ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is recruiting for a graduate degree level Economic Development College Summer Intern for the summer of 2026. If you’re a mission-driven graduate student or recent Masters graduate and are ready to apply advanced economic analysis to real-world community impact, then this opportunity is for you. ABOUT THE TEAM 
The Economic Development team is a small, but might group that consists of a Director and Manager dedicated to strengthening and diversifying the local economy in Gilroy. The team focuses on business attraction, retention, expansion, and strategic partnerships that enhance the city’s economic vitality. Working closely with internal departments, community stakeholders, and regional partners, the team plays a central role in shaping initiatives that support sustainable growth. As an intern, you will work directly alongside leadership, gaining insight into how economic development strategy is crafted and executed at the municipal level.

WORK SCHEDULE 
Internships can start as early as May 26, 2026, and end as late as September 30, 2026. This paid internship is offered at 15 - 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling. The office start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm.

• Conduct economic, demographic, and market data analysis

How You Will Make an Impact:

We are looking for a dynamic individual who will be a part of the real estate department and help us develop a pipeline of over 20 projects and =1500 units of affordable housing. We are looking for creative problem-solving team players, who enjoy the challenge of a variety of projects ranging from new construction multi-family housing to the renovation and rehabilitation of existing structures to the repurposing of commercial properties and master planning for affordable housing.

Best qualified candidates, depending on level (Assistant, Staff, Senior), will have a Bachelors Degree and between at least one (1) to three (3) years of previous experience developing affordable housing using Federal and State funding sources, pro formas and financial model analysis, and reviewing and negotiating real estate development transactional documents. Strong problem-solving and effective communication skills to work with all cross-functional partners through the project.

Silicon Valley Power (SVP) currently provides over 40 percent of Santa Clara’s electricity from carbon-free renewable resources. Under direct supervision, the Assistant Electric Utility Engineer performs a variety of entry-level professional electric utility engineering field and office work in Electric system planning, electric system design, construction and/or maintenance programs.  SVP invites applications from dynamic and innovative qualified candidates for an entry level engineering position. Assistant Electric utility engineer will be part engineering team to conduct design, establish standards and implement construction projects. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements: 

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with: 
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering from a college or university that is accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET).

• • Possession of a State of California Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) Certificate and at least 1 year of experience in electrical or mechanical engineering office and/or field work, and Experience using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mathlab).

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications:
