Mill Valley is a full-service city located 10 miles north of San Francisco and has a rich history with engaged residents. Mill Valley is primarily a suburban community, with a thriving downtown and distinctive residential neighborhoods. The City’s approximately 14,000 residents live in a 4.8 sq. mile area.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Neighborhood Response Group (NRG) Coordinator position will be filled within the Management Analyst Series and will be housed in the City Manager’s Office/Administrative Services Department.
The City plans to recruit flexibly within the Management Analyst Series (Management Analyst I or II) and will determine the appropriate level based on the qualifications, experience, and overall fit of the selected candidate. At the minimum, this position will be filled on a part-time basis at 15–20 hours per week.
Based on fit between the candidate and the City, we are willing to consider up to full-time employment, including a benefited position, depending on what the top candidate brings to the table and their ability to fit other needs of the City. The City is open to hiring up to full time with benefits for the right individual whose skills, availability, and experience align with organizational needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for a community-oriented individual to lead local disaster preparedness efforts and other community related projects/programs. Primarily, you will play a vital role in building community resilience by organizing and empowering residents to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. You will develop and manage the City’s Neighborhood Response Group (NRG) program, working directly with Mill Valley residents to strengthen neighborhood connections and provide vital emergency response training.
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Recruiting and mentoring block captains, training volunteers, developing outreach strategies, and serving as a liaison between residents and City Staff
- Supporting the Emergency Preparedness Commission (EPC)
- Collaborating closely with first responders, local agencies, and community organizations to advance Mill Valley’s public safety and emergency preparedness goals
- Provide additional program development and/or project management as assigned
