Way, Power & Signal Maintenance is responsible for timely and reliable maintenance, preventive maintenance, inspections, repair and servicing of the light rail right-of-way, rail system power, tracks, signals, station facilities and related equipment. • Inspects, adjusts and/or repairs voltage in the line, battery systems, circuit breakers, relays, and connections;

Typical Tasks

• Inspects, maintains, and repairs rail signaling and safety systems, including approach circuitry, transponders, switch controls, relays, preemptor controls and crossing gates; designs, constructs, and installs temporary interlocks and turnbacks;
• Monitors, maintains, modifies, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and supports the light rail SCADA system hardware, software and LAN network devices; creates displays and alarms; uses diagnostic tools to identify and resolve network problems;
• Inspects, maintains, repairs, and administers Ticket Vending Machine master controllers, LAN, and network devices;
• Inspects, maintains, and repairs communication systems, including telephone equipment and switches, visual message boards, paging and speaker systems, and other related equipment;
• Maintains electrical equipment and systems, including mobility-impaired lifts, station lighting and electrical systems, and backup generator systems;
• Drives trucks and other vehicles; Uses and maintains tools and equipment in good working condition;
• Prepares and maintains reports and records of work performed;
• Reviews construction plans and specifications, and performs electrical inspections of new construction projects;
• Performs routine electrical construction duties using hand and power tools;
• Performs limited maintenance on light rail station elevators and escalators;
• May provide lead work direction and training to other employees.

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards
Development of the required knowledge, skills and abilities is typically obtained through completion of a two year program at a recognized academic, trade or vocational school or completion of an apprenticeship in the trade; and three years of journey-level experience in the inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of electrical, electronic and communications systems.

Position Duties:

Salary Range

The Assistant Director salary range is currently $178, 713.34 - $288, 700.62. Placement within this range will be dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the individual selected. This salary includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. The salary is supplemented by an attractive benefits package. 

The Position

Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the Environmental Services Department (ESD), overseeing a budget of approximately $550 million and seven direct reports. This executive leader provides strategic and operational direction across a broad and complex portfolio, including Integrated Waste Management, Watershed Protection, Water Resources, Wastewater Management,  Regulatory Affairs and Purified Water, Utility Financial and Business Operations, and Communications. In partnership with Deputy Directors, department leaders, and citywide stakeholders, the Assistant Director drives alignment with City priorities while ensuring regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and organizational effectiveness. Key responsibilities include leading utility rate setting, guiding long-range capital and infrastructure planning, and supporting major initiatives such as homelessness response and environmental restoration. Work Environment:  This position is part of the Administrative Services organization at Midpen’s office in Los Altos, California and reports to the Procurement Program Manager. Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work schedule for this position, which includes a 9/80 schedule.

Education and Experience:  any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be equivalent to the completion of twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by college-level coursework in accounting or finance and five (5) years of experience in the maintenance of financial and accounting records, budgeting, grants support, procurement support, or financial support experience.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Library and Recreation Department is comprised of two divisions, Library and Recreation & Childcare, that are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of San Rafael residents. The Department’s mission is to enrich the community through discovery, learning, and play, and strives to maximize the delivery of strategically aligned programs and services to provide the highest value for the community.

The Library Division operates with a $4.4 million budget and 22 full-time employees in fiscal year 2024/2025. The San Rafael Public Library consists of three branches—Downtown, Pickleweed, and Northgate—and is part of the MARINet consortium. Exciting projects include a $3 million modernization of the Downtown branch, set for completion by July 2025, and a $2 million renovation of the Pickleweed branch, with construction beginning in August 2025. Additionally, the City is planning a new, joint Library and Community Center at Albert Park, while also focusing on operational improvements and championing innovative library programs and services.

THE POSITION

The Senior Library Assistant performs the most complex paraprofessional library work; assists patrons; implements programs, outreach, and marketing; supervises volunteer or part-time staff within a designated service area; and provides lead direction to other Library Assistants.

• Perform advanced work related to the circulation of materials both physically and in the Integrated Library System.  
• Provide a range of services to patrons, including complex account and circulation requests; mid-level reference and readers' advisory; and advanced assistance with accessing library materials, technology, and resources.

The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting for a Principal Water Pollution Control Plan Operator.  This position, reporting to the Water Pollution Control Operations Manager, undertakes supervisory responsibilities at the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant (SWPCP). Their duties include providing instruction, troubleshooting, and maintenance related to plant operations, supervising training programs, ensuring efficient operation and maintenance of equipment, and coordinating with various stakeholders.

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

• Graduation from high school or tested equivalent, and
• Five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant with at least 3 years at the shift supervisor level as defined by the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).  The Senior WPC Operator position at the SWPCP is considered equivalent to the SWRCB Shift Supervisor definition.
• Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certificate issued by the California State Water Quality Control Board
• Class C California driver's license and a safe driving record
