The Position

The San Bruno Police Department is recruiting for Per-Diem Public Safety Dispatchers. The San Bruno Police Department has a long-standing tradition of small-town service with big-city dedication to public safety. Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for public safety dispatch and related records management activities. This is a per-diem position. Shifts are offered based on staffing needs, and per-diem employees may choose the open shifts that are available. Available shifts may include day, swing, or graveyard hours, including weekends, and holidays. Public Safety Dispatchers perform a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and computers, applying various procedures and codes. Dispatchers receive and transmit emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio traffic as well as process communication reports, records, and radio logs, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality. Dispatchers may also support the Police Department by performing clerical tasks, training, assisting with fingerprinting, and being accountable for financial transactions. This position is integral in supporting the goals and objectives of the City and Police Department. 

Examples of Duties

• Receives and transmits emergency telephone and radio traffic.  
• Maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records and radio logs.
• Operates a dispatch console, uses Computer Aided Dispatch (C.A.D.) System and other computer programs to process information and records.
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality.

• Performs collateral duties including a variety of related clerical tasks: process warrants; assist in fingerprinting and jail operations, which may include searching prisoners; and is accountable for handling cash, bond, and check transactions.
   

• Maintains various C.A.D and Record Management Files.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, Class C with a good driving record.
• Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic Dispatch Certificate is required.

Supplemental Information

Part-time temporary employees serve in an at-will capacity and understand that service with the City may be terminated at any time. This position does not provide any benefits, with the exception of paid sick leave. In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, all temporary, part-time, and seasonal employees, who on or after July 1, 2015, work in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment are entitled to paid sick leave for prescribed purposes. Employees will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment. Employees may use up to 24 hours (or 3 days) of accrued sick leave in each year of employment.

The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Manager – Special Events and Cultural Arts is responsible for leading the planning, production, and oversight of the City’s signature special events, while also supporting Redwood City’s cultural arts programming. Food Service Worker I ($30.86 - $34.47 / hourly) is the entry/trainee level position. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn a full range of Food Service Worker duties. As experience is gained there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This classification is flexibly staffed with Food Service Worker II and incumbents may advance to the next level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiencies which meet the higher-level qualifications.
  
Food Service Worker II ($32.50 - $36.35 / hourly) is the journey level position. Under general supervision, incumbents independently perform a variety of responsible food service duties. Incumbents work under specified guidelines and supervisors are available in non-routine circumstances. Specific duties may vary from position to position.

• Basic kitchen cleaning and sanitation methods.

THE POSITION:

This can be a stressful and demanding job located within the Police Department requiring shift work, weekend and holiday duty.  Although hours vary, this is an on-call, as-needed position that is paid hourly.  Using RIMS (Records Information Management System), per diem dispatchers dispatch police and transfer calls to Fire & EMS under emergency conditions; receive residential alarm calls and take calls of an emergency and non-emergency nature from citizens; greets public and assists at the front counter.  Dispatchers must remain calm and tactful under trying conditions, remembering detailed information, and thinking clearly while performing several tasks at once.

To maintain familiarity with the Atherton Police Dispatch Center, we can offer guaranteed 16 hours of shifts spread over a few days per month. You'll provide break relief while also getting a chance to work with another dispatcher. Since we may not always have many shifts available, expectations would be that you would also assist with open shifts/sick calls as needed and not just rely on the 16 hours.

The City of Menlo Park is currently accepting applications to fill a Mechanic vacancy in the Fleet Services Section of the Public Works Department. A Mechanic performs diagnostic, maintenance and repair services on light and heavy city vehicles and equipment, such as automobiles, storm/sewer trucks, aerial bucket trucks, dump trucks shuttle buses, construction equipment, lawn mowers, small equipment and stationary generators; and performs other duties as assigned.

The Mechanic performs a range of skilled tasks requiring journey level or advanced journey-level class mechanical ability and aptitude. Equipment Mechanic

This is the journey-level class in the Equipment Mechanic classification series responsible for performing the full range of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, gasoline and diesel repair and maintenance required for City vehicles, and equipment. Responsibilities include inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner, and performing a wide variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of assigned vehicles and equipment. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from other maintenance class series in that it performs more highly skilled technical and mechanical maintenance activities. This class is distinguished from Senior Equipment Mechanic in that the latter leads, trains, and oversees assigned work and performs the more complex and difficult work in mechanical maintenance and repair of City vehicles and equipment.

Senior Equipment Mechanic

This is the advanced journey-level class in the equipment mechanic classification series performing the most complex duties required to ensure that City vehicles and equipment are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for City use, and providing lead direction and training to full-time and temporary staff. Incumbents regularly work on tasks that are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgment. Positions in this classification rely on experience and judgment to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the assigned section. The work involves problem-solving of unique issues or increasingly complex problems without precedent and/or structure. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver work products. The County of San Mateo is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Equity and Belonging Manager.

The Equity and Belonging Manager will work with the Chief Equity Officer in the development and management of innovative and effective strategies to advance the ORSJ’s vision and day-to-day operations. The work requires considerable initiative and judgment and the ability to make sound recommendations to the Chief Equity Officer and departmental leadership.
 
The Equity and Belonging Manager may provide direct and indirect supervision over lower level supervisory, professional, technical, and clerical employees and contractors.
 
The Equity and Belonging Manager will optimize and support the functions of the ORSJ, which include but are not limited to the following:

• Collaborate with the County’s Chief Equity Officer and other equity-focused staff to normalize and institutionalize the implementation of an equity lens to improve relationships, decision-making, structures, and systems of County operation and delivery of services.
• Consult with and advise management, multi-disciplinary staff, community organizations, providers, external agencies, and other stakeholders on complex matters concerning efforts to advance just and fair governance and improving life outcomes for all populations.
• Sustain and improve the operations of an interdepartmental Core Equity Team and its committees to advance their annual action plans.
• Facilitate community and agency partnerships and learning opportunities across government and community leaders.
• Design, implement, promote, deliver, and evaluate programs and tools designed to advance equity, including staff development, community engagement and partnership, organizational assessments, policy and systems changes, public information, and individual and group trainings.
• Manage the County’s Targeted Strategies: Improving Outcomes for All action plans.
• Shepherd the implementation of the County’s Anchor Institution framework to ensure the success of inclusive procurement, investment, and staffing efforts.  
• Conduct public solicitation processes and develop and monitor contracts.
• Participate in the development and implementation of County goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities.
• Prepare and manage a variety of reports, correspondence, and other written materials, and present reports and studies as necessary. 
• Provide guidance and training to support internal and external partners in the development and delivery of equity programs, policies, and tools, and develop related work plans and training materials as needed.
• Participate in designing and implementing performance measurement plans that help determine the effectiveness of the goals and strategies. 
• Monitor changes in laws, regulations, and technology that may affect County or departmental operations; implement policy and procedural changes as required.
• Select, supervise, train, and evaluate professional, technical, and clerical employees and contractors.
• Perform related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public policy, sociology, education, ethnic studies, public relations, social work, public health, public administration, or a related field, includes trainings and education specific to issues related to racial and social equity. 
• Experience: Five years of experience in the administration of community, public policy, educational, or social and racial justice programs, including at least three years in a supervisory level AND life experience related to interacting with inequitable systems that can provide an integral perspective to the position.

Demonstrated track record of success engaging with underserved and marginalized communities, and experience in making transformational changes to advance equity is required.

 
Knowledge of:

• Theories, principles, and practices of effective management and strategic planning processes and techniques.
• Social, political, economic, and environmental issues influencing issues related to equity.
• Strategies to advance equity in a governmental setting.
• Frameworks promoted by the Government Alliance on Race and Equity
• History of racial inequities and current institutional and systemic factors that maintain, reinforce and/or create inequities. 
• Cultural competencies, cultural humility, and intercultural communication to facilitate dialogue and partnership with diverse groups of community members.
• Principles and practices of effective institutional change management. 
• Group facilitation and effective communication techniques to thoughtfully engage in empathetic, authentic, and difficult conversations about race, patriarchy, LGBTQ+ and disability issues, and other structures of power and privilege to advance organizational change. 
• Administrative principles and practices, including goal setting, program development, implementation, and evaluation.
• Policy analysis and methods of developing and advocating for public policies specific to equity issues. Familiarity with Targeted Universalism framework
• Public sector solicitation processes and methods
• Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulatory codes, ordinances, and procedures relevant to social and racial equity.
• Record keeping principles and procedures.
• English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
• Strong communication skills, including public speaking, presenting, and writing for diverse audiences.
• Interpersonal and group communication techniques for effectively representing the County in contact with governmental agencies, community groups, and various business, professional, educational, regulatory, and legislative organizations.
• Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and County staff.

Ability to:

• Plan, organize, implement, and manage multiple equity-focused programming simultaneously.
• Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.

• Conduct community impact analysis; utilize evidence and data to identify trends and relationships; present this data visually and recommend improvements to life outcomes for marginalized populations.
• Effectively and positively partner with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish shared projects and goals.
• Represent the County effectively on equity issues in a variety of forums.
• Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive correspondence, reports, studies, and other written materials for diverse audiences.
• Speak clearly, explicitly, authentically, and convincingly to diverse audiences and communicate effective in writing and orally.
• Listen thoughtfully, constructively, and authentically to diverse audiences.
• Exercise sound, expert independent judgment, and political acumen within general policy guidelines.

• Supervise, coach, support, and manage staff as needed to maximize staff potential and advance overall equity goals. 
• Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and specialized software applications programs.
