ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Public Works Services Department invites you to apply for the position of Public Works Maintenance Worker III Equipment Operator in the Right-of-Way Division. The Right-of-Way Division is responsible for maintenance of the City’s public right-of-way including streets and roadways, parking lots, roadway markings and painting, streetlights, traffic signals and signs, and street cleaning.  

The position will report to the Public Works Field Supervisor and will serve as a skilled maintenance worker operating a variety of heavy equipment in the construction and maintenance of public right-of-way- assets, assist in scheduling and reviewing work, perform a variety of skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, repair streets and sidewalks, and occasionally lead a field crew in assigned work. Work will include the skillful operation of construction and maintenance equipment such as street sweepers, backhoes, paving machines, dump trucks, rollers, trucks, tractors, and skip loaders. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the full journey-level classification in the wastewater treatment plant operator series. Incumbents independently perform the full range of wastewater treatment and reclamation and recycled water facilities and equipment operations and maintenance duties. Responsibilities include inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater treatment plant systems and equipment. Positions at this level work independently, exercise judgment and initiative and receive occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise. This class is distinguished from the Lead Plant Operator in that the latter is responsible for providing technical and functional direction to operations staff and is capable of performing the most complex operations and maintenance duties assigned to the division.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives supervision and direction from the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager or designee. Exercises lead oversight, including provision of technical supervision, assignment of work and/or the training of less experienced staff.

The Department: 

The Community Development Department strives to enhance the community’s safety, welfare, quality of life, and economic opportunities by providing advanced planning, development review, permitting and inspection services, as well as administration of programs related to affordable housing. 

The Community Development Department consists of three divisions: Planning, Building, and Housing and Community Services. The Department guides the ongoing physical development of the community, which includes long range land use planning, review of new development proposals and construction to ensure that it conforms to the standards of the City and State and ensures the provision of affordable housing with the City of Santa Clara. The delivery of high-quality professional services, including the enhancement and streamlining of the development permit process, and forging partnerships to provide housing services to lower income members of the community, are primary objectives of the Department. The Position: 

The incumbent provides high-level public information and community outreach services that require in-depth knowledge of public sector communications, website content and graphic design, and experience in managing and implementing creative and innovative promotions and projects.

This role is essential to centralizing the department’s communication efforts and ensuring that both internal and public-facing messages are strategic, consistent, and impactful.
 
The Communications Coordinator will be housed in the Technology and Communications Team and will be supervised by the Assistant Director. The Communications Coordinator will work across all divisions and will not only help streamline communications related to key initiatives and projects but also serve as an internal consultant, helping staff develop clear, effective messaging across all channels. This will enable the department to better meet increasing demands from the City Manager’s Office for improved web content, newsletters, and outreach efforts, while also promoting the department’s key initiatives and projects to a broader audience.

Under general direction, the Communications Coordinator coordinates and maintains content on the Department's website and intranet; implements and supports internal and external communication efforts; and coordinates social media and video communication activities. Incumbents may function as a supervisor, or an individual contributor, depending on the department or assignment.

The City of East Palo Alto has two vacancies for Maintenance Worker I. Key responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following: 

• Enhance, maintain, and support mission-critical on-premises web applications built with Node.js and Angular, including implementing complex enhancements, troubleshooting cross-layer issues, improving performance and reliability, and ensuring long-term maintainability aligned with evolving business and technical needs.
• Develop and maintain integrations between on-premises web applications and SaaS platforms such as Smartsheet and SharePoint.
• Manage enterprise-scale relational databases and develop complex queries to support data analysis, system integration, and reporting needs.

• Strong programming skills in JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Extensive experience developing responsive web applications using Node.js and Angular, or comparable modern web frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle or SQL Server, including database design and development of complex queries.
• Solid understanding of front-end and back-end application architecture, with the ability to troubleshoot and debug issues efficiently across the stack.
• Experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs, with working knowledge of HTTP protocols, authentication methods, and common data formats such as JSON and XML.
• Experience with Smartsheet, or the ability to quickly learn and apply advanced Smartsheet features with minimal training.

The City is planning for the replacement and expansion of two of its existing fire stations, modernizing and relocating the facilities to better serve the public.
