These positions are part-time, hourly, non-benefited classifications limited to a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year (or approximately 20 hours a week). 

Physical Requirements
This position requires a moderate to high level of physical activity depending on program assignment. Duties may include standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and sitting for extended periods of time while facilitating programs, interacting with participants, or performing administrative tasks. Employees must be able to actively supervise and engage participants in a variety of recreation programs and activities, both indoors and outdoors, and move quickly to respond to participant needs and ensure safety. The position may also require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment, supplies, tables, chairs, or other materials weighing up to approximately 30 – 50 pounds as part of program setup and breakdown. Some assignments may involve computer and desk work for program planning, communication, and administrative duties.

Role description

Under general supervision, assists in analyzing, planning, implementing, maintaining, troubleshooting and enhancing large complex systems or networks consisting of a combination that may include mainframes, mini-computers, personal computers, mobile devices, LANS, WANs, servers, data storage and the physical and logical components that integrate these systems together as an enterprise networking backbone. 

The 1042 Security Engineer is the journey level position in the Engineer series. The class is distinguished from the Senior level by the complexity of the tasks, projects or duties assigned, and is more independent than the Assistant level. This classification performs a wide range of complex analytical, design, planning, implementation, enhancement and problem resolution tasks on large complex systems and networks. Works within a framework of established procedures and interprets policies, procedures and guidelines. This level may formulate recommendations consistent with directives, policies, standards and regulations. Incumbents require only occasional instruction or assistance. Work is reviewed upon completion and for overall results. Serves as a technical architect and systems integrator for large complex systems or networks, with a focus on securing vulnerabilities and reducing risk of system and/or asset compromises.

Essential Duties:
 

1. Determine requirements for the development environment and / or enhancement for large complex systems that serve HSA’s programs. May research and conduct feasibility studies on new technologies.
2. Design, plan, integrate, test, implement, document and enhance large complex systems. This may involve the analysis, coding (.NET C#, Cold Fusion), web application design, database design, and evaluation of systems software, hardware and communications strategies.
3. Perform systems integration for interoperability over dissimilar platforms and technologies. This may involve the integration of various protocols and systems software.
4. Determine the proper installation parameters for software for smooth integration and efficiency in relation to the enterprise system and network.
5. Write code to customize large systems software which may involve specialized programming languages.
6. Read and understand requirements documentation and other documentation in order to write code to implement the required features for application systems.
7. Analyze, detect, identify and correct complex systems software or hardware deficiencies. Analyze, research and debug program logic and systems; modify program logic; analyze service requests for system changes or new requirements to determine the most effective approach and the appropriate staff time required to achieve the needed modification.
8. Provide emergency technical support for application issues to ensure system availability and data integrity. May provide on-call support to ensure rapid recovery from software or hardware problems for mission-critical systems and networks.
9. Act as the liaison between vendors, technical support hot-lines and departments to resolve complex systems. Coordinate and implement corrective measures; this may involve site visits, telephone assistance, remote systems and participation in technical committees.
10. Facilitate the demonstration and training of staff in the use of new hardware or software products.
11. Document procedures and troubleshooting techniques related to systems software and hardware; develop technical documentation and review documentation prior to general distribution.
12. Plan, develop and implement backup and recovery procedures for large systems.
13. Communicate with managers regarding system performance and operational issues. Suggest improvements to management.
14. Research and test new software technologies; report results; recommend software purchases. Learn and implement the new technologies that are brought in. Coordinate and work with vendors when needed. 
15. Attend meetings, workshops, and demonstrations; perform duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The City is planning for the replacement and expansion of two of its existing fire stations, modernizing and relocating the facilities to better serve the public.

In support of the San Mateo County automatic aid agreement, all entry level candidates will attend a regional, county-wide, fire academy where they will be introduced to all agencies in the county and rotate through a variety of training sites.  The roughly 12-week academy also includes specialized training depending on candidate certifications.

About Maple Street Correctional Center
Designed to create a better environment for incarcerated individuals and staff and to help reduce recidivism, the facility was the first correctional center built as part of California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s initiative to shift nonviolent, nonsexual offenders from overcrowded state prisons to county-run facilities. The center accommodates female and lower-risk male incarcerated individuals and is composed of two separate but interconnected buildings with a central administration area.

The facility’s architecture emphasizes safety, rehabilitation, and natural light. Instead of placing cells along the exterior walls as in most jails, the design features a curved glass façade with dayrooms located along windowed areas that open to individual living units. This layout improves supervision while allowing daylight to enter the building, helping the white-painted cells feel more open and spacious.

Each floor has a central core station supporting four housing units. These areas include classrooms, a computer lab, and multipurpose rooms to support educational and rehabilitative programming. Additional design elements include natural ventilation, a large rooftop recreation yard, artwork depicting scenes from nature, and a calming natural color palette.

An attached 88-bed transitional housing facility supports alternative sentencing programs such as day reporting, weekend programs, and other supervised custody arrangements, helping prepare individuals for reentry into the community.

Step 1:  Application Submission: All applicants are required to submit an online application to be considered. Step 2:  Written Examination: Applicants for the Sheriff’s Correctional Officer have three options for meeting the written examination requirement:

1. POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB): This exam must be completed in less than 2.5 hours, be passed with a minimum T-Score of 46 and be dated within twelve (12) months of the date of application. The areas covered by the test include spelling, vocabulary, clarity, reading and CLOZE (using contextual clues to complete a passage that contains missing words). OR

2. Possession of a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Certificate or possession of an Adult Corrections Officer Core completion certificate from a certified Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) academy from the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC).

3. Possession of an associate's degree or higher from an accredited U.S. college or university.

Step 3:  Physical Agility Examination – Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB): This exam must be passed with a minimum score of 320 and be dated within twelve (12) months of the date of application. This test mirrors the California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) test and is advertised as such on The Academy's website. Applicants can submit scores from either the WSTB or the Correctional Officer test through The Academy. The events for the Correctional Officer test include:

• 99-yard obstacle course in under 23 seconds
• 165-pound body drag for 32-feet in under 7 seconds
• 165-pound body lift for 60 seconds
• 500-yard run in under 2 minutes
• 1.5-mile run in 15 minutes or less

IMPORTANT: When you report for the test, inform The Academy that you are applying to be a Correctional Officer with San Mateo County. San Mateo County Correctional Officer applicants will not be required to participate in climbing the 6-foot chain link fence or 6-foot solid wall portion of the WSTB test.

NOTE: PELLETB test and WSTB results from other training organizations or law enforcement agencies will be accepted so long as they meet California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements.

 

 

Examples Of Duties

Sheriff's Correctional Officer duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Receive, search, book, fingerprint, and guard inmates in the correctional facilities.  
• Take custody of inmates’ property.  
• Maintain records of bookings, releases, transfers, money and other functions of the correctional facilities.
• Prepare inmates for court and for release.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

If designated as Correctional Deputy, also perform the following:

• Transport and provide security for inmates at the hospital.
• Transport inmates between custodial facilities.
• Provide security for inmates at court.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

Education: 

• A high school graduate or passing the General Education Development (GED) test or other high school equivalency test approved by CDE, or completion of at least 30 college units from an accredited or approved institution to apply.

San Mateo County Health's Aging and Disability Services Division is seeking qualified individuals for the unclassified and limited-term positions of In-Home Supportive Services Social Worker I/II/III. Social Workers provide a wide variety of welfare services in such areas as information and referral, protective services, out-of-home services, health related services, chore services, and other welfare services within the Health and the Human Services Agency.

 
Currently, there are three limited-term vacancies and an unclassified vacancy in the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Program. The program provides in-home care for persons who cannot safely remain in their own home without such assistance. The recipients of IHSS are aged, blind and/or disabled and eligible for Medi-Cal. Disabled and/or blind minor children may also be eligible for IHSS. The Social Worker will make a home visit to determine eligibility for the program and to conduct an assessment to determine a range of service hours for particular tasks. The IHSS recipient or guardian is the IHSS employer and is responsible for hiring and supervising a provider for the care they receive. The Social Worker will travel throughout the County to conduct home visits, attend meetings and perform other duties of the position. The Social Worker will work in the San Mateo, CA Aging and Disability Services Office.
 

This IHSS Social Worker will conduct intake and/or on-going activities for IHSS recipients. Some of those activities include:

• Conduct initial IHSS assessments using a detailed State assessment tool.

SALARY:
Social Worker I: $7,162.13- $8,008.00/month
Social Worker II: $7,236.67- $9,048.00/month
Social Worker III: $8,533.20- $10,665.20/month

Social Workers provide highly skilled, intensive casework services to individuals and their families and provide casework consultation within the department and to outside agencies.  Incumbents of positions at this level work with minimal supervision and are expected to have acquired the high degree of assessment skills required to perform care coordination and referral tasks in complex casework areas. Lead supervisory responsibilities may be assigned as circumstances dictate.

NOTE: This is an unclassified position. Unclassified positions are at-will for a limited duration, typically associated with grant or other special funding. These positions are not covered by San Mateo County Civil Service Rules; and there is no formal probation period. The following are the same for classified and unclassified positions: salary, increases and other forms of compensation; accrual of sick leave, vacation, overtime, holiday and leaves of absence; health, dental, vision, long and short term disability, and retirement.

Licensure/Certification:

About The Position

We are seeking highly motivated, highly skilled, innovative and enthusiastic individuals to join the Recreation and Human Services Division with the City of Half Moon Bay.  As a critical member of this team you’ll be responsible for assisting in organizing and conducting a variety of recreation programs and activities.

What You Will Do

• Open, secure and close City facilities.
• Arrange chairs, tables and other equipment for events held at City facilities.
• Arrange audio system and room set-up for City Council, Planning Commission and Recreation Committee meetings.
• Monitor activities during the facility rentals and other facility usage including monitoring the time of access and departure of the group, monitoring set up and clean up quality provided by the group to ensure that department standards are met. Inspect facilities after usage ends. 
• Accept and file facility rental paperwork and drop in fees. 
• Provide customer service in person or by phone by orienting users, answering questions and resolving problems.
• Enforce department rules including facility rental policies.
• Communicate with the community in both English and Spanish (preferred).
• Work evenings and weekends as needed. 
• Perform related duties as assigned.

What You Bring

Sufficient education and experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of this classification. Knowing that any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. Such as:

Building Attendant I: Possession of a High School Diploma, or equivalent, and no experience working in a recreation setting.  Experience working in a recreation setting can substitute for the diploma or equivalent.

Building Attendant II: Possession of a High School Diploma, or equivalent; and two (2) year’s paid or unpaid work experience, or two (2) years of experience equivalent to the level of Building Attendant I.

Building Attendant III:  Possession of a High School Diploma, or equivalent; and four (4) year’s paid or unpaid work experience, or four (4) years of recreation leadership experience equivalent to the level of Building Attendant I.

Physical Demands

Working Conditions

This position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities.  The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing statistical reports and data using a computer keyboard.  Additionally, the position requires near vision in reading correspondence, statistical data and using a computer, and acute hearing is required when providing phone service and communicating in person.
