The City of San Carlos Parks & Recreation Department is looking for a motivated and community-focused Recreation Coordinator to lead a variety of youth and teen programs. About the Position
As a Recreation Coordinator, you’ll be responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering engaging programs for youth and teens. This includes after-school drop-in activities, seasonal camps, the Youth Advisory Council, and year-round classes. You’ll also supervise part-time staff and volunteers, collaborate with community partners, and help promote programs through social media and outreach.
This role requires strong leadership, creativity, and the ability to work independently. The ideal candidate is organized, resourceful, and experienced in youth programming. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement youth and teen programs and events
- Supervise part-time staff, instructors, and volunteers
- Coordinate facility use, supplies, and equipment
- Promote programs through social media and community outreach
- Evaluate program effectiveness and participant satisfaction
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports
- Assist with budget planning and monitoring
- Support department-wide events and initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or a related field
- At least one year of professional experience in recreation
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms
- Valid California driver’s license
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Special Requirements
- Ability to speak clearly and understandably
- Dexterity to type and maintain records
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform light physical tasks (e.g., setup and breakdown of activities)
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours and overtime.
Licenses and Certifications
Possession of an appropriate California driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
