WOODLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE HOST SITE
Woodland Community College is partnering with the City of Woodland to host two fellows as part of this year’s Civic Fellowship Program. The fellows will work on-site at WCC and receive day-to-day guidance and supervision from WCC staff while remaining part of the fellowship cohort and participating in program-wide activities.

This posting is for the Community College Strategic Initiatives Fellow within the Office of the President at Woodland Community College.

Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, up to 40 hours per week.

 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Community College Strategic Initiatives Fellow will play a key role in advancing and operationalizing Woodland Community College’s newly adopted Strategic Plan, with a deliberate emphasis on institutional capacity building, student success, and long-term socioeconomic mobility.

Housed within the Office of the President, this position will operate at a cross-divisional level, partnering with academic affairs, student services, workforce development, and administrative leadership to drive strategic initiatives from concept through implementation. This fellow will provide research, policy analysis, project management, and performance tracking support to ensure strategic priorities are translated into measurable outcomes.

Core areas of responsibility include advancing enrollment growth strategies, strengthening retention and completion pathways, aligning academic programs with regional workforce needs, expanding equity-centered student supports, and cultivating high-impact community and industry partnerships. This role will contribute to data-informed decision-making, continuous improvement efforts, and the overall enhancement of institutional effectiveness.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS

The goals of this position are to:

1. Develop Applied Expertise in Higher Education Policy Implementation and Strategic Planning
Gain hands-on experience translating strategic priorities into operational initiatives within a community college setting. Contribute to the implementation of institutional goals by supporting policy analysis, drafting implementation frameworks, monitoring performance indicators, and participating in executive-level planning discussions.

 

2. Build Competency in Data-Informed Decision-Making to Advance Student Success
Strengthen analytical capacity by working with enrollment, retention, completion, and workforce outcomes data. Develop the ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative findings, identify trends and gaps, and produce actionable recommendations that support continuous improvement and measurable gains in student achievement.

 

3. Strengthen Project Management and Cross-Functional Coordination Skills
Cultivate the ability to manage complex initiatives across multiple departments, including academic affairs, student services, workforce development, and external partners. SALARY RANGE

$20.00 - $25.00 / hour dependent on experience.

 

The pay cycle is bi-weekly.  No other benefits compensations are provided except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave.  Employees must contribute 1.45% of their salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan under Federal Law.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland is seeking a motivated, resourceful self-starter to join the Community Development Planning team in a dynamic fellowship role that bridges municipal planning and historic preservation. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in core planning functions while contributing meaningfully to the preservation and celebration of the City’s historic character.

In this role, the Fellow will serve as a key point of contact for residents, property owners, and community stakeholders seeking information on general planning inquiries, zoning standards, and land use regulations. The position provides practical exposure to municipal planning processes, including development review, interpretation of zoning codes, and customer service within a public-sector framework.

A central component of the fellowship will be leading a comprehensive revamp of the City’s historic preservation education and outreach efforts. This includes researching and developing accessible educational materials, enhancing digital resources, and expanding community awareness of preservation programs and incentives. The Fellow will gain experience working with state and federal historic preservation documentation requirements and processes, strengthening their understanding of regulatory compliance and cultural resource management.

Additional responsibilities will include supporting GIS-based storytelling initiatives through interactive story mapping, assisting with webpage design and content updates to improve public access to preservation resources, and contributing to the coordination of the City’s Heritage Home Awards program.

2. Inquiry Management: Respond to phone and email inquiries regarding City codes, permitting processes, and planning regulations, ensuring accurate and timely information.
    
3. Technical Research: Conduct site-specific research, data collection, and documentation to support historic preservation projects and planning initiatives.
    
4. Heritage Home Awards: Assist with the planning, nomination review, coordination, and promotion of the City’s annual Heritage Home Awards program.
    
5. Website Revamp: Audit, update, and redesign the Historic Preservation section of the City’s website to create a comprehensive, user-friendly educational hub for homeowners and the community.

Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) is partnering with the City of Woodland to host two fellows as part of this year’s Civic Fellowship Program. The fellows will work on-site at WJUSD Business Services Office and receive day-to-day guidance and supervision from WJUSD staff while remaining part of the fellowship cohort and participating in program-wide activities.

 

This posting is for the Logistics & Inventory Systems Fellow within the Transportation Department in Business Services at WJUSD.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) Service Center is seeking a motivated Civic Fellow to support inventory organization and management of parts and materials essential to district operations. This role provides hands-on experience in warehouse operations, inventory systems, and process improvement within a public education environment.

The Fellow will assess current storage and inventory practices and help implement a more efficient, organized system. Responsibilities may include developing labeling structures, organizing storage areas, establishing inventory tracking procedures, and improving material accessibility for staff. In collaboration with Service Center personnel, the Fellow will identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, organization, and accountability.

This fellowship offers practical experience in warehouse logistics, operational system design, and cross-functional collaboration, while building skills in organization, problem-solving, and process improvement within a public sector setting.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, organized, and motivated individual interested in operations, logistics, engineering, business, or public service. The Civic Fellow should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, and willing to take initiative to improve organization and efficiency.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn new systems, and the ability to think critically about processes. Interest in organization, data tracking, or hands-on operational work such as inventory or warehouse systems is desirable. Experience with spreadsheets or data entry is helpful but not required.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and reliability. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys solving practical challenges and contributing to systems that help organizations run effectively.

3. Develop and implement a standardized organizational structure for parts and materials, including clear storage locations, labeling practices, and logical grouping of inventory.

4. Improve inventory accessibility and efficiency by helping establish procedures that allow staff to quickly locate, store, and track commonly used materials.

5. Create simple documentation and reference materials to support consistent inventory organization practices, including basic procedures for storing and locating materials.

6. Develop a working understanding of school district operational support systems, including how the Service Center supports Maintenance, Facilities, and Transportation functions.

7. Contribute to continuous process improvement by identifying opportunities to improve inventory organization, storage workflows, and material tracking practices.

Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) is partnering with the City of Woodland to host two fellows as part of this year’s Civic Fellowship Program. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities Department is seeking a motivated Civic Fellow to support the district’s sustainability and environmental stewardship efforts. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in sustainability practices, facilities operations, and process improvement within a public education setting.

The Civic Fellow will assist in assessing current district practices related to recycling, waste reduction, and resource conservation. This may include reviewing recycling programs, observing waste management practices at school sites, and identifying opportunities to improve sustainability efforts. Working closely with Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities staff, the Fellow will help research best practices and develop practical recommendations to improve environmental outcomes and operational efficiency.

This fellowship provides practical exposure to sustainability planning, facilities management, and public sector operations, equipping participants with valuable skills in research, data analysis, environmental practices, and process improvement while contributing to the district’s commitment to responsible resource management.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is a motivated and detail-oriented individual with an interest in sustainability, environmental science, public administration, and/or facilities operations. The Civic Fellow should be comfortable conducting research, making observations, and working collaboratively with staff across multiple departments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn about sustainability practices. Interest in environmental responsibility, waste reduction, or operational efficiency is desirable. Experience with research, data collection, or spreadsheets is helpful but not required.

This position is well suited for someone who enjoys identifying practical solutions, working on real-world challenges, and contributing to efforts that improve environmental responsibility within a large organization.

 

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS

The goals of the position are to:

The City of Patterson is currently recruiting to fill several part-time vacancies for Lifeguard with the Recreation & Community Services Department for their Summer program and to establish an Eligibility List.

Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and the Pool Managers, the Lifeguard will be responsible for the safety of the patrons at the Patterson Aquatics Center.  The Lifeguard must remain alert and knowledgeable as well as physically fit.  Duties include, but are not limited to: maintain the office, answer phones, maintain correspondence with the public and respond to all inquiries, be generally available to answer and refer patrons to resources within the community; teach swim lessons; enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations; recognize and respond effectively in emergencies; complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.  All Lifeguards are responsible for keeping the facilities clean and safe for all patrons.

This position is established for 19 hours a week, but will vary depending on programming needs, and will be working weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Account Clerk I - This is the entry-level class in the Account Clerk series performing the more routine and less complex clerical accounting support and customer service assignments while learning City policies and procedures. Positions at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of program knowledge or skill level as positions allocated to the Account Clerk II level and exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. This classification is flexibly staffed with Account Clerk II. Account Clerk II - This is the full journey level class within the Account Clerk series. THE POSITION

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work involving the trimming, removal, installation and general maintenance of trees.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Community Services Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Ideal Candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of practices and procedures identified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) as they relate to a municipal setting. The Ideal Candidate will also possess good communication, customer service and writing skills, as well as demonstrate competence working with computers and related software, e.g., maintenance management and MS Outlook. Additionally, they will have a strong work ethic, ability to climb trees, work out of an aerial truck, be available to work overtime and perform standby duty as needed. The Ideal Candidate should have knowledge in operating chain and hand saws, operating a chipper, a background in landscaping with planting trees, and experience with setting-up and tearing-down of traffic control. The Ideal Candidate also has knowledge of safety & best management practices used in operating and maintaining tree pruning equipment and trucks.

Tree Trimmer I:
This is the entry level class in the Tree Trimmer series.  Positions in this class will usually perform most of the duties required of Tree Trimmers I and II; however, as compared to the Tree Trimmer II, is not expected to function at the same skill level and will usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Tree Trimmer II:
This is the journey level class in the Tree Trimmer series.  This class differs from Tree Trimmer I in that incumbent performs more complex duties.  This incumbent Tree Trimmer II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel.

Prune trees and shrubbery to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs, and lights, and as necessary to ensure continued health of the plant.  Remove fallen trees, dead limbs, and other debris resulting from storm damage and general conditions.  Participate in the large-scale application of herbicides and pesticides.  Clean and maintain trimming equipment.  Work both independently and as a crew member in removing trees and stumps.  Plant, stake, spray and inject trees.  Operate a chipper, aerial truck, mist sprayer and miscellaneous equipment which could include routers, loaders, forklifts, and dump trucks.  Use a variety of hand tools including hand saws, pole saws, chain saws, and pole loppers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
May perform street drainage maintenance or other public works maintenance work when not assigned to tree trimming duties.  Respond to emergency situations after regular working hours.   Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Tree Trimmer I
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Six (6) months of work experience involving tree maintenance or landscaping work including some tree trimming.

License and Certificate: Required upon hire, possession of a valid California driver's license.  Must obtain a valid Class B California driver’s license, Work Zone Safety I certificate from the International Municipal Signal Association (or Department approved equivalent), First Aid and CPR certification prior to permanent appointment.

 

Tree Trimmer II
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of work experience involving tree maintenance work including pruning, trimming and caring for trees.

License and Certificate: Required upon hire, possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License.  Possession of a Work Zone Safety I certificate from the International Municipal Signal Association (or Department approved equivalent), First Aid and CPR certification prior to permanent appointment.  Possession of a Certified Commercial Applicator license from the State of California and Certification as an Arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture is highly desirable.

CalPERS Retirement System (2 % @ 60 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2% @ 62 formula for new CalPERS members).  The City does not participate in social security
