ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting to fill the limited-term position of Code Enforcement in the Community Development Department, Building Division. 

In this exciting opportunity, the Code Enforcement Officer will work under the supervision of the Supervising Code Enforcement Officer and will serve as a frontline ambassador for city standards, working directly with residents, businesses, and property owners to ensure compliance with local codes and ordinances. This role is offered on a limited-term basis and is currently budgeted through June 30, 2027.  It is possible that the position will be extended beyond this date, but that will not be known until the Spring of 2027.  This position offers a meaningful opportunity to help uphold community standards and ensure compliant neighborhoods. The Code Enforcement Officer will respond to citizen concerns and proactively identify violations such as property maintenance issues, and zoning infractions. You will educate the public on code requirements through clear and respectful communication and work collaboratively with other city departments and external agencies to resolve issues. The Code Enforcement Officer is distinguished from the Supervisor by performing work of moderate difficulty and more routine tasks and duties assigned to this position within this classification series. These tasks involve inspections and enforcement of applicable ordinances pertaining to residential and commercial properties, housing, building construction, and other related regulations. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer will issue notices, citations, and follow up on compliance efforts in a fair and consistent manner. It is also imperative that the Code Enforcement Officer maintain accurate case files and documentation for possible legal proceedings.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time Systems Administrator to join the Information Technology Division within the Finance Department. In this exciting opportunity, the Systems Administrator will work under the direction of the Information Technology Manager and will lead large scale projects, including those involving mission critical services. This position is responsible for initiating, maintaining, and overseeing all server and storage systems including Public Safety. About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff.  Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Equivalent to graduation from high school. Six months experience working in a customer service-related field.  Some experience or training in a parks settings is desirable.

Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated around regular days/hours of operations.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (either Mondays/Tuesdays off OR Thursdays/Fridays off), depending on the field office operational needs. Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits.

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

About the Position:  Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) is seeking an Information Systems & Technology (IST) Intern in the Information Systems & Technology Department. The IST Intern will be exposed to government information technology and will receive on-going support and training while working collaboratively and establishing and maintaining open communication with all District Staff. They will gain applicable experience to prepare them for an IT Technician job. This intern will also participate in new cybersecurity projects, software integration and provide hands-on helpdesk support in a hybrid work environment.

Duties and responsibilities of the IST intern may include: responding to daily IT help-desk requests; engaging in proactive problem solving and repairing of IT related equipment and systems; assisting in modifying and maintaining existing applications such as but not limited to Windows 10/11 and Office365 applications; supporting, performing research, and executing IT projects as assigned; and providing user support for software applications and technical expertise to all staff regarding the District’s computer network system. Basic Requirements:   Internships are open to applications from current students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months). The Fleet Services Specialist will often meet with Midpen staff in the district field offices.  Employees may work in the field and occasionally be exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, or road hazards. Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

About the Position:  The EMO reports to a Maintenance Supervisor or Field Resource Specialist in the Land Stewardship & Trails Department. The selected individual will be responsible for using heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, dozers, agricultural tractors, backhoes and rollers. Education & Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training in heavy equipment repair and operation and three (3) years of experience operating and transporting heavy equipment and maintaining and repairing vehicles, tools, and power equipment.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Possession of a valid California’s Driver’s License.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Class A Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements within twelve (12) months of appointment.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within six (6) months of employment.
• Depending on assignment, possession of, or ability to obtain, a District approved Fire Suppression Training certification, within twelve (12) months of assignment into the District’s fire program.   

Working Conditions:   The EMO is a full-time position within the Land Stewardship & Trails Department.  May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Following onboarding and successfully meeting job performance expectations, may be eligible for the flexible work program which includes 9/80 schedules. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits. Depending on the exposure, employee is required to wear head, hearing, eye, foot, face, hand, and full protection equipment. Employees work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances and fumes, and poison oak.

About the Position:  Midpen has two vacancies for the position of RMS I/II.  The RMS I/II performs all aspects of wildlife management for the Natural Resources Department and in support of other Department capital improvement and routine maintenance work.  The selected individual will be responsible for performing, developing, executing and managing wildlife management projects and providing biological expertise and oversight for other District projects. Work will include project management for wildlife specific projects such as species surveys, habitat mapping, development of best management practices, biological monitoring, biological awareness trainings, permitting and biological reporting in support of new construction, routine maintenance and habitat restoration projects. The RMS I/II may perform these duties directly or participate in the hiring, selection, and oversight of consultants and contractors to perform natural resources related tasks. Successful performance of work requires significant knowledge of California wildlife species, especially special status species, biological protection measures, and a basic understanding of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and state and federal agency permitting.  More experienced candidates will have progressive educational and work experience in one or more of the following (or related) disciplines:  biology, ecology, ornithology, mammalogy, ichthyology, herpetology, zoology, fisheries, wildlife management, wildlife connectivity, etc.

Responsibilities

The Resource Management Specialist I performs most of the duties required of the position but at an entry-level to support more experienced Resource Management Specialists and the Natural Resources Program as a whole. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with increasing independence. At this level, the RMS I will assist with species surveys, monitoring, data collection, data entry, reporting, submission of samples, communication with the public, and care of monitoring equipment. The RMS I will assist with hiring, selection and management of consultants and contractors; and help to prepare detailed summaries and reports. The RMS I may assist project managers by providing valuable resource information and guidance, and serve as the liaison for subject matter experts. Work is typically assigned to small scale projects or to support larger scale projects that are managed by more experienced resource management staff.

The Resource Management Specialist II performs the full range of duties required to plan, develop, and coordinate species and habitat survey and monitoring, reporting, permitting and coordination. The RMS II is typically assigned to medium and large-scale projects and may manage these projects independently or be assigned to support larger interdisciplinary interdepartmental project teams as a natural resources subject matter expert. At this level staff receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies. The RMS II will lead hiring, selection, and management of consultants and contractors independently or as part of a larger team; write detailed technical summaries and reports for District staff, the Board, and the public; prepare grant applications; and design and lead field surveys with oversight from the Senior Resource Management Specialist.

Work Environment: The RMS I/II functions within a team environment in the Natural Resources Department at Midpen’s office in Los Altos, California and reports to the Sr. Resource Management Specialist. In addition to working in the office, the RMS I/II will often work in the field and hike through steep terrain and wildland areas. Fieldwork will require driving in remote areas on dirt roads, working in temperatures ranging from cold and blustery to hot and dry, with exposure to poison oak, ticks and other wildlife, and may require working early or late hours to survey for nocturnal or crepuscular wildlife. The Position:

The Senior Inspector is a supervisory classification responsible for performing the more complex building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspections and supervising and coordinating the work of less experienced inspectors and support staff. Depending on the area of expertise, each Senior Inspector may be assigned to one or more of the following Programs or specialties: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, Permit Center, and Code Enforcement. An incumbent in this classification is expected to perform as an expert and exercises considerable independent judgment in the performance of duties. This classification is distinguished from the Inspection Manager in that the latter is a management classification responsible for planning, directing, coordinating field inspections and technology projects of the Building Inspection Division in the Planning and Inspection.

• Depending on position assignment, the required experience and certification may be required in a particular specialty such as building inspection, electrical inspection, or plumbing and mechanical inspection.
• Certified Access Specialist (CASp) certification is desirable.
• Minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience that includes supervising building inspectors.

Licenses/Certificates
The following are required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment:

• A valid California Class C driver's license.
• Certification as a Building Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, or Combination Inspector by the International Code Council (ICC) or International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), or equivalent.

• Required to file a Conflict of Interest statement upon assuming office, annually and upon leaving office, in accordance with City Manager's Directive 100.
