ABOUT THE POSITION

The Public Works Maintenance Worker I is the entry-level classification in the series of Public Works Maintenance Worker. It is the journey level in the class series. The current two vacancies are in the Right of Way Division.  Incumbents receive immediate supervision from higher-level staff progressing to general supervision with training and experience.

 

 

A few typical duties may include:

• Perform street maintenance duties; operate construction and maintenance equipment such as trucks, tractors, and skip loaders for a variety of construction and maintenance operations involving streets, sidewalks and gutters.
• Spread asphalt in patching and repairing streets.
• Use concrete cutting and breaking equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete, construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.

THE POSITION

The City of San Mateo is seeking a Per Diem Human Resources Technician providing a wide variety of technical human resource work in a variety of program areas including benefit administration; recruitment and selection; compensation; human resources information systems database analysis and report writing, and to do related work as required. EXAMPLE DUTIES

Position Summary

Under general supervision of the Director of Planning and Principal Planners, manages projects and performs work tasks to support the department’s work program, which includes service and operations planning, short- and long-range planning, facilities planning, and compliance reporting for all three of the District’s operating divisions.

 

This position advances the District’s business interests by analyzing complex operating conditions and recommending detailed changes, producing reports and planning studies, researching and interpreting relevant regulations, and meeting with internal staff and external stakeholders on a wide variety of topics. Work may require the use of specialized software, such as GIS and Hastus, and travel to District facilities and off-site meeting locations. May supervise and assign work to Associate Planner(s) and Planner(s) as directed.

 

Essential Responsibilities

• Research, compile, analyze, and interpret complex technical, demographic, economic, financial, and other statistical data for the development of transit plans and projects, such as the District's transit service plan, transit capital improvement program, and proposed bridge toll or transit fare changes.
• Monitor, forecast, and evaluate transit service performance and patterns of bridge traffic, parking, and transit service patronage and recommend changes where necessary.
• Prepare or supervise preparation of routine evaluations of the efficiency and effectiveness of bus and ferry routes, schedules, major transit facilities, and bus stops. Recommend specific improvements based on these evaluations.
• Prepare or oversee preparation of major compliance documents, including the Short-Range Transit Plan (SRTP), National Transit Database (NTD), Title VI, and other federal and state reports, including the organization of internal stakeholder meetings to provide input on these reports.
• Prepare official recommendations and informational reports for consideration by the public, the District’s Board of Directors, and technical staff of the District or other agencies and groups.
• Prepare or assist with verbal presentations to staff groups, public groups, and the boards of local municipalities and advise District personnel on matters related to interactions with these groups.
• Support and coordinate staff responsibilities regarding other internal and external coordination meetings as directed. May participate in public meetings and hearings.
• Act, when directed, as liaison between the District and other agencies on planning matters by reviewing outside reports, attending meetings, drafting correspondence, and providing technical information to public agencies and other transit groups.
• Develop and coordinate changes to the District’s routes and fares in the Clipper and Genfare systems.
• Provide staff support to the District’s public advisory committees, including attendance at off-site meetings and/or meetings that occur outside normal business hours.
• Formulate short- and long-range plans or recommendations on transit services; coordinate service planning, detour, and bus stop issues with local jurisdictions when needed.
• Study and research physical characteristics of areas served by Golden Gate Transit; assess conditions of roads and related features; determine the physical and operational feasibility of transit routes and bus stops.
• Assess feasibility of transit service changes and develop plans for implementation. May use Hastus scheduling software as appropriate.
• Analyze possible environmental impacts that could result from proposed service, operations, or pricing changes to the District’s transit or bridge operations.
• Obtain encroachment or other permits as necessary to address the District’s business needs.
• Perform bridge traffic or transit demand projections and studies based on available travel data, community surveys, U.S. census data, and development reports from cities served by the District.
• Conduct geographical and demographic analyses of existing and potential District customers using socioeconomic data from passenger or other market research surveys. May use geographic information system (GIS) software as appropriate.
• Develop, coordinate, and conduct bus and ferry passenger surveys; analyze data from those surveys and prepare related reports.
• Review environmental impact reports and statements and project plans within the Golden Gate Transit service area and assess potential impacts to the District’s operations.
• Support environmental reviews related to the District’s transit projects.
• Research and interpret applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to transportation, planning, or environmental permit activities.
• May supervise and assign work to Associate Planner(s) and Planner(s) as directed.
• Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

This position will serve as the primary contact for all applicants applying for housing assistance programs and the administration of rental assistance programs. • An associate degree with coursework in liberal arts, humanities, social work, business, public administration, or a related field.

Labor Relations & Equal Employment Unit (Position Code 16)

Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date. 

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite, after completion of the probationary period (one year).

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting a full-time Engineering Technician/Inspector at level I or II or III (depending on experience and qualifications) for the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. The position will support the engineering staff with technical tasks for public works improvements, public works projects, and land development projects, and will entail a mix of technician and inspection duties. The goal of the Engineering Division is to promote a better quality of life for those who live, work, and visit the city of Gilroy through the provision of efficient engineering services and the creation of orderly growth and development within the city.

 

EXAMPLES OF ONGOING PROJECTS

• Provide inspection support to various Capital Improvement Projects, to include water and wastewater projects. 
• Coordinate inspection efforts with consultants and outside agencies.

This is the supervisory-level class in the Transportation Engineering series. Incumbents are responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, reviewing, and evaluating the work of professional engineering staff as well as performing the most complex and challenging design, inspection, and computation analyses, and providing professional-level support to assigned management staff in a variety of areas of expertise. Performance of the work requires the use of considerable independence, initiative, and discretion within established guidelines.

About the Department

The Public Works Department consists of approximately 72 full time employees and is responsible for maintaining and improving the City’s streets, parks, water and stormwater systems, traffic signals, fleet, and public buildings.  Public Works provides many of the basic services affecting the daily lives of everyone living, working, visiting, and commuting within the City, including:  

• 26 City-owned buildings/facilities and their grounds
• A fleet of over 250 vehicles and pieces of equipment
• 97 miles of streets
• Drinking water delivery for 16,000 customers
• Flood protection and stormwater management programs particularly along the San Francisco Bay, San Francisquito Creek and Atherton Channel
• 14 parks, 2 open spaces, 14 playgrounds, 2 dog parks, 9 sports fields, and 14 tennis/pickleball courts
• Efforts to preserve and expand the urban canopy, including 20,000 public trees
• Multimodal transportation services including 42 traffic signals, safe routes to schools and citywide shuttle programs. 

The department has nearly a $40 million operating budget supported by over 25 different special/dedicated funding sources for the varied programs and services provided to the community. In addition, the City has an approximate $100 million capital improvement program, in part due to a successful track record in pursuing grants from a variety of local, state and federal sources. Some of the exciting efforts on the horizon include efforts to protect the San Francisco Bay shoreline and adjacent community from sea level rise; efforts to eliminate the City’s reliance on fossil fuels through building and fleet electrification; making investments in transportation safety through strategic quick-build projects and large infrastructure changes like a pedestrian/bicycle undercrossing at Caltrain; and ensuring the equitable delivery of services throughout the entire city in alignment with the goals and programs developed as part of the city’s first environmental justice element underway.

San Mateo County Health- San Mateo Medical Center seeks well-qualified candidates for the position of Program Coordinator I in the Patient Access Division. The current vacancy is a full-time, limited term vacancy. The duration of the assignment will last about 6 months.

 

Under the direction of the Patient Access Manager, the Program Coordinator will provide support to over 150 Patient Services Assistants across various departments, including Emergency, Admitting, Long-Term Care, Same-Day Surgery, and will average 27 Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) sites with 8-16 hours of weekly program refresher training on several publicly sponsored coverage options.

 

Additionally, this position will assist the team with several EPIC post-go-live projects, and work queues as we work to revamp processes and enhance collaboration for improved workflows and revenue-generating process efficiencies.

This is a limited term, at-will position.  Limited Term Employees are assigned to assignments not to exceed three years. They receive medical and dental benefits, similar to regular employees, and a defined contribution retirement plan.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

• Coordinates efforts between departments, clinics, and Ancillary Services to ensure timely release of claims.
• Serves as a liaison between the Patient Financial Department and Resource Management.
• Facilitate regularly scheduled and special meetings – prepare and distribute agendas and minutes from meetings.
• Maintain program billing and compliance records related to authorizations for Inpatient and Outpatient services.
• Prepare reports as needed for Patient Financial services, Resource Management, and Department of Health Services (DHCS).
• Manage and support activity related to the authorization and denial process.
• Educate and train team members regarding authorization requirements and denial mitigation.
