Maintenance Worker I

This is the entry-level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents with basic maintenance experience learn City infrastructure, systems, grounds, parks, facilities, use of tools and equipment, and a wide variety of practices and procedures. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the II level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Maintenance Worker II

This is the journey-level class in the Maintenance Worker series responsible for performing the full range of duties required to ensure that City infrastructure, grounds, parks, and facilities to which assigned, are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for public use. Responsibilities include inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner, and performing a wide variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of assigned areas. Positions at this level are distinguished from the level I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgment and initiative. The Position

• Install, maintain, repair and research a variety of supervisory controls and replacement electrical components that are part of advanced wastewater treatment processes such as aeration, filtration, disinfection and dichlorination, sludge dewatering, odor control, and an environmental laboratory.
• Perform wiring required for the installation of electronic equipment; electrical conductors in conduits; splice high and low voltage cables utilizing hand taping and pre- molded splice kits.
• Design, install, maintain, repair, test and construct electrical assemblies.
• Troubleshoot plant electrical systems, controls and related process equipment. Provide technical support for other work groups within Public Works.
• Specify, install, program, and repair various types of variable frequency motor drive systems.
• Fabricate, maintain, install, service, and calculate power load distributions to various motors and related equipment.
• Install and repair programmable logic controllers and install related hardware and software for control systems in conjunction with controls technician.

The County of San Mateo’s Department of Public Works is seeking applications for the position of Equipment Mechanic III.

The Equipment Mechanic III, under general supervision, service and repair water district pumps and emergency generators, perform mechanical maintenance and repair work on road construction equipment in the shop as well as out in the field and perform routine maintenance and repair tasks as appropriate.

The Vehicle and Equipment Services Section maintains, inspects, services, and repairs County motor vehicles including school and other buses, trucks, equipment, Sheriff's Office vehicles, and motor pool vehicles. Our service and repair stations are located in Redwood City and San Mateo.

 

Examples Of Duties

 

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Inspect and maintain water district pumps and all emergency generators.

Physical Requirements
This position requires a moderate to high level of physical activity depending on program assignment. Duties may include standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and sitting for extended periods of time while facilitating programs, interacting with participants, or performing administrative tasks. Employees must be able to actively supervise and engage participants in a variety of recreation programs and activities, both indoors and outdoors, and move quickly to respond to participant needs and ensure safety. The position may also require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment, supplies, tables, chairs, or other materials weighing up to approximately 30 – 50 pounds as part of program setup and breakdown. Some assignments may involve computer and desk work for program planning, communication, and administrative duties.

Seasonal employees are limited to working no more than 999 hours in a fiscal year.

Under the direct or general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, performs a variety of duties to supervise the pool, decks, and additional areas of an aquatic facility; and provides swimming instruction.

The position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The incumbent needs to have the ability to hear and speak for purposes of communication. The position also requires both near and far vision when administering programs and operating equipment. The incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold.

The City of Lincoln is hiring up to 12 Senior Recreation Aides within the Recreation Department. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate a passion for working with children, along with strong reliability, creativity, and enthusiasm.

Seasonal employees are limited to working no more than 999 hours in a fiscal year.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of frontline staff duties within the City Recreation Department and other related duties as required.

The Senior Recreation Aide is the advanced journey level class and is responsible for performing more complex assignments within an established procedural framework where there are consequences of error. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Recreation Coordinator by the performance of complex assignments and supervisory responsibilities.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

Receives supervision from administrative and/or management staff. Incumbents of this class do not routinely exercise supervision but those at the higher levels may be asked to supervise from time to time but not on a consistent basis.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (include but are not limited to the following)

Duties specific to working as a Recreation Aide in the Sports arena:

• Assist with the following: set-up and tear down of program equipment, preparation of playing fields and routine facility maintenance.
• Keep statistics and accurate score for basketball, softball, flag football, soccer & volleyball.
• Collect and record the team’s lineups and assist officials during the game with specific rules and policies.
• Officiate adult & youth volleyball, youth basketball & youth flag football games.
• Uphold the rules of play and code of conduct.

Duties specific to working as a Recreation Aide in the Camp/General arena: 

• Develop and implement activities and programs for youth.
• Directly supervise children, monitor and redirect behavior, both on site and during trips.

Duties that pertain to both areas:

• Assist with the creation and distribution of advertising material for upcoming recreational programs and events.
• Assist with the distribution & collection of participant surveys.
• Demonstrate understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties.
• Establish positive working relationships with City management and staff, and the public.
• Assist with special events and perform other duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The incumbent needs to have the ability to hear and speak for purposes of communication. The position also requires both near and far vision when administering programs and operating equipment. The incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold.

Basic principles of reading and mathematics, applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations, including recreational manuals and specifications; standard office procedures, practices and equipment; modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software; methods and techniques for record keeping and report preparation and writing; proper English, spelling and grammar; and occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.

Ability to work with children, a strong knowledge of sports programs and the rules or running recreational programs. • Maintain 24-hour readiness and participate in on-call rotation.
