The City of Thousand Oaks has an excellent opportunity for a Combination Building Inspector I/II! 

This position may be filled as Combination Building Inspector I ($36.0157 - $48.2645 per hour) or Combination Building Inspector II ($39.7935 - $53.3271 per hour), depending on candidate experience and qualifications.  

The Combination Building Inspector I/II plays a crucial role in protecting public health, safety, and welfare by reviewing construction projects to ensure compliance with minimum standards. Their inspections cover not only the structural stability of buildings but also key safety aspects such as fire protection, life-safety features, energy efficiency, and the proper functioning of plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems. 

The Combination Building Inspector must possess excellent customer service and communication skills, be self-motivated, exercise discretion and independent judgment, and project a very professional image through in-person, phone, and e-mail interactions at all times. Additionally, this position will plan check in specialized areas such as plumbing, mechanical and electrical.  

  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Conducts inspection work to enforce building, fire and life safety, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, accessibility, and other related codes and regulations that govern the construction, alteration, repair, and use of buildings and structures.  

• Reads and interprets plans and specifications for inspection on commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Performs pre-construction inspections on complex permits to get familiarized with the project milestones and establish communication channels with the contractor and the design team. 

• Participates in the development of policies and procedures; recommends programs and projects to the inspector supervisor and the inspection team.  

• Ensures a high-performance, customer service-oriented work environment that supports the department and City’s mission, objectives, and values. 

• Confers and coordinates with, and provides information and assistance to owners, architects, engineers, contractors, builders, and the general public in the field and office; explains and interprets applicable codes, ordinances, and zoning regulations.

Map out the way VTA moves. VTA is seeking an experienced Senior Land Surveyor to supervise and coordinate the activities of field and office surveying functions. Work with regional and member agencies as well as elected officials and the public to improve transit services and roadway congestion and encourage multimodality.  

A senior-level opportunity in the Engineering and Program Delivery Division responsible for conducting professional surveying services on transit, highway and multimodal projects. You will work on various infrastructure projects and programs as the liaison between various departments within the division and with other divisions within the agency.

Definition
Under general supervision, the Senior Land Surveyor supervises and coordinates the activities of field and office surveying functions and assists the Survey and Mapping Manager with supervisory and administrative functions of the Survey Services Unit.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a single position classification responsible for assisting the Survey and Mapping Manager in supervising the efforts of subordinate personnel including surveyors, engineering technicians, and consultants. The Senior Land Surveyor can be assigned to any of the following areas: supervision of survey activities in the field for design and construction projects, supervision of office surveying functions such as mapping, writing legal descriptions, and production of accurate calculations used for engineering, real estate and construction activities.

This classification requires that the incumbent be licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of California or equivalent and possess specialized knowledge of land surveying techniques and construction surveying, with emphasis on technology such as GPS (Global Positioning System) methodology and instrumentation. This position will supervise professional and/or administrative staff, as well as identify the need for establishing and administering consultant contracts. This position works with other public agencies (e.g., Caltrans, local cities and counties, water district) to establish property exchanges and rights of way for transportation improvements.

Essential Job Functions

Typical Tasks

• Selects, supervises, trains, motivates, assigns, evaluates, counsels and disciplines subordinate personnel;
• Supervises office and field survey activities;
• Advises survey staff regarding methods and techniques of surveying;
• Provides direction to the Survey Department's Record Drawing Group as needed;
• Coordinates surveying activities with real estate agents, engineers, inspectors, contractors, etc.;
• Attends pre-construction meetings or assigns survey staff to attend and keeps informed on projects and related activities;
• May recommend design changes to conform with field conditions;
• May administer consultant contracts;
• Supervises personnel performing office and/or field work required for preparation of Record of Survey Maps, Parcel Maps, Corner Records, legal descriptions, and construction layout plans for VTA projects;
• Serves as Responsible Charge as described in the Professional Engineers' and Land Surveyors' Act including stamping, signing, and certifying the correctness of documents;
• Interprets legal descriptions of real property;
• Uses AutoCAD, Softdesk, and other computer aided design software in the development of maps and calculations;
• Interacts with various public and private organizations;
• Prepares clear and comprehensive reports and technical correspondences;
• Performs technical surveying work as required including GPS surveying, running level loops, and producing maps and legal descriptions;
• Performs related work as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards
Sufficient training, education, and experience to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Development of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is typically obtained through training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in surveying science, engineering or a related field and a minimum of eight (8) years of technical surveying experience, at least three (3) years of which must have been in a position comparable to that of a field surveying Chief of Party and/or office surveying "Lead" Land Surveyor. Directly related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of California or equivalent is required at the time of appointment.

The San José City Council consists of ten Councilmembers elected by district and a Mayor elected at-large, each for four-year terms. Position Duties

The Council District Offices 2, 6, and 10 are up for election this year. The incoming elected officials will be recruiting for positions. The Council Policy and Legislative Advisor position will provide administrative, constituent services, and legislative support for an elected official. The position typically requires researching and responding to inquiries from residents; drafting written communications involving strategy, policies and/or procedures on behalf of the elected official; and serving as the representative of the elected official regarding certain functions. These duties require an employee with strong and effective organizational skills; ability to handle multiple assignments; excellent written and oral communications skills, and the ability to develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with community members and neighborhood organizations, key stakeholders, and City staff.
 
Responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Leads initiatives within an assigned policy portfolio. Drives policy priorities through government and legislative process. Research best practices on assigned policy portfolio.
• Drafts resolutions, commendations, memos, and other materials on the City Council agenda.
• Prepares written memoranda and reports which articulate the elected official’s proposals, priorities, and positions on matters pending before the City Council or other governmental agencies. 
• Provides communication support such as drafting correspondence, memoranda, or reports for routine to complex matters related to neighborhood or community concerns, pending issues before the City Council or another governmental body; state or federal legislation; or other matters. 
• Assists in preparation of speeches and talking points for the Councilmember.
• Develops and maintains positive working relationships with council offices, community organizations, residents, business community, non-profit organizations, and government agencies as they are key partners on policy and as a representative of the Councilmember's Office.
• Coordinates arrangements for meetings, programs, or other civic functions on behalf of the Councilmember.
• Attends meetings and community events with the Councilmember, requires availability on evenings and weekends.
• Analyzes a wide variety of materials on assigned projects, programs, and topics.
• Responds to constituent inquiries and issues, resolving complaints, and interpreting operating policies for residents of the community and other interested parties.
• Attends and represents the Councilmember at City-related meetings and activities, meeting with governmental agencies, private industry, and related meetings.

Employees in this classification are not members of the classified civil service and appointment would be on a contract “at-will” basis and is for a specified period of time to be determined by the appointing elected official and does not extend past the end of the elected official's term. Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule as needed, including frequent evenings and weekends and as exempt management employees, are not eligible for overtime compensation. This unclassified position requires a disclosure of outside investments, real property interest, income and business positions.

Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of complex skilled irrigation, grounds mainten­ance and landscape tasks in accordance with District policies and procedures; works indepen­dently and exercises judgment; ensures daily workload is carried out through individual and cooperative efforts; performs preventive maintenance of District-owned properties; and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of technical duties to ensure accurate and timely data entry and processing of various financial records; documents financial transactions in general ledger accounts; reconciles bank, accounting and payroll data; analyzes journal
• Develops and implements plans for daily/regularly-scheduled park irrigation maintenance; installs, repairs and maintains irrigation equipment, as necessary.
• Establishes water budgets for each park facility; audits and calculates park/facility water usage, analyzes and interprets data and provides monthly reports.
• Investigates and develops new methods and/or improvements to existing methods that result in effective management and conservation strategies of limited water resources.
• Evaluates and makes recommendations, provides technical expertise to District staff, and provides reports to supervisor regarding water conservation objectives.
• Provides irrigation/water management training to staff.
• Assists in the design and makes water usage/conservation recommendations for new parks/ rehabilitation projects.
• Assists in seeking grants for water efficiency devices.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• May be required to drive District or personal vehicle.
• May provide technical work guidance to Groundskeepers, contractors or temporary staff; participates in prioritizing irrigation/maintenance/water conservation workload and monitoring work of other employees for completeness, accuracy and conformance with departmental standards; provides information, instruction and training on work processes, proper uses of equipment, and safe work practices.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed
• Non-exempt employees may be required to work overtime.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill, and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED equivalent and two years of pertinent experience in installing and maintaining landscape irrigation systems; or an equiva­lent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations to other employees and visitors.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Certificates and Licenses:  

• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.
• Certified Water Auditor.

This department is seeking to fill one (1) full-time Power Resources Specialist I/II position to support the Risk Management and Contracts Administration Division.

This position is part of an exciting fast-paced team responsible for mitigating risks and managing a power portfolio comprised of hundreds of megawatts of renewable energy projects.

The selected candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

• Evaluate, review, and validate the accuracy of market positions and risk metrics such as mark-to-market, value at risk, gross margin at risk.
• Perform quantitative and analytical data modeling to quantify risks, evaluate risk reduction strategies, aid strategic/ operational decision making and provide insights.
• Update, manage and validate accuracy of Power BI business intelligence dashboards related to energy risk management such as risk limits, forward prices, collateral.
• Execute monthly and ad-hoc data reporting and quantitative modeling tasks.

• Develop an hourly trading strategy for energy, capacity, transmission, and/or ancillary services by dispatching resources in a correct way;

• Work with trading staff to develop pricing strategy for energy-limited resources;
• Perform contingency analysis to develop optimized strategy for the dispatch of generation resources, and to optimize purchases and sales of capacity, energy, transmission, and ancillary service;
• Manage hydro reservoir levels and in-flows to ensure economic dispatch of SW’s projects;
• Prepare and submit all reports required as a scheduling coordinator including inter-tie, California Central System Operator (CISO), and South West (SW);
• Adjust/optimize/balance schedules to account for system outages;
• Provide training of co-workers;
• Forecast weather conditions by using like seasons, days and temperatures;
• Forecast customer energy requirements considering historical demands and applicable load shapes;
• Develop and maintain harmonious operations with interconnected utilities, wholesale entities, electric and hydro trading partners and other stakeholders through the use of effective communications practices; and
• Perform other related work as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education and experience equivalent to:
•  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a closely related field; and
• Three (3) years experience in public or private sector power scheduling or trading and/or Independent System Operator (ISO) scheduling.

LICENSE
Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
• Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, to schedules that may include Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and non-traditional work hours; and a willingness to work overtime as required.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is hiring two part-time Recreation Specialist positions, each with a distinct focus. One position will support Youth, Adaptive, and Senior programs, while the other will focus specifically on serving the East Gilroy neighborhood with various recreation programs. Both roles will involve leading programs for socio-economically disadvantaged youth, teens, and adults, managing part-time staff, program planning, administering grants, and collaborating with local organizations and public agencies.
 
Under general supervision of a Recreation Manager, Recreation Supervisor, or Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Specialist will plan, organize, and direct the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs.
