records; coordinate program and archive files.
7. Respond to basic inquiries from the general public and resolve issues related to the City's planning and zoning procedures and specific permits; research and provide information to City staff and the general public regarding land use issues and standard environmental documentation;
8. Process zoning entitlements and prepare staff reports;
9. Confer with and advise architects, builders. attorneys, contractors, engineers, realtors, appraisers and the general public regarding standard City planning and zoning procedures.
10. Assist in drafting of ordinances;
11. Prepare a variety of reports and draft ordinances for City staff, the City Council, and the Planning Commission; prepare correspondence to fulfill policy and legal requirements and other similar documents.

Deputy Director of Environmental Services Water Distribution/Sewer Collection

The City of Sunnyvale is currently recruiting for a Deputy Director of Environmental Services – Water Distribution/Sewer Collection to join the Environmental Services Department. The Deputy Director of Environmental Services – Water Distribution/Sewer Collection leads a team of 46 staff and is  responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the City’s potable and recycled water distribution and sanitary and storm sewer collection systems; ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations; preparing and administering the division’s operating and capital improvement budgets; overseeing asset management and long-term infrastructure planning; coordinating with regional agencies, contractors, and community stakeholders; and fostering a safe, customer-focused, and high-performing team culture.

The City of Live Oak is looking to hire a Part-Time Code Enforcement Officer I or II DOE. 

Salary Range

Code Enforcement Officer I: $24.638 - $32.106 per hour

Code Enforcement Officer II : $27.375 - $35.673 per hour 

Definition 

Under general supervision, the Code Enforcement Officer I/II position primarily performs residential, commercial, and industrial site inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with City Municipal Codes and regulations in the areas of housing, zoning, development, and signage codes; investigates citizen complaints of public nuisances, quality of life, and health and safety issues; seeks voluntary compliance or issues citations; and performs related duties as assigned.

Class Characteristics 

Code Enforcement Officer I: This is the entry-level classification in the Code Enforcement Officer series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine and less complex assignments, while learning City policies and procedures. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; there is greater independence and less supervision within the established guidelines. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the Code Enforcement Officer II – level but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgement in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. This classification is alternatively staffed with Code Enforcement II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating a level of proficiency that meets the qualifications of the higher-level class.

Code Enforcement Officer II: This is the journey-level classification in the Code Enforcement Officer series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Code Enforcement Officer I – level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

Examples of Duties: Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Receives and responds to complaints regarding violations of zoning, housing, dangerous building and property maintenance codes, abandoned or inoperative vehicles, debris, unsanitary conditions, overgrown vegetation, signage, and other municipal code violations.
• Investigates possible violations, photographs evidence, and communicates with responsible persons via telephone, in person, or in writing; interprets codes and regulations and explains inspection procedures and regulations to involved parties.
• Prepares investigates reports and initiates procedures to obtain compliance with City codes by meeting with citizens and property owners, providing recommendations for compliance, issuing citations for violations as necessary, and conducting follow-up investigations.
• Prepares non-compliance cases for legal action; presents testimony at hearings.
• Coordinates with property with property owners and/or other City staff on abatement of hazardous items and/or abandoned property on vacant lots and other premises.
• Maintains records and prepares reports of inspections and related code enforcement files.
• Performs a variety of public relations and outreach work related to assigned activities by providing information on City codes and related regulations.
• Develops and maintains positive public relations with emphasis on customer services; maintains communication among the parties and responds to and resolves issues and complaints or refers them to the proper staff for resolution.
• Administers grants related to code enforcement activities, participates in grant application activities.
• Conducts special studies, surveys and analyses, and prepares reports as assigned.
• Observes and complies with all City mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
• Flexible availability required; must be able to work varying hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Position Duties

The Fleet Management Division in Public Works Department is responsible for the management of the City’s fleet including the comprehensive inspection, maintenance, repair, acquisition, and disposal. The City’s vehicle and equipment fleet currently consists of over 2,700 assets. 

The Department of Public Works Fleet Management Division is recruiting to fill one (1) Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (EMA I/II) position. The EMA I/II is responsible for performing inspections, communicating with other staff and customers, servicing, installation of electronic electrical equipment, ordering parts, entering data in the fleet management system, road testing and diagnosing problems to make various repairs and adjustments on automotive, heavy truck and/or heavy equipment. While working under general supervision, the EMA I/II will be expected to perform safely and follow all rules required by the City of San Jose. These positions, depending on facility assignment, will require working various shift hours and overtime.

Equipment Mechanic Assistant (Parts) position orders, receives, and issues automotive, truck, and equipment parts. This position also researches and identifies select parts for issue, stocks and verifies inventories, and utilizes the fleet database to manage inventories.

The Code Enforcement Officer is distinguished from the Supervisor by performing work of moderate difficulty and more routine tasks and duties assigned to this position within this classification series. These tasks involve inspections and enforcement of applicable ordinances pertaining to residential and commercial properties, housing, building construction, and other related regulations. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer will issue notices, citations, and follow up on compliance efforts in a fair and consistent manner. It is also imperative that the Code Enforcement Officer maintain accurate case files and documentation for possible legal proceedings.

Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level class in the maintenance series. Under general supervision the applicant will perform semi-skilled and skilled labor and maintenance repair. Salary $44,680.45 - $57,743.03 per year ($21.484 - $27.758 per hour) DOQ

Maintenance Worker III: This is the senior level class in the maintenance series.
