ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Library and Recreation Department is comprised of two divisions, Library and Recreation & Childcare, that are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of San Rafael residents. The Department’s mission is to enrich the community through discovery, learning, and play, and strives to maximize the delivery of strategically aligned programs and services to provide the highest value for the community.

The Library Division operates with a $4.4 million budget and 22 full-time employees in fiscal year 2024/2025. The San Rafael Public Library consists of three branches—Downtown, Pickleweed, and Northgate—and is part of the MARINet consortium. Exciting projects include a $3 million modernization of the Downtown branch, set for completion by July 2025, and a $2 million renovation of the Pickleweed branch, with construction beginning in August 2025. Additionally, the City is planning a new, joint Library and Community Center at Albert Park, while also focusing on operational improvements and championing innovative library programs and services.

THE POSITION

The Senior Library Assistant performs the most complex paraprofessional library work; assists patrons; implements programs, outreach, and marketing; supervises volunteer or part-time staff within a designated service area; and provides lead direction to other Library Assistants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Including but not limited to)

• Perform advanced work related to the circulation of materials both physically and in the Integrated Library System.  
• Provide a range of services to patrons, including complex account and circulation requests; mid-level reference and readers' advisory; and advanced assistance with accessing library materials, technology, and resources.
• Enforce library guidelines and policies to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all library visitors.
• May implement and lead library programs, events, and volunteers.
• May assist with library marketing and promotional efforts.
• May occasionally lead outreach visits outside the library at events and to community partners to present and promote library services.
• Perform special projects related to maintenance and improvement of library services and collections.  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.  A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skill and ability outlined  in the job spec is:  

• High School diploma or certified equivalent, AND 
• At least four (4) years of experience comparable to the Library Assistant classification series at the City of San Rafael.  
• College level course work in library science is desirable and may substitute for up to one year of the required experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• While possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License is not required, incumbents may need to report to different job sites and travel to offsite outreach, events, etc.  
• Ability to report to different locations during the workday to perform the essential functions of the position may be required.

About the Position:  The Farm Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and construction tasks at Deer Hollow Farm in the Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve and reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. Deer Hollow Farm is an educational, working farm with cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, and other livestock.  Duties include performing maintenance and construction tasks using hand and power tools, operating and maintaining Farm vehicles, and assisting with daily Farm operations. The Farm Maintenance Worker will also assist with basic support and care of animals; greet visitors and provide information to the public; and work with volunteers on farm-related projects. Working Conditions:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by college-level coursework in facilities management, construction project management, or a related field, and three (3) years of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of farm properties and related facilities.

Licenses & Certifications Required:  

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within six (6) months of employment.

DESCRIPTION:

The Department:

The Santa Clara Fire Department was established in 1854 when local residents formed the Columbia Hose Volunteer Fire Company. Today, the city has 9 fire stations (one more in design process) consisting of 8 engines, 2 trucks, 1 rescue/light unit, 1 hazardous materials unit, 1 ambulance and 2 command vehicles. The fire department is comprised of 175 personnel staffed across five divisions and serves a population of approximately 130,000 people spread over 18.4 square miles.  The Fire Administration Division provides management, organization, and support for the various divisions of the fire department actively engaged in the protection of life and property.  The Emergency Medical Services Division is responsible for training personnel to deliver pre-hospital emergency medical services to people who live, work and visit in Santa Clara.  The Community Risk Reduction Division is primarily responsible for fire safety education, fire cause determination, inspection of high hazard occupancies, and fire code enforcement. This division also maintains a vital role as technical consultant to the fire department, the City, and the business community, advising on site construction, process installation, and the safe use and handling of hazardous materials as outlined in federal, state, and local regulations. The Field Operations Division efficiently manages over 11,000 emergency responses annually.  The Training Division provides services to the Fire Department, other City departments, industry, and the community at large.

The Position:

Firefighter I is the entry level classification in the Firefighter series. An incumbent in this classification responds to medical emergencies, fire alarms, performs rescue services, and protects life and property endangered by fire. When qualified and assigned, Firefighter I's may be assigned to paramedic duties. Performs related duties as assigned.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Demonstrated proficiency in a second language, in accordance with the City's needs
• Military experience, journey-level status in the building construction trades, or other work experience relevant to the fire service
• Community service experience
• Completion of thirty (30) or more units of coursework in Fire Science/Technology at an accredited college
• An associate's or higher-level degree from an accredited college or university
• Possession of a valid California Paramedic (EMT-P) license (required prior to appointment to a Paramedic assignment)
• A valid California Class A or B commercial driver's license

Other Requirements:  

• Typically assigned to a 56-hour workweek (24-hour shifts); may be assigned to a 40-hour workweek as required
• May be required to work odd and unusual hours, including weekends and designated holidays and to be subject to call-back in the performance of job duties
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment

Physical Requirements:

• At least 21 years of age

Additional steps (Step F, Step G, and Step H) included in the salary range listed above are available to employees in this job classification after completion of five years of service (Step F), ten years of service (Step G), and 15 years of service (Step H), and one year at the prior step, and good performance evaluation.  Initial salary placement is typically at the entry point of the range unless the candidate has prior Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist experience which may warrant initial placement at a higher step.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting to fill the position of Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist in the Administrative Services & Human Resources/Risk Management Department, Facilities Division.

In this exciting opportunity, the Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist will work under direct supervision of the Facilities & Fleet Superintendent and will be responsible for maintaining and constructing all City buildings, structures, and park facilities. This role calls for a dynamic team player with outstanding communication and customer service skills, a positive attitude in the face of challenges, and a commitment to going the extra mile. It requires someone who can work independently, collaborate effectively as part of a team, and has experience supervising or coordinating work and overseeing the performance of others.

The Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist is distinguished from the Facilities Maintenance Specialist in that the Senior Specialist is expected to perform the more challenging and complex tasks and is expected to perform certain administrative functions in support of the Facilities Division. This role offers a blend of strategic oversight and hands-on work. You'll have the opportunity to lead initiatives that impact the community directly, such as energy efficiency upgrades, safety improvements, and facility renovations. These tasks include a range of semi-skilled construction and repair work involving the use of basic tools and trade-related equipment. Duties may involve repairing electrical equipment and wiring systems; fixing windows, doors, cabinets, and other building components; maintaining interior and exterior furniture such as tables, chairs, benches, and bookcases; performing general plumbing repairs and installations; and carrying out basic concrete and masonry work. 

Additionally, you must be able to diagnose mechanical problems and methodically troubleshoot any issues occurring with building systems, machines, and equipment. This role also serves as a trainer and provides leadership to the team on specific tasks and projects.

FIRST YEAR PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS:

• Assist in procurement efforts by obtaining vendor quotes for the installation of an HVAC system in the Annex server room.
• Assist with gathering and analyzing solar generation data to quantify the saving generated from the installation of solar panels at four city locations.
• Evaluate current Facilities Preventative Maintenance Program/Schedule and make recommendations for improvements and to include efficient work distribution to the Facilities team.

About the Department

Position Duties

The City of San Jose is recruiting for a part-time School Crossing Guards in the Police Department during the normal school year.  Work involves providing for the safe conduct of elementary and junior high school children across heavily traveled streets and reporting problems requiring possible police action. Positions may involve substituting at different corners or a regular location assignment.  In general, these assignments are a split shift with approximately ten (10) hours per week.  School Crossing Guards are required to work outside regardless of weather conditions and must be able to provide a uniform as specified by the Police Department.   Work includes outside duties and exposure to weather.  Work may include the physical ability to sit, stand, walk quickly, step up/down from the curb, reach, push and/or pull, twist and or rotate, bend, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, use hands hold and use a stop sign the entire shift, use other hand to stop traffic and use a whistle at the same.

Under general supervision, the Police Officer performs a wide variety of patrol and related duties involving the prevention of crime, the protection of life and property, and the enforcement of Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances. The incumbent makes investigations, assists in the preparation of cases, and testifies in court; serves in specialized departmental roles as assigned. This is a sworn journey-level law enforcement classification that performs all assignments found in a municipal police department. The Police Officer provides information and assistance to the public; performs related work as assigned.
