The Dixon Fire Department is looking to fill one, full-time regular position of Fire Administrative Analyst. This position provides administrative support in the fire department environment including management of records; office management; reception; research; budget preparation; document preparation; project management; and supervision.

This is the primary administrative managerial position in the fire department environment, reporting directly to the Fire Chief. It requires a considerable degree of initiative, independent judgement and tact in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters. Exercises full supervisor responsibility for the work of technical and clerical positions.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The ability to work effectively under supervision and within a team structure is a significant element of the position.  Effective communication skills are needed work safely and be successful in the position.  The Firefighter should be self-motivated, able to complete work assigned in an effective, efficient, and safe manner, and be able to exercise independent judgment.  The capability of performing duties during various emergency operations is essential.  Firefighters must be able work for extended periods of time at emergency incidents that may involve physical exertion often under adverse environmental conditions.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Supervision is received from a Fire Captain.  Work is inspected in process and upon completion.  A Firefighter is responsible for their personal actions and conduct.  Evaluations are provided on a regular schedule and are based on individual performance as well as their interactions with other Company and Department members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Be an advocate for the mission statement, core values, and goals of the City of Lincoln and the Lincoln Fire Department.
• Communicates and establishes positive working relationships with the general public in order to deliver service of all types including emergency response, business inspections, participating in school programs, answering questions, and assessing customer needs.
• Completes tasks as assigned.
• Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service as a member of a fire company.
• Assisting in the fire suppression activities including operating electric generators, ventilation fans, deploying and connecting hose lines; holding nozzles and directing water streams; raising and climbing ladders; using portable fire extinguishers, axes, bars, hooks, ropes, power-driven tools, and other equipment; use of salvage covers to prevent water damage; overhauling and cleaning up after a fire.
• Operate fire department vehicles and apparatus.
• Donning and working in personal protective equipment including self contained breathing apparatus.
• Upon return to the fire station, clean, service, and ensures apparatus and equipment are available for emergency response.
• Administer first aid and operate various emergency medical devices.
• Perform rescue operations of persons in life and non-life threatening situations.
• Proper use of fire department communication equipment.
• Cleans and maintains station quarters and grounds; performs first-line preventive maintenance on apparatus; cleans, maintains and tests equipment.
• Participates in fire drills and training exercises.
• Become familiar with City streets, fire hydrants, building occupancies and contents.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Position requires: sitting, twisting and reaching for equipment; perform various tasks that require standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, climbing, kneeling, simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; wear appropriate personal protective equipment; perform physical activities of a strenuous nature; see and hear with sufficient acuity; may lift heavy objects, especially when responding to or operating at emergency situations or incidents.

The work environments described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.  Positions requires: working indoors and outdoors; traveling in a vehicle to emergency situations or other calls for service at anytime of day; may be exposed to atmospheres that may be immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH) including dust, noise, smoke, fumes, gases, oil, grease, constant equipment vibration, machinery with moving parts, moving objects and other vehicles, wet and slippery surfaces; working unusual and prolonged schedules during emergencies in all weather conditions including extreme temperatures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification:

Age

• Must be at least 18 years of age

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent.  Fire Science Certificate from a regionally accredited college or university is highly desirable.

Experience

• The knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Firefighter can be obtained by any combination of the following: successful work experience history involving significant public contact with customer service responsibilities, course work in fire science, experience as a paid or volunteer Firefighter, or successful completion of a Fire Training Academy.

License/Certificate

• If no prior firefighting experience is possessed, applicants must be current on the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Statewide Eligibility List (SEL) as of 09/26/2025.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Skill to:  Safely operate fire apparatus; safely operate fire equipment and tools; operate an office computer and a variety of word processing and software applications; demonstrate proficiency in the English language.

SRFECC is preparing for a Dispatcher Academy, beginning September 2025! As a Dispatcher I, you will be a key player in the public safety network, managing both emergency and non-emergency calls. Your role involves receiving critical information, dispatching appropriate Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) resources, providing live-saving instructions, relaying facts, and ensuring effective communication throughout the incident. Position Duties

The San José Fire Department (SJFD) is seeking to fill multiple Senior Public Safety Dispatcher positions in the Communications Division.  

Senior Public Safety Dispatchers (Senior PSDs) are responsible for supervising a team of Public Safety Radio Dispatchers (PSRDs) assigned to a shift in the Communications Center.  PSRD is the journey-level class for public safety dispatching within the City of San José wherein incumbents are required to handle the full range of telephone answering and dispatch functions.

Responsibilities of the Senior PSD include, but are not limited to the following:

• Supervising PSRDs, including approving time-off and other scheduling requests in accordance with the established guidelines.
• Assigning PSRDs to work the various dispatch positions within the Communications Center. 
• Conducting training sessions and drills to maintain the efficiency and coordination of their assigned team. 
• Evaluating the performance of team members and giving frequent feedback to subordinates.
• Preparing written training evaluations and performance appraisals.
• Investigating and responding to resident, department, and allied agency concerns or complaints.
• Coordinating with Chief Officers in the field regarding matters affecting department operations.
• Performing additional support tasks when assigned to an administrative role in the Operations Unit, Training Unit, Quality Improvement Unit, or Systems Support Unit. 
• Performing all duties of the PSRD classification.

Deputy Fire Marshal
Salary Range: $6,750.00 to $13,383.33 Monthly
 

This position will report directly to the Fire Marshal. The Deputy Fire Marshal is an advanced level position. Duties include, but are not limited to reading, interpreting, and enforcing all State statutes and regulations under the authority of the State Fire Marshal (SFM), and all standards as adopted by SFM as well as UCDH policies. This position will act as a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas. This position will regularly lead projects of critical importance to the organization; these projects carry substantial consequences of success or failure. May direct programs with organizational-wide impacts that include formulating strategies and administrating policies, policies, processes, and resources. In this position, the individual will perform detailed inspections of buildings under the authority of the UCDH Fire Marshal’s Office. Provide fire and life safety education to occupants. Analyze hazardous materials and functional use of space during construction plan review and validate post-occupancy use for compliance. This position may serve as State Fire Marshal (SFM) Designated Campus Fire Marshal (DCFM) for the UCDH Hospital and other UCDH medical¬ related facilities. Note, that SFM has the sole authority to approve a candidate as an SFM DCFM.

Additionally, persons in this position are expected to perform plan reviews, construction inspections, and existing building inspections, participate in the Incident Command System, and understand and apply Joint Commission and CMS requirements, NFPA Standards, and California Code of Regulations.

Required Qualifications

• OSFM Fire Inspector 2A- 2D training class series and/or ICC Building Code Certification.
• Must possess a valid California Driver’s License
• Five (5) years of experience in building, fire, or hazardous materials inspections.
• College education/training equivalent to a BS level in Fire Science, Construction, Chemistry, or similar related field.
• Experience working within “Authority Having Jurisdiction” for enforcement of regulations, or someone who has completed an apprenticeship (time/experience) and is fully educated/experienced in construction.

Preferred Qualifications 

• OSFM Certification as a Fire Inspector 2
• ICC Building Code Official Certification
• Hazardous Material Inspection experience.
• Experience in hospital inspections &/or construction.
• Thorough knowledge and skill in one or more of the following fields: Hazardous Materials Inspections, Laboratories, Hospital &/or Construction Inspections.
• Demonstrates excellent working knowledge of the California Health and Safety Code sections under the authority of the Office of the State Fire Marshal, California Code of Regulations Title 24, NFPA, and other standards required for Fire Prevention activities within the state of California.
• The ability to manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources while functioning with a high degree of autonomy.
• Decision-making is based on established procedures and integration/interpretation of relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policy; professional best practices; relevant science methodology, impact on other UCDH programs; and senior management approvals. Decisions may impact other programs, departments, segments of the organization, and/or organization wide.
• Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the job; ability to intermittently analyze work papers, reports, and special projects; identify and interpret technical and numerical information; observe and problem solve operational and technical policies and procedures; determine compliance; identity, interpret, explain, and enforce violations; review and interpret codes and rules; maintain awareness of safety at all times.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to effectively communicate with UCDH Administrators, Contractors, Consultants, and Regulatory Agencies.
• Demonstrates ability to manage numerous details simultaneously and work under severe time constraints, competing deadlines, conflicting demands, and frequent interruptions.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in solving issues and adhering to the UCDH Policies and Procedures.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills to handle a wide variety of assignments in different phases to determine appropriate action.
• Ability to recognize when a problem or emergency must have an immediate response and then be able to initiate action.

Special Requirements 

• Must participate in the department’s DMV Pull Notice Program. Must pass a pre-employment Live Scan Fingerprinting Background check.
• Administrative deadlines or emergency incidents will require the incumbent to work a certain amount of unscheduled non-paid overtime.
• Typically, this position provides services during normal business hours of operation; however, the individual must be able to work flexible hours that can include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Occasional overtime as required to meet operational needs.
• Ability to work in a high-stress structured environment.
• Ability to maintain maximum confidentiality and professionalism while working with complex issues.
• Ability to work in a non-smoking environment.
• The incumbent will be exposed to alarms and other auditory warning devices. Must be able to function in a multi-disciplinary and fast-paced work environment while maintaining the need for quality, accuracy, completeness, and timelines.
• This position requires individuals to have the mobility to climb ladders and stairs and be able to differentiate between various alarm signals.
• This position may, at times require the incumbent to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present and, as such, the incumbent will be required to participate in a medical monitoring program and other programs necessary to enter a hazardous materials environment.
• Will be required to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions; tolerate very hot and very cold temperatures; walk over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; work at heights greater than 10 feet; climb ladders or steps to reach objects; work in small, cramped areas; bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time; discriminate among colors or match colors of wiring systems and color-coded valves and piping; stand or walk for extended periods of time with the inability to rest at will and use arms above shoulder level. When not performing duties in the field, incumbents work in an indoor office setting and are required to enter data into a terminal, PC, or keyboard device; produce written documents using proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling; use graphic instructions, blueprints, and layouts as part of the plan review process when checking for code compliance; and sit for extended periods of time with the ability to move at will.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the position of Public Safety Dispatcher with an energetic and highly motivated individual who possesses excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills.

 
Under general supervision of the Senior Public Safety Dispatcher, processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire, medical, rescue, animal control or other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as computer aided dispatch systems (CAD); and performs related work as required.

The minimum qualifications required for this position are - Graduation from high school or tested equivalent; and Two years of experience dispatching police and/or fire services for a public safety agency utilizing contemporary dispatching technical tools, including computer aided dispatching systems; or successful completion of probation as a Public Safety Dispatcher-in-Training with the City of Sunnyvale.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS 

The position of Public Safety Officer Academy Attendee/Graduate is the training level classification for general police and fire work for those incumbents not affiliated with an agency and currently enrolled in a police academy. Incumbents are not sworn personnel and are generally in this classification until successful completion of the police academy. Assignment to this classification is temporary. If incumbents do not successfully complete a police academy, they will be terminated.  Incumbents hired after the graduation from the California POST Basic Academy are not sworn personnel and are generally in this classification until they are promoted to Public Safety Officer I.

Public Safety Officer Academy Attendee/Graduate is distinguished from the higher-level Public Safety Officer I in that the latter is a sworn position where incumbents continue training for both police and fire duties. Incumbents must successfully complete the police academy prior to being promoted to the classification of Public Safety Officer I.

The Position 
As a Public Safety Dispatcher II, this non-sworn classification dispatches public safety, fire, and emergency medical services out into the community. The successful incumbent will be responsible for receiving incoming calls for police, fire, or medical assistance and dispatch necessary units. This classification is distinguished from the Public Safety Dispatcher I by a broader range of responsibility due to a higher level of experience and training.  

Candidates must attain a passing score on each phase of the examination process to qualify for the Eligible List. A department interview will be required prior to appointment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey-level classification in the non-sworn flexibility staffed Public Safety Dispatcher I/II series. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the class of Public Safety Dispatcher I in that the latter is the entry level class where incumbents are trained on full range of dispatch functions under immediate supervision. This class is distinguished from the Senior Public Safety Dispatcher in that the latter has full responsibility for supervising a shift of Public Safety Dispatchers I/II.

 

 

Typical Duties

 

Each position in this classification may not include all the duties listed below, nor do the examples cover all the duties that may be performed.

• Operates base radio console equipment, transmitting and receiving routine and emergency messages
• Receives emergency and routine requests for services from the public via 9-1-1, alternate emergency lines, and business lines
• Dispatches appropriate emergency vehicles, equipment and personnel in response to those requests, in accordance with established policies and procedures
• Coordinates emergency operations between various departmental personnel and equipment
• Operates data terminals for information pertaining to daily public safety operations, and general emergency services
• Maintains written logs, files, and computer information in the prescribed manner
• Updates computer files and performs other clerical functions and tasks as directed
• Performs other related duties as assigned

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
• The equivalent of two (2) years of paid employment experience in public safety dispatching within the past five (5) years of which at least one (1) year included solo status; or
• Five (5) years of current paid employment with a public safety agency or private emergency medical services agency, with high level Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio and/or telephone operation; or
• Successful completion of probationary period as a Public Safety Dispatcher I with the City of Santa Clara.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS

• Possession of a valid California POST Public Safety Dispatcher Basic certificate, which may be substituted for six (6) months of the solo status experience.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Classroom education involving fire science or law enforcement related studies.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

• Possession of a valid California POST Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Certificate and a valid Medical Priorities Dispatching System (MPDS) Certificate are required prior to the completion of the probationary period.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment. All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and may include polygraph and/or psychological testing.

PERMANENT CITY EMPLOYEES PREFERENCE POINTS
Current permanent employee candidates who receive a passing score on the examination will have an additional five (5) points added to his/her final score.

What's the Role?

Plans, organizes, manages and directs the activities of the Accountants, Accounts Payable, and Payroll within the Finance Department, provides highly complex staff assistance to the Director of Finance within the Finance Department; performs other related duties as required. Experience in government accounting is a plus!

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Accounting Manager is the management-level class responsible for assisting the Director, or designee, in the day-to-day administrating, directing and managing of assigned divisions. This classification is distinguished from that in the lower classification of Principal Accountant by their responsibility for overall management of the accounting division.

Supervision Received/Exercised

Receives general direction from the Director of Finance or his/her designee. Exercises direct supervision over professional, technical, and clerical accounting staff.
