WOODLAND JOINT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT HOST SITE

Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) is partnering with the City of Woodland to host two fellows as part of this year’s Civic Fellowship Program. The fellows will work on-site at WJUSD Business Services Office and receive day-to-day guidance and supervision from WJUSD staff while remaining part of the fellowship cohort and participating in program-wide activities.

This posting is for the Environmental Impact Analyst Fellow within the Business Services Department, specifically in the Maintenance, Operations and Facilities at WJUSD.  

Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, up to 40 hours per week.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities Department is seeking a motivated Civic Fellow to support the district’s sustainability and environmental stewardship efforts. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in sustainability practices, facilities operations, and process improvement within a public education setting.

The Civic Fellow will assist in assessing current district practices related to recycling, waste reduction, and resource conservation. This may include reviewing recycling programs, observing waste management practices at school sites, and identifying opportunities to improve sustainability efforts. Working closely with Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities staff, the Fellow will help research best practices and develop practical recommendations to improve environmental outcomes and operational efficiency.

This fellowship provides practical exposure to sustainability planning, facilities management, and public sector operations, equipping participants with valuable skills in research, data analysis, environmental practices, and process improvement while contributing to the district’s commitment to responsible resource management.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general directions from the designated WJUSD host-site employee.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is a motivated and detail-oriented individual with an interest in sustainability, environmental science, public administration, and/or facilities operations. The Civic Fellow should be comfortable conducting research, making observations, and working collaboratively with staff across multiple departments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn about sustainability practices. Interest in environmental responsibility, waste reduction, or operational efficiency is desirable. Experience with research, data collection, or spreadsheets is helpful but not required.

This position is well suited for someone who enjoys identifying practical solutions, working on real-world challenges, and contributing to efforts that improve environmental responsibility within a large organization.

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS

The goals of the position are to:

1. Assess current sustainability practices within Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities, including recycling programs, waste disposal practices, and resource conservation efforts.

2. Review existing procedures and practices related to recycling and waste reduction, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and environmental impact.

3. Research best practices from other school districts or public agencies related to sustainability, recycling programs, and waste reduction strategies.

4. Support the development of recommendations to improve recycling participation, reduce waste, and promote sustainable practices across district sites.

5. Assist in developing simple guidance materials or communication tools to help staff and students better understand sustainability practices.

6. Develop a working understanding of school district facilities operations and the role of sustainability in supporting efficient and responsible operations.

7. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying practical opportunities to strengthen sustainability practices and reduce environmental impact.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 4+ years of high school
• Local Woodland knowledge preferred
• Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders 
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Valid California driver license (if driving is an essential duty)

SALARY RANGE

$20.00 - $25.00 / hour dependent on experience.

DEFINITION

Under the direction of the Transit Manager, the Transit Analyst II is responsible for carrying out a variety of analytical and technical assignments; and working on administrative and operational activities, analysis and special projects in support of Union City’s transit programs and services.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is the experienced-level class in the Transit Division. Work given to an incumbent in this class involves various tasks including, but not limited to, scenario planning, performance-based planning, financial forecasting, regional policy research and analysis, transportation demand management, general analysis and development of transit programs and services, research of new trends in public transit and comparing how Union City provides service delivery, and participation in coordination events or meetings on behalf of Union City. Incumbents in this class perform advanced analytical work while following City and departmental policies while exercising the performance of more complex duties. The Transit Analyst II has general knowledge of the operating procedures and policies of transit and/or transportation planning. The Transit Analyst II is distinguished from the Transit Analyst I in that it is the full journey-level, professional class in the division and works more independently.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only)

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Evaluates general planning, operations, and activities of the City’s public transit programs (fixed route, paratransit, and micro transit).
• Prepare and present comprehensive and, at times confidential, technical, administrative, statistical and financial analytical reports that present and interpret data, identify alternatives, present and justify conclusions, make forecasts, and offer recommendations based on data summaries and other findings.
• Provides recommendation to division leadership based on data and information from various sources in order to effectuate program and service delivery improvements and services for analysis and decision-making purposes.
• Coordinates a variety of studies for the preparation, analysis, or evaluation of reports and grant requests.
• Prepares the development of regularly occurring required plans or programs, such as the Short-Range Transit Plan (SRTP), Title VI and Language Assistance Plan (LAP), Transit Asset Management (TAM) Plan, and Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
• Lead budget development and administration, and grant reporting for complex projects; analyzing proposed capital, operating, and maintenance of expenditures based on services to be rendered.
• Coordinates the preparation of the scope of work (RFP’s, IFB’s, etc.) and other contract management related tasks such as monitoring and closeout of service and maintenance contracts, professional services, vehicle procurements, etc.
• Work with other City departments, other transit agencies and other public agencies to provide adequate transit amenities, service levels, service coordination and transit or transportation mitigation measures.
• Use, review, and recommend web-based programs designed to provide information to the Computer Assisted Dispatch and Automatic Vehicle Location (CAD/AVL) systems used to track vehicles and provide information to the region’s 511 system, provide service planning, and can generate the required versions of the general transit feed services by the region and state.
• Researching and responding to public complaints and inquiries; participating in the design and implementation of administrative procedures.
• Provide general assistance with the Public Works Department.
• Perform related duties, responsibilities and assist in special projects as needed.

The Ideal Candidate is a detail-oriented, organized, and motivated student or recent graduate with a strong interest in data management, fleet operations, and asset management. They are eager to gain hands-on experience using fleet management software to maintain accurate vehicle asset records, reserve fund balances, and fixed and variable rate information.

This individual is proficient with computer software systems, including spreadsheets and data tracking tools, and demonstrates the ability to efficiently organize, analyze, and maintain electronic records. Experience with databases or enterprise systems, as well as the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software applications, is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, and thrives in a collaborative environment, working closely with Finance and Public Works staff. They are proactive, willing to ask questions, and committed to learning complex processes while contributing to improving data quality, record-keeping, and documentation practices.

1. Accurately update fleet asset data in the City’s fleet management system (RTA), including vehicle asset records, reserve fund balances, and fixed and variable rate.

3. Standardize and document data entry practices for fleet financial and asset information, including clear procedures for rate updates, reserve balance tracking, and vehicle record maintenance.

4. Improve data quality and reporting readiness by developing procedures to ensure fleet and financial records are complete, current, and aligned with internal reporting and budget preparation needs.

5. Provide technical support to other staff related to system use, data requests, and basic reporting from the fleet management system.

7. Contribute to continuous process improvement by identifying opportunities to improve data workflows, documentation, and coordination between Public Works and Finance.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland Public Library is seeking a motivated and creative Library Fellow to lead a hands-on, project-based program for children in our makerspace, Square One. This fellowship provides an immersive opportunity to gain practical experience in program development, youth engagement, and community collaboration within a library setting.

The Fellow will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a part-time day camp program for elementary-aged students that encourages creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning. This includes evaluating existing curriculum, identifying areas for enhancement, and developing new project-based activities that align with educational best practices and the library’s mission.

Key responsibilities include:

• Program Development: Plan engaging, age-appropriate projects and activities for the makerspace, ensuring alignment with learning goals and safety guidelines.

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work involving the trimming, removal, installation and general maintenance of trees.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Community Services Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Ideal Candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of practices and procedures identified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) as they relate to a municipal setting. The Ideal Candidate will also possess good communication, customer service and writing skills, as well as demonstrate competence working with computers and related software, e.g., maintenance management and MS Outlook. Additionally, they will have a strong work ethic, ability to climb trees, work out of an aerial truck, be available to work overtime and perform standby duty as needed. The Ideal Candidate should have knowledge in operating chain and hand saws, operating a chipper, a background in landscaping with planting trees, and experience with setting-up and tearing-down of traffic control. The Ideal Candidate also has knowledge of safety & best management practices used in operating and maintaining tree pruning equipment and trucks.

Tree Trimmer I:
This is the entry level class in the Tree Trimmer series.  Positions in this class will usually perform most of the duties required of Tree Trimmers I and II; however, as compared to the Tree Trimmer II, is not expected to function at the same skill level and will usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Tree Trimmer II:
This is the journey level class in the Tree Trimmer series.  This class differs from Tree Trimmer I in that incumbent performs more complex duties.  This incumbent Tree Trimmer II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prune trees and shrubbery to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs, and lights, and as necessary to ensure continued health of the plant.  Remove fallen trees, dead limbs, and other debris resulting from storm damage and general conditions.  Participate in the large-scale application of herbicides and pesticides.  Clean and maintain trimming equipment.  Work both independently and as a crew member in removing trees and stumps.  Plant, stake, spray and inject trees.  Operate a chipper, aerial truck, mist sprayer and miscellaneous equipment which could include routers, loaders, forklifts, and dump trucks.  Use a variety of hand tools including hand saws, pole saws, chain saws, and pole loppers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
May perform street drainage maintenance or other public works maintenance work when not assigned to tree trimming duties.  Respond to emergency situations after regular working hours.   Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Tree Trimmer I
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Six (6) months of work experience involving tree maintenance or landscaping work including some tree trimming.

License and Certificate: Required upon hire, possession of a valid California driver's license.  Must obtain a valid Class B California driver’s license, Work Zone Safety I certificate from the International Municipal Signal Association (or Department approved equivalent), First Aid and CPR certification prior to permanent appointment.

Tree Trimmer II
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of work experience involving tree maintenance work including pruning, trimming and caring for trees.

The City of Lincoln is hiring up to 6 part-time Assistant Pool Managers within the Recreation Department.  This position may require you to work various days, weekends or evenings.

Seasonal employees are limited to working no more than 999 hours in a fiscal year.

Under direction, assists in the overall operations of a swimming pool facility, and its assigned temporary employees; assists in the planning, organizing, coordination, development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of aquatic activities and programs for all ages.

The Assistant Pool Manager is the working lead class responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the pool and aquatics program. This class is distinguished from the next higher classification of Pool Manager in that the latter has overall responsibility for the pool operations, programs, and staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Pool Manager. Exercises indirect supervision over temporary and seasonal aquatics personnel; may exercise direct supervision in the Pool Manager’s absence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Include but are not limited to the following:

• Assist in monitoring and supervision of the day-to-day operations of the aquatics program, which includes direction to lifeguards/instructors; enforce and explain pool regulations and policies; administer first aid and perform emergency rescues.
• Maintain proper health specifications, in restroom and locker areas and take all safety precautions.
• Manage the daily opening and closing of the facility.
• Assist in the oversight of proper sanitation and maintenance of pool water; ensure cleanliness of restrooms, dressing rooms, and public areas; report maintenance conditions affecting facility operation and security.
• Assist in the oversight of the safe and proper operations of assigned pool; ensure pool rules and safety guidelines are followed; maintain order with disruptive patrons and exercise crowd control where warranted; and refer escalated issues to assigned supervisor or proper authorities.
• Exercise lead/indirect supervision over all assigned staff including temporary and seasonal staff, independent contract instructors, and volunteers. Exercise direct supervision in the Pool Manager’s absence.
• Participate in the recruitment and hiring of temporary, part-time, or seasonal aquatics staff as required.
• Promote and enforce water safety procedures; effect swimming rescues; render first aid and CPR as required; ensure the safety of pool users and enforce all user rules and policies of the department.
• Complete, review, and file accident and incident reports; assist with follow-up related to reports; purchase, check, and maintain first aid equipment; perform daily safety checks and inspections of the facility and all equipment.
• Assist with employee schedules; complete reports on chemical tests; assist with the training of lifeguards and other aquatics staff; verify and check aquatics staff timecards; submit timecards to Pool Manager for approval; coordinate and facilitate staff meetings; assist with special events.
• Work with maintenance staff to ensure that pool facility maintenance procedures are followed.
• Keep the pool, pool deck, and auxiliary buildings/areas clean and free of litter and debris.
• Act as the Pool Manager in her/his absence.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when reading correspondence, statistical data and using a computer. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and equipment weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. The incumbent may use cleaning chemicals, or pool chemicals, which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot and cold and is required to swim.

SRFECC is preparing for a Dispatcher Academy, beginning February 2026! As a Dispatcher I, you will be a key player in the public safety network, managing both emergency and non-emergency calls. Key Responsibilities:
Dispatch Operations:

• Operate a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) console with a multi-line telephone system, radio console, and office computer terminal.
