Position Summary

Under general direction of the Secretary of the District, performs complex and highly analytical work for the Secretary of the District, members of the Board of Directors and associated committees.   Departmental lead on government tort claims, legal documents and communications and participating in complex, sensitive, and detailed analytical work in the areas of budgets, historical preservation and economic, regulatory and administrative policy. Provides internal customer service by assisting managers and executive level staff in complex analysis.  This position requires a high degree of accuracy, discretion, confidentiality, excellent communication skills, and robust customer service skills. 
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Serves as the primary analytical support to the District Secretary;
• Interprets meeting proceedings and prepares draft meeting minutes, with minimal oversight and as assigned, may attend meetings in the absence of the District Secretary;
• Performs legal functions of the office and guidance to office staff in the absence of the District Secretary;
• Performs a wide variety of complex legal analysis, research and briefings about claims for the District, Bridge, Bus and Ferry Divisions, and works with legal counsel in the areas such as government tort claims, subpoenas, Brady requests, small claims and lawsuits;
• Provides a wide variety of complex, confidential analytical duties in support of the District Secretary, Board of Directors, and standing Board committees;
• Independently composes, researches, compiles, summarizes, and prepares a variety of complex correspondence, reports and documents; reviews finished materials for completeness and accuracy; ensures documents comply with District standards, policies and procedures;
• Perform special studies for the District, and coordinates assigned activities with other District departments, and divisions, and outside entities;
• Independently responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints;
• Coordinates and assists in the development of the annual budgets of the Board and District Secretary’s Office and monitors, reviews and approves department expenditures, and performs financial analysis for budgetary purposes;
• Assists the District Secretary with providing direct support in varied, analytical administrative projects related to the Board and its committees;
• Independently prepares and presents a variety of oral and written reports, correspondence, and statistical analyses with extreme attention to detail and accuracy;
• Works with Procurement to select vendors and purchase department services as needed for projects, and participates on panels for various District procurements especially those related to the District’s third party administrators for public liability and workers compensation, insurance advisors and e-document conversion;
• Has an in-depth understanding of the department’s functions and especially its role with the Board of Directors such as the steps involved in planning and executing Board events and maintaining key Board documents such as Rules of the Board, Master Ordinance and record of the Board’s proceedings;
• Autonomously draft client correspondence and legal documents, using proper format and appropriate language and content;
• Oversees newspaper advertisements for public hearings/meetings;
• Monitors activities and ensures maintenance of files related to insurance and accident claim matters to fulfill department records retention schedule;
• Engages with a wide variety of District representatives including the Board of Directors, Executive Team, mid-managers and staff in a wide variety of roles including those engaged in specialized trades;
• Performs additional related duties as assigned; and
• Regular and reliable performance and attendance is required.

The City of Auburn is hiring for the seasonal, part-time Bus Driver I position in the Auburn Transit Department.

Auburn Transit is looking for qualified individuals to join our transit team. These positions are seasonal, part-time and each has a maximum of 999 hours of work per fiscal year. The incumbent's schedule will be flexible, based on the needs of the department, community transit needs and employee availability.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

This position operates a variety of transit and General Public Paratransit (GPPV) vehicles to transport passengers in a safe, courteous and reliable manner. The incumbent will learn all transit laws, operating procedures and policies.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Bus Driver I is an entry-level classification responsible for routine tasks and operation of specific transit vehicles. It is essential incumbents learn all transit laws, operating procedures and policies. The role is performed under direct supervision from the Transportation Supervisor or designee and does not involve supervision over other staff.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Actual work may vary based on department needs or change due to evolving business practices.

• Operates a bus or other General Public Paratransit (GPPV) vehicles on City streets and highways in all weather conditions to transport passengers on established routes with designated stops, on-demand rideshare services, field trips and special events.
• Ensures passenger safety by observing passenger behavior, verifying safety belts are secured and rendering aid to passengers in an emergency.
• Assists passengers boarding and deboarding as needed or requested, including senior citizens, individuals with disabilities and care-dependent persons.
• Operates a smart device and two-radio to respond to transit dispatch and on-demand rideshare requests requiring adjustments to existing schedules and routes.
• Operates automatic wheelchair lifts, collects fares, issues passes, secures wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
• Promptly notifies management and completes reports regarding accidents and incidents involving vehicles and passengers.
• Conducts mandatory daily pre-trip vehicle inspections adhering to state and city regulations before each route, including reporting inspection results, daily trip logs, and required vehicle repairs and maintenance.
• Performs minor maintenance, repair and cleaning of transit vehicles and fleet storage facility.
• Adheres to all public transit federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
• Maintains a valid California driver’s license and passenger certifications required by the state vehicle code, Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Transportation and other applicable standards.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Description

The Town of Colma Recreation Services Department is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders for Summer 2025.  The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors. Program elements include fitness, enrichment, cultural events, special events, sporting events, trips, and community events. What You’ll Do

This is position will perform professional engineering work in the design, investigation, and construction of public works and related projects; to act as project manager in assigned capital projects; and to do related work as required.

Assistant Engineer - This is the journey level class in the professional engineering series not requiring registration. Positions in this class are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Junior Engineer. Incumbents of this class perform the moderately difficult professional engineering work. Assistant Engineers are normally considered to be on a continuing training status and as assigned responsibilities and breadth of knowledge increase with experience and registration is received, may reasonably expect their positions to be reassigned to the next higher class of Associate Engineer. The Assistant Engineer position receives general supervision from higher level professional engineers and may exercise technical or functional supervision over technical engineering staff.

Associate Engineer - This is the journey level class within the professional engineering series and highly encourages professional engineering license registration. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Assistant Engineer by the greater complexity of the assignments received and by the greater independence with which an incumbent is expected to operate. Incumbents are expected to complete complex engineering assignments requiring the use of judgment and initiative in developing solutions to problems, interpreting general policies, and determining work assignments. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in the class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Assistant Engineer, or when filled from the outside, require prior advanced technical or professional engineering work experience. This position receives direction from higher level engineering staff. It may exercise technical supervision over lower-level staff within the work unit and exercises technical or functional supervision over technical engineering staff.

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Design and prepare plans and specifications and cost estimates for public works projects including pumping stations, streets, storm drains, sewer lines, and related projects. 
• Research project design requirements: perform complex calculations and prepare estimates of time and material costs. 
• Design and prepare plans and specifications for the installation of traffic signals, traffic control devices, and street lighting systems. 
• Review field projects being studied, designed, or constructed. 
• Assign routine investigation, design and drafting tasks to technical subordinates, requests survey, mapping and data collection; review completed work; assist in the solution of difficult problems. 
• Research publications and industry information sources to remain current with modern developments, principles, and procedures. 
• Develop revised design and construction standards for public works structures and appurtenances. 
• Investigate field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations. Prepare estimates and feasibility reports for new or modified services and structures. 
• Design and maintain spreadsheets and databases on mainframe and personal computers; write and maintain special programs on personal computers. 
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with workflow processes. 
• Participate in the planning, checking, review, and processing of plans for private developments affecting city streets, sewers, drains and related public works facilities and ensure that they meet all City-imposed requirements; analyze materials and design data submitted to the City. 
• Prepare special engineering studies and reports. 
• Prepare various applications for state and federal grants. 
• Administer and enforce City Codes and standards on engineering projects. 
• Determine conformance of parcel and subdivision maps and improvement plans to City requirements; maintain status of parcel and subdivision maps. 
• Serve as staff to a variety of City commissions, boards, and committees on public works or traffic engineering matters. 
• Coordinate public works activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies. 
• May supervise and train professional and technical staff. 
• Provide staff assistance to the Department Head or Division Manager, including special projects, complex project management, reports, prepare staff reports, and represent the City at City Council meetings. 
• Maintain current knowledge of new trends and innovations in the professional fields, participate in professional groups. 
• Research, negotiate, manage select and monitor contracts with vendors. 
• Advise the public or other city staff in processing transactions in the area his/her professional expertise or maneuvering city policies or responds to inquiries and requests by public, departments, press, or other department staff. 
• Develop and/or deliver high level materials, trainings, or presentations widely disseminated to the City or the public.

The City of Lincoln is accepting applications for the position of Refuse Truck Driver II in the Solid Waste division of the Public Works department. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Refuse Truck Driver II

This is a journey level class and is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I classification by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. This class is distinguished from the Senior Refuse Truck Diver in that the latter provides technical and functional supervision over assigned staff or division programs and responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Refuse Truck Driver II

Receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May receive technical and functional supervision from a Senior Refuse Truck Driver.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Drives and operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including one or two-person-staffed refuse collection truck, front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; responds to afterhours call-outs if assigned.
• Maintains assigned truck by regular cleaning and washing, including inspecting for mechanical or other operating problems; reports mechanical or related problems for maintenance; may perform minor maintenance as appropriate.
• Operates hydraulic/mechanical controls to load, compress, and dump refuse; collects and disposes of debris on assigned route; transports refuse to/unload at appropriate landfill sites and/or sewage treatment plant.
• Assists with battery sorting, electronic waste collection, bin repair or delivery, cardboard removal, illegal dumping cleanup, and any other related solid waste program or assignment.
• Completes and posts notification tags on containers, bins and dumpsters for unacceptable contents for refuse collection.
• Prepares, maintains and submits records, reports and forms including time records, equipment and maintenance records, and route maps and logs.
• Responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff and the public.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

The following are a representative sample of the KSA’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge of:  Methods, practices and techniques of solid waste and refuse collection and disposal; practices, techniques and materials used in the collection and disposal of solid waste refuse; knowledge of the City street system; applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations; operating characteristics and safety requirements for operation of trucks, refuse vehicles and other heavy and light equipment; defensive driving; proper lifting procedures; Principles and practices of lead supervision, training, and performance evaluation, including safety practices and related record-keeping; methods and techniques for record keeping; basic principles of mathematics; occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.

Skill to:  Safe, effective, defensive and attentive driving, along with experience using a variety of solid waste and refuse collection vehicles, equipment, tools and materials. 

Ability to:  Perform solid waste refuse collection and disposal; drive and operate solid waste and refuse collection trucks; respond to issues and concerns from the community; interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, codes and regulations; operate a variety of solid waste and refuse collection equipment, vehicles and tools; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time; work at substantial heights; respond to afterhours call-outs if assigned; organize, prioritize and follow-up on work assignments; work independently and as part of a team; make sound decisions within established guidelines; analyze a complex issue, and develop and implement an appropriate response; develop and coordinate collection route schedules, including identification of non-routine special routes/equipment needs related to special events/projects; inspect trucks for maintenance/replacement recommendations; act as a lead worker and perform advanced journey level solid waste refuse collection work related to area of assignment; follow written and oral directions; observe safety principles and work in a safe manner; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships.

About the Position

Position is responsible for a wide variety of recreation activities, including supervising Youth Center gym rentals and scorekeeping for adult and youth sports leagues (softball, basketball, flag football soccer, bocce ball, kickball, corn hole). Responsibilities during scorekeeping will include head on site supervisor, set up and cleanup of facility or field, maintain score and game time. Receives general supervision from a full-time Recreation Department staff member; may work under functional supervision of a Program Coordinator as assigned.

Schedule will vary depending on sports season; mornings, nights, and weekends as scheduled. Monday-Friday between hours 5:00pm-10:30pm, and weekends as scheduled.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 15 years old and have the ability to obtain a work permit, if under the age of 18. Applicants must have completed and passed the Lifeguard Training class that includes CPR, and AED by June 1, 2025. WSI (Water Safety Instructor Certification) is highly recommended.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to protect lives by using their skills to prevent injury among patrons. This duty does not only include rescuing drowning victims or administering CPR and first aid. Being alert and proactive also helps to prevent dangerous situations from ever occurring in the first place.
• Enforcing the rules fairly and consistently is a close second major duty and could even be considered to be a part of patron surveillance. Help the patrons to keep themselves safe by monitoring and putting an end to dangerous behaviors.
• Maintenance and cleaning tasks are also part of the lifeguard’s duties. These can include monitoring chemical levels in the pool, picking up trash and organizing equipment, or inspecting the facility for unsafe conditions.

Swim Instructor Job Responsibilities:

• The swim instructor is responsible for instructing swim lesson participants in a variety of swim levels.
• This position is also responsible for the safety of the participants in their own class.
• Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed and clean up supplies.
• Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons.
• Submits completed report cards, skills sheets, and attendance information on time.

The Assistant Civil Engineer is an entry-level class in the Civil Engineer series. This class is distinguished from the Associate Civil Engineer by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the Civil Engineer series. Incumbents perform less complex office and field engineering work and assignments are generally routine or closely related within a framework of established procedures. The Assistant Civil Engineer receives general supervision from higher level professional engineers and may exercise technical or functional supervision over technical engineering staff. The Assistant Civil Engineer position does not require registration as a civil engineer or professional engineer.  This position will have a focus in development review but will also participate in Capital Project delivery.

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform a variety of engineering duties in support of capital improvement projects including road construction, storm drains, sewers, traffic systems and related construction projects.
• Perform design and engineering studies for capital improvement projects, including the preparation of project plans, research project design requirements, drawing specifications, cost estimates and project schedules.
• Preparation of Request for Proposals, including scope of work for a variety of engineering projects and studies. Management of engineering consultant procurement process and oversight of engineering consultants.
• Manage advertisement and award of construction projects including the review of contract bids and proposals; management of construction contracts including participating in the review of contractor work activities; ensures contract compliance with contractual obligations, prepares and reviews change orders and manages contract close out and acceptance.
• Coordinate projects and assignments with businesses, utilities, special districts, and other City departments. Respond to complaints and assists in solving problems related to City projects and policies; provides information to property owners, contractors, engineers, consultants, and the general public on conformance to standards, plans, specifications, and costs.
• Conduct or oversee field inspections or investigation of capital projects during construction; ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations; provides resolutions to construction problems; conduct or oversee survey, mapping, and data collection.
• Performs private development plan review.
• Perform a variety of engineering complex calculations and computation; prepare project cost analyses; prepare estimates of time and materials costs.
• Investigate field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations.
• Develop revised design and construction standards for public works structures and appurtenances.
• Prepare estimates and feasibility reports for new or modified services and structures.
• Prepare special engineering studies and reports.
• Prepare applications for state and federal grants.
• Review and provide plan check comments for private development applications and building, grading, and encroachment permits in accordance with City codes, ordinances, and policies. Review of required studies and coordinates with consultants to provide peer review of special studies.
• Exercise professional engineering judgment in accordance with current accepted practice of civil engineering and appropriate laws and codes.
• Maintain a variety of public works department and engineering division program and project files and records.
