About the Position: 

Midpen has two vacancies for the position of Area Manager in the following geographical areas. The start date for these positions is October 2025. Positions may include District Housing for rent.

Foothills Area Manager (reporting locations):

The Land Stewardship & Trails Department is Midpen’s largest, with over 70 employees during construction season. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members who may be geographically dispersed. The Area Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administrative operations of their assigned field office and has supervisory responsibility over one administrative assistant and supervisory level staff.  Each geographical area consists of up to 18 full-time staff members as well as seasonal staff. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished professional with a highly collaborative management style, strong emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills. Key responsibilities include:

• Assumes management responsibility for all maintenance and operations functions and activities of the field office, including maintenance of preserves, public access, facilities, vehicles, and resource management.
• Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the Department; participants in long term and short-term project planning; recommends within departmental policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; recommends and administers policies and procedures.
• Participates in the development and administration of and oversees Area budgets.
• Serves as a liaison for assigned Area to other District departments, outside agencies, neighborhood groups, and concerned citizens.
• Coordinates with fire agencies on fire risk prevention activities.
• Provides highly complex staff assistance to the Land Stewardship & Trails Manager; develops and reviews staff reports related to assigned activities and services; may present information to the Board of Directors and various commissions, committees, and boards; provides staff support to commissions, committees, and task forces, as necessary.

Work Environment: This position reports to the Land Stewardship & Trails Manager and will be assigned to a field office. The Area Manager works in an office setting primarily, and will attend various meetings and visit District field sites, which may require hiking through steep terrain and wildland areas and driving in remote areas on dirt roads.  Employee may be exposed to blood and body fluids when rendering First Aid and CPR. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 100 pounds, or heavier weights, with the use of proper equipment. Current work schedule is on site Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., recurring 9/80 Monday day off.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, with major coursework in park administration, resource management, natural sciences, or a related field.

Experience: Five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in the protection, operation, or maintenance of parks, open space, forests, or public recreation areas and/or related facilities including two (2) years of supervisory or administrative responsibility.

Licenses & Certifications Required:    

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License;
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid First Responder or equivalent certificate
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, the level of certification in the Incident Command System Courses as specified under the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a District approved Fire Suppression Training certification.

Work Environment: This full-time position is part of the Land Stewardship & Trails Department at Midpen’s Administrative Office in Los Altos, California. Some fieldwork may be required, which involves the ability to walk for short distances over rough terrain, drive vehicles over unimproved roads, and stand for extended periods.

Do you have a passion for protecting and preserving open space?  Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District is seeking a skilled and motivated Wildlife Ecologist III to join our team of resource management professionals working to protect and restore the natural environment within Midpen’s land in the Santa Cruz Mountains and the San Francisco Peninsula.  While there is regular field work, the ideal candidate will also bring strong communication, project management, and collaboration skills to the position.

The incumbent will be a part of a cohesive team of 15 in the Natural Resources Department, which is comprised of three Programs: Wildlife, Vegetation, and Earth Sciences. The Wildlife Program has five full-time program staff, including this position, and a seasonal intern. The Wildlife Program covers a broad range of topics including but not limited to: permit administration, wildlife conflict management, special status species monitoring and research. About the Position: The Wildlife Ecologist III will co-lead Midpen’s natural resource permitting program for capital and routine maintenance with their counterpart in the Earth Sciences Program.  This position is responsible for negotiating, administering and overseeing compliance with regulatory permits; reviewing documents and other work products prepared by consultants or District staff as needed to satisfy permit application or reporting requirements; obtaining wildlife (Endangered Species Act) permits and overseeing permit compliance for capital projects and routine maintenance; generating reports for submittal to regulatory agencies; and coordinating with regulatory agency staff on permitting and compliance.  General responsibilities of this position will also include managing consultants and contractors; managing wildlife habitat restoration or enhancement projects; writing detailed technical summaries and reports for District staff and the public; and conducting surveys in the field.

The Wildlife Ecologist III has broad technical experience in wildlife and habitat management, is self-directed, and works independently managing complex large-scale projects. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in: negotiating and securing permits (ideally programmatic permits) from regulatory agencies primarily California Department of Fish and Wildlife and US Fish and Wildlife Service but may include US Army Corps of Engineers or Regional Water Quality Control Board; overseeing sensitive status species monitoring, reporting and recovery efforts; land stewardship and environmental planning; data collection, analysis, and interpretation; GIS software or online platforms; preparation of clear and concise reports; developing and maintaining records for regulatory agency permits; and managing consultants and contractors. Knowledge of CEQA is desired but not required.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Possesses a broad breadth of understanding of wildlife management for wide ranging taxa from large megafauna to micro invertebrates

• Experience in negotiating and securing permits (ideally programmatic permits) from regulatory agencies primarily California Department of Fish and Wildlife and US Fish and Wildlife Service but may include US Army Corps of Engineers or Regional Water Quality Control Board.
• Experience overseeing sensitive status species monitoring, reporting and recovery efforts
• Is a creative thinker, problem solver and able to juggle competing priorities
• Strong background in project management, from developing project scopes, schedules and budgets to consultant and contract oversight
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team to deliver capital projects, and public access projects, while avoiding or minimizing impacts to sensitive natural resources
• Assists staff in designing projects to reduce the need for mitigation, understands mitigation monitoring and reporting, and works creatively to secure mitigation when needed
• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with partner agencies, environmental advocacy groups, scientists and researchers, as well as other staff, boards, volunteers, vendors and the general public
• Strong public speaking skills
• Report writing skills

Work Environment: The Wildlife Ecologist III functions within a team environment with other Resource Management staff. • three years increasingly responsible experience in the field of resource planning and management, including at least one year of supervisory and administrative responsibility. Requires excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• A master’s degree is desirable.

The City of San José Information Technology Department (ITD) seeks a Cybersecurity Analyst (Enterprise Supervising Technology Analyst) to support new and existing initiatives in the Cybersecurity Office. The position will focus on Risk Mitigation as well as Identity & Access Management with exposure and support on all aspects of the Cybersecurity practice, including cross-support.

The ideal candidate will be part of one of the largest, most innovative communities in the nation. Led by the City Information Security Officer (CISO), the Cybersecurity Analyst will implement and manage information and system security programs across the City that keep municipal services secure and resilient. The Cybersecurity Analysts will support the CISO and the City by administering risk identification, protection and compliance, threat detection, incident response, and recovery services for all City departments to achieve business resilience.

The City of San José requires Cybersecurity Analysts to be highly skilled and adapt quickly to deal with emerging challenges. The candidate must be able to apply expertise in all aspects of security, interface with vendors, keep their skills current, manage security projects, and provide security services to City departments with strong outcomes.

• Working with relevant teams to ensure the restoration of systems and technologies in accordance with policy and based on business group needs.
• Interfacing with the Virtual Security Operations Center (V-SOC) and using deployed tools and services to ensure system and network monitoring is taking place in accordance with defined service levels, contracts, and established standards.
• This role requires flexibility and adaptability to meet the Security needs of the ITD. The individual must be able to support other areas of expertise within the security domain, such as but not limited to NIST Cybersecurity Framework implementation, Identity Access Management, Risk Management & Compliance, Risk Assessments, Training, Audit Support, and others.

Please note that the Cybersecurity Analyst (Enterprise Supervising Technology Analyst) position is currently eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. The schedule for working remotely and onsite is subject to change.

Salary Information: The final candidate's qualifications and experience shall determine the actual salary. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Enterprise Supervising Technology Analyst (ESTA) classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

• Salary Range (including the 5% NPWI): $141,697.92 - $172,645.20

The ESTA classification is represented by the City Association of Management Personnel (CAMP) bargaining unit.

The Department has focus areas that include Engineering Services and Operations and Maintenance. The Traffic Engineering Division provides traffic engineering (technical support for the design and construction of both City and private development projects), traffic impact analysis reviews for private development projects and transportation projects, bicycle and pedestrian improvement planning, grant administration, and traffic signal maintenance and operation services for the City. The division receives and investigates resident/business inquiries related to street parking, traffic calming, intersection control (i.e signals, beacons, and crosswalks), and bicycling and pedestrian travel on public streets. The investigations may involve interaction with the residents, field review, traffic data collection, and evaluation of collected information with established city policies to prepare engineering recommendations for possible improvements. The division also focuses on multi-modal planning and implementation specifically related to the goals and projects included with the City’s Bicycle Plan,  Pedestrian Masterplan, and the City’s Complete Streets policy. Finally, this division coordinates with other agencies such as the Valley Transportation Authority, County of Santa Clara Roads and Airports, Caltrans,
 and the cities of San Jose, Cupertino, and Sunnyvale related to projects, programs, and grant opportunities. Experience in customer service, traffic design and construction, transportation planning, and project management and delivery is essential to success in this position.

Under direct supervision, the Associate Engineer (Civil) performs field and office work, reviews and approves designs for traffic control, traffic improvement, and private development related public improvements, administers grants, provides technical assistance in the implementation of transportation plans and programs (i.e. Bicycle Master Plan, Pedestrian Master Plan, Complete Streets Policy), supports the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, and will work with the public and consultants on various projects and transportation related inquiries.[CM1]

 This classification provides clerical support for Library operations and programs by receiving and responding to patron questions, performing circulation duties, and performing duties related to the opening and closing of the Library. This classification differs from the lower-level classification of Library Specialist II in that the Library Specialist II performs the more routine duties.

Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper, books, carts and documents weighing up to 50 pounds is also required. • Learn correct telephone answering techniques, policies and procedures

• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
• The equivalent of two (2) years of paid employment experience in public safety dispatching within the past five (5) years of which at least one (1) year included solo status; or
• Five (5) years of current paid employment with a public safety agency or private emergency medical services agency, with high level Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio and/or telephone operation; or
• Successful completion of probationary period as a Public Safety Dispatcher I with the City of Santa Clara.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTION: Possession of a valid California POST Public Safety Dispatcher Basic certificate, which may be substituted for six (6) months of the solo status experience. Please upload a copy of your certificate.
