ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for part-time Recreation Leaders II/III assigned to the Adaptive Program. The main goal of the City of Gilroy’s Recreation Division is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community members with a wide range of opportunities to celebrate life and community through people, parks, programs, and special events which are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy residents. 
 
Under direct supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Leader II/III will assist, plan, organize, and lead the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs. Program area focus is Adaptive (Special Needs), but you might be asked to support another recreation area.

 When assigned to the Adaptive Program, the leader will have an opportunity to have hands-on experience working with a special needs population.  Disabilities of participants vary in range from non-communicative to diminished motor skills to severe autism.  The position will report to an experienced staff member.  As related experience is gained as noted in the job qualifications and requirements, and with the recommendation in the employee’s performance evaluation, Recreation Leaders can advance from Recreation Leader II to Recreation Leader III.  As the employee advances through the job series the employee will take on more responsibility and more challenging work assignments.

They design, fabricate, and install electrical systems and components and install wiring and electrical equipment, ensuring code compliance. Duties may also include purchasing electrical supplies, including filling out paperwork; coordinating purchases; and, choosing vendors. They are responsible for responding to occasional emergencies, evaluating and taking required actions and determining if support is needed. Public Works electrician duties also include:

• M aintenance of pump stations (includes motor controls and PLC's and computerized alarm and monitoring of pumps, etc. ) ;

Hours of Work: Public Safety Dispatchers typically work 12 hours shifts, with 4 work days one week and 3 work days the following week.  Shifts available area a day and night shift, or variation, that can rotate every six months.  Dispatchers may have to work weekends, holidays and overtime. 

Special Conditions: Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, on schedules that may include Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and non-traditional work hours; and a willingness to work overtime as required.

Other Requirements: Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment.  All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and may include polygraph and/or psychological testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:

• Graduation from an accredited high school (GED may be substituted for a high school diploma); plus
• One year of successful full-time responsible experience performing work where the essential functions of the job involved public contact, computer usage or heavy telephone traffic.

Attends and participates in professional group meetings and committees; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of project management and market research. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a field directly related to the area to which assigned. For the Market Research Project Manager position the following are applicable fields of study: business administration, sociology, statistics, market research, communications, public administration, marketing, or a related field. Additional experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Experience: Six (6) years of experience in the professional field required by the assigned special projects. The Market Research Project Manager position requires experience in developing and implementing market research, marketing, public information, or communications programs with an emphasis on data collection, market analysis, and detailing the customer journey or two (2) years that involved responsibilities at a level equivalent to the District's classification of Project Manager I. Years of experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a two for one basis; two (2) years of experience may be submitted for one (1) year of education).

The Position

The City of Hayward is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer - Water and Wastewater [Formal Title: Senior Utilities Engineer] with a water and/or wastewater background to supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the activities of the Utilities Division. The Senior Civil Engineer - Water and Wastewater  is a mid-management level position that performs, oversees, and directs engineering activities including planning, conceptual design, final design, cost estimating, project bidding, services during construction and construction management for a variety of projects in wastewater treatment, water storage and distribution, sewer collection, and storm water management. This position will serve as a key member of the team that will manage and deliver a $300 million treatment system upgrade for the City's Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF) to incorporate nutrient removal into the treatment process.

The ideal candidate will be a senior level professional engineer with experience, interest and skills in designing and implementing a wide variety of wastewater treatment, sewer collections, and water distribution projects in a collaborative and team-focused setting. The City's $300+ million upgrades to its Water Resources Recovery Facility offers an opportunity to implement state-of-the art advanced treatment technologies working in a team environment through design, construction, and startup and commissioning of the new facilities. 
 
DEFINITION
Under general direction, supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the assigned functions and activities of the Engineering Section of the Utilities Division.
 
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a mid-management level position that performs, oversees, and directs all assigned activities of the Utilities engineering section, including planning, conceptual design, final design, cost estimating, project bidding process, services during construction and construction management for variety of projects in water distribution, sewer collection, stormwater management, and wastewater treatment.  This position is distinguished from that of subordinate Associate Civil Engineer position by its responsibility for the supervision of assigned engineering and technical staff, in addition to engineering and technical responsibilities for project development, design, and construction management for more complex projects.  This position is distinguished from Deputy Director of Public Works for Utilities by the latter position's overall responsibility for all aspects of the Utilities Division functions.
 
 

Essential Duties

What you will do:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

1. Assists in the development and implementation of the Engineering Section's goals, objectives, policies and priorities.
 
2. Plans, organizes, controls and evaluates the assigned functions and activities of the Engineering Section of the Utilities Division.
 
3. Provides direct and close supervision in the preparation of assigned master plans and studies that outline future water, wastewater and drainage requirements.
 
4. Prepares drawings, models, and displays for special studies and reports completed by the Utilities Division, and explores and studies the preparation of area wide master plans guiding future installations of major water and sewer facilities.
 
5. Directs the work and provides general supervision in the preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates and the administration of contracts for small construction projects in utilities (e.g., small water main, sewer main and storm drainage projects).

6. Revises and updates standard specifications and details related to water and wastewater utilities.
 
7. Checks plans prepared by other agencies for conflict with the City's existing and proposed utilities systems.
 
8. Consults with and advises other City employees on utilities engineering matters.
 
9. Participates in the selection and supervision of private professional engineers for the development of plans and specifications, studies and reports.
 
10. Coordinates utilities engineering related activities with Engineering & Transportation Division, other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies.
 
11. Prepares reports and makes recommendations on the Utilities Division's portion of the City's capital improvement program.
 
12. Develops and recommends an annual budget and priority for assigned utilities projects.
 
13. Consults with contractors, builders, and engineers on problems relating to the design, construction, and maintenance of assigned utilities facilities.
 
14. Coordinates construction management of the Utilities Division's projects with the Engineering and Transportation Division staff.
 
15. Consults with and advises the Deputy Director on issues relating to the Utilities Engineer's particular function.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a field directly related to the area to which assigned.

Experience: Eight (8) years of experience in the professional field required by the assigned special projects. The Police Officer - Lateral position is a sworn position in the Police Department. Enforces Federal, State and Municipal laws and ordinances; performs patrol duties in cars, on motorcycles or bicycles, and on foot as required; enforces State and local traffic laws to regulate traffic, and investigates accidents; answers calls for service and the protection of life and property; makes arrests as required and testifies in court; performs crime prevention duties and community relations activities; interfaces with all City departments to insure the utmost service to the citizens of Campbell; prepares reports; services and maintains departmental equipment; may relieve or assist Records or Communications personnel.

Typical Duties: 

• Enforces Federal, State and Municipal laws and ordinances;
• Performs patrol duties in cars, on motorcycles or bicycles, and on foot as required;
• Enforces State and local traffic laws to regulate traffic, and investigates accidents;
• Answers calls for service and the protection of life and property;
• Makes arrests as required and testifies in court;
• Performs crime prevention duties and community relations activities;
• Interfaces with all City departments to insure the utmost service to the citizens of Campbell;
• Prepares reports;
• Services and maintains departmental equipment; and
• May relieve or assist Records or Communications personnel.

Ability to: 

• Learn laws of arrest and pertinent local, State and Federal laws and reasonably interpret the technical concepts of law;
• Use and care for firearms;
• Remember names, faces, numbers, incidents, and places, and judge situations and persons accurately;
• Work on own initiative without exacting supervision;
• Operate special equipment such as motorcycles and bicycles;
• Communicate utilizing standard police radio broadcasting procedures;
• Follow oral and written instructions;
• Prepare complete and accurate reports;
• Establish and maintain effective public relations, and
• Work cooperatively with others.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: 

• Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university. (college units must be completed at time of application)
• Completion of a POST approved basic academy. 

Possession of: 

• Valid California Driver's License
• POST Academy Graduation Certificate
• First Aid Card & CPR Certificate 

Additional Requirements:

• Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for, and who has applied for, citizenship at least one year prior to application for employment. Application for citizenship shall not have been denied.
• Pre-employment: ability to pass drug and alcohol test; candidates must not have been convicted by any state or by the federal government of a crime, the punishment for which could have been imprisonment in a federal penitentiary or a state prison.
• Physical capacity to meet standards established by the City of Campbell
• Weight in proportion to height.
• 20/20 corrected vision in both eyes.  20/30 uncorrected vision (both eyes) for those wearing glasses or hard contact lenses.  Uncorrected vision requirements may be waived for persons wearing soft contact lenses upon verification of vision stability.
• If military veteran, discharges other than honorable will be evaluated on an individual basis.
• Satisfactory results on appropriate written, medical, background and psychiatric examinations.

Probationary Period: Upon date of hire and 18 months following the date of swearing in as a Police Officer

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND POLYGRAPH TEST
An intensive background investigation will be conducted on each final candidate in accordance with the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission Peace Officer Background Investigations Guidelines. Candidates will also be required to successfully pass a polygraph test administered by a licensed polygrapher, a psychological exam given by a City-selected psychologist and a medical exam by a City physician (to include a stress test EKG and general physical examination). The results of the psychological exam are valid for one year. Suitability for employment will also be based on the following POST job dimensions: problem-solving ability, learning ability, observation skills, willingness to confront problems, interest in people, interpersonal sensitivity, desire for self-improvement, dependability, integrity, credibility as a witness in a court of law, communication skills, judgment under pressure and physical ability.
