ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department invites you to apply for the casual position of Building Attendant. This position requires daytime availability for four-to-six-hour shifts between the hours of 8am and 5pm. A person in this classification will work flexibly, up to 20 hours per week. Locations could vary across multiple community centers, and Building Attendants will be required to open the facility as needed.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to: provide excellent customer service to youth, teens, adults, and seniors; oversee the use of the facility insuring that patrons conform to established City and building rental policies and procedures; perform classroom and multi- purpose room set-up and breakdowns for classes, meetings, and building rentals; perform front desk customer service functions; perform minor clean-up as needed including, cleaning bathrooms, floors, windows, counter tops, and emptying garbage; lock and unlock doors; secure building; set up supplies and equipment as dictated by program needs; and perform related duties as assigned.

The Challenge

As a Police Officer your duties will typically include patrolling assigned areas; interacting with the public; conducting criminal investigations; enforcing laws; investigating collisions; preserving the peace and writing reports. You will be assigned to one of three shifts spanning the 24-hour day and these shifts will periodically change. In the Patrol Section you will work three 12 hour and 20-minute workdays and have four days off. If you are assigned to any other Section, you will work four 10-hour workdays with three days off. San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department

The Opportunity:

To perform technical inspection and investigative work in enforcing compliance with laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to the prevention and control of fires; and do related work as required. The Fire Prevention Inspector I/II position is flexibly staffed based on experience.

 

This is the entry level class in the Fire Prevention Inspection series. This class is distinguished from the Fire Prevention Inspector II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series including weed abatement and smoke detector inspections, which do not require prior specialized experience. Generally, work is observed and reviewed both during performance and upon completion, and changes in procedures and exceptions to rules are explained in detail as they arise. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience.

 

What You’ll Do:

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Interpret and enforce provisions of fire prevention and fire safety laws, ordinances, and other regulations.
• Perform periodic inspections of new and existing buildings, structures and installations requiring fire clearances; identify fire hazards; recommend corrective actions; perform follow-up inspections to see that corrective actions have been taken.
• Investigate complaints pertaining to violation of fire prevention laws; issue correction orders as necessary.

Role description

Under general supervision, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide variety of pumping, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and auxiliary plant machinery and equipment in a large complex or multi-faceted facility. Ensures that all equipment, machinery and systems are functioning normally and safely, and complies with all applicable safety rules and regulations. The incumbent will either be assigned to work in the world class historic Cable Car Barn or the Mechanical Systems Program which manages SFMTA’s subway system, this includes the recently completed Central Subway extension project.

*Different shifts at the Mechanical Systems Program (MSP), various Subway Stations, and Cable Car (CC) Building, at 1201 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA 94108. Initial trainings may occur in shifts different than those listed below:

1. Transit CC (Grave, SUN-THU, 21:00-05:00 / 9:00pm-5:00am)
2. Transit CC (Grave, THU-MON, 21:00-05:00 / 9:00pm-5:00am)

Essential functions of the class include:

• Operates, maintains and repairs a wide variety of pumping, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and power generating equipment in a large complex or multi-faceted facility to ensure the safe, correct and efficient functioning of the facility and equipment may be required to operate computerized building management systems, preventative or predictive maintenance computer systems or Computerized Data Gathering System (SCADA).
• Inspects and tests: machinery and equipment for safe, efficient and proper operation by visual and audio inspection during walk-throughs and by standard monitoring; fire prevention equipment to ensure safe and proper functionality; water storage and multiple distribution systems, high pressure zones, wood and steel storage tanks, pumps and relief valves, and samples of water.
• Makes entries and keeps records on shift operation by taking and entering gauge readings and accurate water laboratory analysis readings and temperatures on operating log sheets or into a computer data system to ensure preventative maintenance and equipment history; and changes charts and recordings accordingly.
• Receives, records and stores large amounts of treatment chemicals and may handle hazardous chemicals in confined or enclosed areas; must be capable of safely and properly handling chemical spills; may also include handling and treatment of industrial or hazardous waste.
• Contacts, communicates and is required to deal with contractors, building tenants and/or the general public in order to be able to discharge assigned duties.
• Maintains keys, communications equipment, and security (in the absence of Security Personnel), in order to ensure the security of a plant and buildings and grounds, including public safety. As part of an emergency response team, recognizes, evaluates, and responds to potentially hazardous situations.
• Performs control tests on water samples to determine chlorine and fluoride residual, pH, alkalinity, turbidity, color, saturation index and flocculation factors; under supervision, conducts water analysis and regulates treatment chemical dosages to maintain water quality in filtration plant, distribution system, or other large complex facility may also be required to perform water analysis on water/wastewater as required by the State of California; performs boiler water and cooling tower chemical tests, including pH, alkalinity TDS, etc., to monitor and control growth of organisms in water.
• Performs related duties as required.

Nature of work
Involves physical effort in the repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment; the ability to lift heavy objects; exposure to working conditions where minor abrasions, bruises, and burns may occur; occasional uncomfortable work inside closed and dirty spaces; exposure to potential uncomfortable weather conditions and traffic conditions; and requires physical stamina to stand, stoop, bend and climb ladders while working in confined spaces, entryways and tight crawl spaces.  Some positions may also require the ability to operate both automatic and manual automobile transmission as needed. Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays, and a shift of up to 12 hours.

How to qualify

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Four (4) years of verified journey-level stationary engineer experience in the maintenance, repair and operation of a variety of mechanical and electrical pumping, heating, air conditioning, ventilating and related plant machinery used in a government establishment, hospital, industrial, production or commercial building; AND

2. Possession of a valid California Driver’s License; AND

3. Possession at time of hire a Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certificate issued by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.

Substitution: (Any of the following may be substituted for the required experience)

• Completion of a recognized four-year Stationary Engineer apprenticeship program
• Graduation from a recognized four-year Maritime Academy with a degree in engineering or technology
• Possession of at least a 3rd Assistant Marine Engineer's License of any (unrestricted) horsepower

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has determined that Class 7334 Stationary Engineer is a “safety-sensitive” position, under regulations issued by the Federal Transit Administration (49 CFR Part 655). San Mateo County Health's Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division (BHRS) is seeking a well-qualified individual for the position of Occupational Therapist II - Therapeutic Day Schools.

 

The mental health Occupational Therapy within the Therapeutic Day Schools (TDS) program assists youth in acquiring skills needed to function in their life roles of student and worker. As the students in the TDS program progress toward graduation they are then linked with the Department of Rehabilitation for assessment and counseling for future placement. The Occupational Therapist also provides treatment through the use of arts and crafts activities. The focus of this "activity" based treatment is the development of pre-vocational skills: pro-social and task skills.

 

Occupation Therapy services in the TDS unit are provided in two general areas: direct and indirect services. These services function to prepare the young person for the roles of a student, performance of age-appropriate daily living behaviors and ultimately the transition to worker, college student, or vocational training.

 

The Occupational Therapy program addresses: independent living skills, pre-vocational skills, socialization skills, recreation and leisure activities, and transition activities as outlined in the students Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

 

The Therapeutic Day School unit is comprised of two separate school programs serving high school aged special education students in the Jefferson High School District, and South San Francisco Unified School District. Each TDS program is a collaboration between that designated high school district. TDS students are certified special education students who have been evaluated and determined in need of intensive mental health services in order to benefit from their education. The core staff is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team including both mental health and educational staff. The TDS program works in close collaboration with outside service providers such as probation, social services, education, Wrap- Around service providers and other mental health contract agencies.

 

The Therapeutic Day School BHRS Staff include a Clinical Services Manager (1), Supervising Mental Health Clinician (1), Psychiatric Social Workers / Marriage and Family Therapists (2), Creative Arts Therapist (1), Occupational Therapist (1), Psychiatrist (1) and Medical Office Assistant (1). District special education staff include the Special Education Director (1), Program Specialist (1), Special Education Teacher (1 or 2), and Teaching Associates (1 or 2).

 

The ideal candidates will have:

• Experience working with adolescents in a mental health setting
• Experience working on a multidisciplinary team
• Experience working with special education students and participating in the IEP process
• Familiarity with normal adolescent development
• Familiarity with psychiatric disorders as defined in the DSM V manual
• Ability to provide treatment to youth who have co-occurring substance use issues
• Ability to structure and effectively run activity-based groups with teenagers

 

Responsibilities will include:

• Assessment and development of a treatment plan that links to the BHRS client treatment plan.
• Coordinating and implementing the TDS program's Occupational Therapy program, including group treatment, individual treatment, linkage to various agencies, and consultation to staff and families.
• Continual evaluation of youth capacities and deficits, and the students' response to treatment including the measurement of change and development.
• Conduct assessments, share findings and make appropriate recommendations.
• Collaborate and coordinate with the multi-disciplinary team which includes special education staff and mental health staff in order to provide comprehensive treatment to youth in the TDS program.
• Participate in milieu therapy and enforce the behavior management system.
• Provide consultation and support to families and staff as needed.
• Provide education and training to staff as needed.
• Liaison with community agencies to assess, implement or coordinate services.
• Work closely with district vocational support staff to assist students in transitioning to the role of worker.
• Participate in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings by completing and monitoring progress of the Individualized Transition Plan (ITP).

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

• Occupational Therapist II: One year of supervised experience in occupational therapy.

 Licensure/Certification: 

• Eligibility for or registration as an Occupational Therapist by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. Failure to obtain this licensure within twelve months of employment may result in termination.

Correctional Health Services (CHS) therapists provide clinical mental health services utilizing Trauma Informed Care to inmates with mental illness, serious mental illness, or substance use disorders and/or co-occurring disorders of mental illness, serious mental illness, and chemical dependency. They also provide case management services and discharge planning by interviewing inmate patients to assess mental health needs and formulate treatment plans. They function as a team member in a multi-disciplinary work setting where they collaborate with Sheriff's Office staff to manage inmate patients' daily activities. The Ideal Candidate will possess

• A current license as either a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Marriage and Family Therapist.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space.

The Building Maintenance Division maintains 32 facilities totaling more than 563,000 square feet and over 275 acres of park land. The division provides janitorial, preventative maintenance services, and necessary building and related equipment repairs to all of the City's facilities, including interior and exterior work. The division also performs a variety of tasks, which include moving furniture, set-ups, and many other miscellaneous tasks as required. 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques used in performing custodial repair and maintenance; occupational hazards and safety practices and procedures related to the work; and techniques for dealing with the public, City staff, and representatives of contractors in an effective manner. The ideal Building Maintenance Custodian will also have the ability to maintain proper standards of cleanliness in assigned areas; follow written and verbal instructions; maintain basic records; and use materials, tools, and equipment safely and effectively form physical labor, including periodic heavy labor.

The Position

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Sweeps, mops, waxes and polishes floors; shampoos and cares for carpets and rugs.
• Dusts and polishes woodwork, furniture, fixtures and equipment; wash windows, walls and other fixtures.
• Empties and cleans trash containers and wastebaskets; picks up paper and other debris.
• Cleans rest rooms and maintain supplies.
• Locks and unlocks doors, as necessary, provides for other forms of building security.
• Sets up rooms for meetings and other special events.
• May deliver materials and supplies to and from City locations.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of janitorial experience 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record, which must be maintained as a condition of employment.

The Position:
The Accountant performs professional work involved in first line supervision of accounting functions, complex account development, maintenance, modification, and reporting. Under direction, the position is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles to analyze, maintain, reconcile and verify a variety of budgetary, accounting and other fiscal records. The position supervises daily operations in a variety of functional accounting areas and maintains adequate oversight and internal controls over such operations. Public contact is extensive and involves staff at various levels within the organization, local government agencies and other outside entities for the purpose of exchanging technical accounting procedural and policy information. A high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to analyze data and develop resolutions to a variety of minor and major problems that occur.
