Position Duties

 

The City of San Jose is recruiting for a part-time School Crossing Guards in the Police Department during the normal school year.  Work involves providing for the safe conduct of elementary and junior high school children across heavily traveled streets and reporting problems requiring possible police action. Positions may involve substituting at different corners or a regular location assignment.  In general, these assignments are a split shift with approximately ten (10) hours per week.  School Crossing Guards are required to work outside regardless of weather conditions and must be able to provide a uniform as specified by the Police Department.   Work includes outside duties and exposure to weather.  Work may include the physical ability to sit, stand, walk quickly, step up/down from the curb, reach, push and/or pull, twist and or rotate, bend, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, use hands hold and use a stop sign the entire shift, use other hand to stop traffic and use a whistle at the same.

The City of Campbell's Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for Public Safety Dispatcher!

Under general supervision, to receive and transmit routine and emergency telephone, radio and computer messages; to keep a variety of police records; and to do related work as required.

Typical Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Answers all telephone calls promptly and courteously;
• Makes rapid and accurate determination of the nature of each call and the degree, severity, and location of any emergency;
• Refers non-emergency callers to the appropriate agency or other resource;
• Questions emergency callers to elicit complete and accurate information necessary for emergency response and enters information in the computer-aided dispatch system;
• Gather information using multiple audio and visual resources;
• Selects emergency response units in exact accordance with established user agency policies and procedures;
• Promptly and properly alerts response units in exact accordance with user agency policies and procedures;
• Maintains current status on all field units;
• Closely monitors any situation presenting a potential danger to the life or safety of field personnel and takes immediate action to dispatch assistance as required;
• Maintains radio contact with field units and enforces proper channel control, discipline, and courtesy;
• Maintains records and logs reflecting the outcome and details of emergency incidents;
• Participates in training and evaluation activities to establish and maintain a high level of proficiency;
• Accesses automated law enforcement systems, inputs data and information, and makes accurate entries into automated record files in accordance with applicable laws, statutes and Department of Justice requirements; and 
• Builds and maintains positive working relationships with coworkers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.

Knowledge of:

• Standard communications principles and methods for public service dispatch activities;
• Standard office procedures and methods, including filing and the operation of common office equipment;
• Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Ability to:

• Communicate clearly and concisely with persons under extreme emotional stress;

Hours of Work: Public Safety Dispatchers typically work 12 hours shifts, with 4 work days one week and 3 work days the following week.  Shifts available area a day and night shift, or variation, that can rotate every six months.  Dispatchers may have to work weekends, holidays and overtime. 

Special Conditions: Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, on schedules that may include Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and non-traditional work hours; and a willingness to work overtime as required.

Other Requirements: Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment.  All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and may include polygraph and/or psychological testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:

• Graduation from an accredited high school (GED may be substituted for a high school diploma); plus
• One year of successful full-time responsible experience performing work where the essential functions of the job involved public contact, computer usage or heavy telephone traffic.

The City of San José Information Technology Department seeks an experienced City Information Security Officer (CISO) to lead cybersecurity Citywide initiatives.
 
The CISO will direct the Cybersecurity Office as the City’s principal executive leader for information and systems security. In partnership with the Chief Information Officer (CIO), they will manage risk identification, protection and compliance, threat detection, incident response (IR), and recovery services for all City departments to ensure business resilience.
 
The City’s CISO must be able to apply expertise in security strategy, cybersecurity frameworks, managing staff and vendor services, leading incident management, and optimizing resources to achieve desired security outcomes.
 
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Lead and mentor the Cybersecurity team, offering expertise and support to foster growth and a collaborative environment. 
• Collaborate with business units and solution providers to provide optimal security measures and achieve a balance between sustaining business operations and achieving security compliance.
• Coordinate with stakeholders within the City and partners/vendors outside of the City to ensure information and systems meet the City’s standards for threat identification, protection, and risk detection.

• Resolve security-related audits in partnership with City staff.

POSITIONS

The City Manager’s Office is recruiting for two Management Analysts that will be assigned respectively to the Office of Economic Development & Sustainability and Santa Clara Stadium Authority (Stadium Authority). There will be opportunities for cross-functional projects and assignments.

Office of Economic Development & Sustainability 

The City Manager’s Office of Economic Development & Sustainability is a newly formed strategic unit to improve and enhance business growth and success and community sustainability and resilience.  The Office also oversees the City’s real estate assets and activities.

Reporting to the Director of Economic Development and Sustainability, the Management Analyst will be chiefly responsible for advancing interdepartmental sustainability initiatives citywide including the implementation of the City’s adopted Climate Action Plan (CAP). Immediate assignments will include creation of a CAP Dashboard to track and display the City’s progress toward CAP goals and outreach to stakeholders on sustainability efforts such as updating the City’s Reach Codes. The Management Analyst will also work on policy development to propose and implement best practices and coordinate with partners in the business, university, and the broader community to champion sustainability efforts. 

As a member of a cross functional team, the Management Analyst will also conduct RFPs, oversee vendor agreements, conduct technical analysis for sustainability efforts and provide support for the Office’s initiatives regarding economic development and real estate.

Stadium Authority Executive Director’s Office

The City Manager’s Office also operates as the Santa Clara Stadium Authority (Stadium Authority) Executive Director’s Office. The Stadium Authority owns Levi’s Stadium and contracts with the Forty Niners Stadium Management Company (Stadium Manager) for the management of Non-NFL Events and facility operations and maintenance. The Executive Director’s Office is responsible for the day-to-day management of Stadium Authority operations and providing oversight of the Stadium Manager’s responsibilities. 

The Stadium Authority Management Analyst will assist the Executive Director’s Office with day-to-day Stadium Authority operations and oversight efforts. This includes responding to inquiries from the public and stadium patrons, assisting with the development of the Executive Director’s Office budget for the annual Stadium Authority Operating, Debt Service, and Capital Budget, reviewing and preparing a variety of documents including agreements, Requests for Proposals, and agenda reports to the Stadium Authority Board, providing staff support for meetings, coordinating with departments on financial, legal, and/or public safety matters, supporting community outreach and engagement efforts, conducting research, tracking various assignment and project updates, and working on special projects as assigned.

The City of San José Information Technology Department (ITD) seeks a Cybersecurity Analyst (Enterprise Supervising Technology Analyst) to support new and existing initiatives in the Cybersecurity Office. The position will focus on Risk Mitigation as well as Identity & Access Management with exposure and support on all aspects of the Cybersecurity practice, including cross-support.

The ideal candidate will be part of one of the largest, most innovative communities in the nation. Led by the City Information Security Officer (CISO), the Cybersecurity Analyst will implement and manage information and system security programs across the City that keep municipal services secure and resilient. The Cybersecurity Analysts will support the CISO and the City by administering risk identification, protection and compliance, threat detection, incident response, and recovery services for all City departments to achieve business resilience.

The City of San José requires Cybersecurity Analysts to be highly skilled and adapt quickly to deal with emerging challenges. The candidate must be able to apply expertise in all aspects of security, interface with vendors, keep their skills current, manage security projects, and provide security services to City departments with strong outcomes.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Building and maintaining a robust Identity and Access Management program with the following characteristics:
  • Auditing and Reporting
  • Role-based Access Control
  • Single Sign-On
  • Federation
  • Identity Lifecycle (Workflow management)
  • Privileged Identity Management
  • Provisioning
  • Compliance
  • Policy Management
• Defining, planning, and executing security-related projects from beginning to end.
• Managing vendors to execute tasks on demand or as part of a project.
• Building and managing a strong vulnerability management program. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with vulnerability management tools and a strong technical understanding and experience assessing vulnerabilities and identifying weaknesses in multiple operating system platforms, databases, and application servers.
• Building and managing a strong IT asset management program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maintaining IT asset inventories, software, hardware, and logical inventory of systems.
• Identifying and mitigating threats utilizing existing technologies. Working with other teams to mitigate identified vulnerabilities from identification to closure. Tracking and reporting mitigation efforts. Be familiar with the Plan of Action and Milestones in tracking, remediating, socializing, and getting them to completion.
• Working with other teams preparing, detecting, eradicating, and restoring operations in the event of incidents.
• Managing Plan of Action and Milestones for existing vulnerabilities
• Working with relevant teams to ensure the restoration of systems and technologies in accordance with policy and based on business group needs.
• Interfacing with the Virtual Security Operations Center (V-SOC) and using deployed tools and services to ensure system and network monitoring is taking place in accordance with defined service levels, contracts, and established standards.
• This role requires flexibility and adaptability to meet the Security needs of the ITD. The individual must be able to support other areas of expertise within the security domain, such as but not limited to NIST Cybersecurity Framework implementation, Identity Access Management, Risk Management & Compliance, Risk Assessments, Training, Audit Support, and others.

Please note that the Cybersecurity Analyst (Enterprise Supervising Technology Analyst) position is currently eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. The schedule for working remotely and onsite is subject to change.

Salary Information: The final candidate's qualifications and experience shall determine the actual salary. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Enterprise Supervising Technology Analyst (ESTA) classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

• Salary Range (including the 5% NPWI): $141,697.92 - $172,645.20

The ESTA classification is represented by the City Association of Management Personnel (CAMP) bargaining unit.

About the Position:  The Planning Department is seeking TWO interns who are interested in learning about open space conservation and planning for ecologically sensitive recreation. Their responsibilities may include researching and compiling project information, supporting community and stakeholder engagement, assisting with environmental review and documentation, researching new programs and initiatives, conducting field surveys and data collection, and using computer-based systems such as GIS, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator for analysis of data and preparation of documents related to Midpen lands and facilities. The interns will work as a team and individually on assignments, including opportunities for field work to gain experience in data collection techniques and tools and on-the-job training in project management, planning research, analysis, and written communication.  For additional information about the position, see the Job Description on our website. The expected start date for the interns is on or after July 7, 2025. We have limited flexibility to change the start date.

Basic Requirements: Current enrollment in an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree program, or trade school in a relevant field or a recent graduate (within the last 12 months). Successful candidates will have a background in the natural sciences, park/open space management, land use/environmental planning, GIS/geography, biology, ecology, or another related field and experience with field data collection techniques. This internship requires strong organizational and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and with a team. Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, ArcGIS software, GPS equipment, Microsoft Excel, and Apple iPads is desired, and familiarity with Midpen preserves/trails as well as local flora, fauna, and natural history are a plus.   Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license is required. Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions:  This position will report to the Planning Department at the Administrative Office in Los Altos, California.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work environment for this position, which will be divided between onsite work, field visits, and limited home office work.  The selected individuals will be required to work a minimum of three days on-site per week, and assignments may vary between field and office work. Field work is conducted in rural or mountainous Midpen open space areas, which may involve working alone or with another intern in wildland areas, traversing rough difficult terrain sometimes with poison oak and dense vegetation, and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week (within regular business days/hours). Regular business is conducted Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm. Interns may work up to a total of 950 hours over a 6-to-9-month period. This is a non-benefited position.
