The City of San José , Public Works Department is seeking to fill five ( 5 ) full- time Electrician vacancies . The department's tight-kn i t team of E lectrician s work collabo ra tively and intra-departmentally to ensure electrical components and systems are installed and m aintained throughout city facilities such as community centers, l ibraries and public park s.

Electrician I is the entry-level class in the Electrician series. Incumbents are provided with training and experience to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the full range of installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.

Electrician II is the journey level class in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment, working independently under general supervision.

Electricians are responsible for installing, maintaining , testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and operating high and low voltage/amperage electrical components, systems and equipment including locating problems; determining appropriate courses of action; and coordinating repairs with affected parties. They design, fabricate, and install electrical systems and components and install wiring and electrical equipment, ensuring code compliance. Electricians review work orders, maintain activity logs, prepare requisitions and obtain approval for various projects. Duties may also include purchasing electrical supplies, including filling out paperwork; coordinating purchases; and, choosing vendors. They are responsible for responding to occasional emergencies, evaluating and taking required actions and determining if support is needed. Public Works electrician duties also include:

• N ew construction, remodels, small tenant improvement projects ;
• L ighting retrofit projects ;
• M aintenance of pump stations (includes motor controls and PLC's and computerized alarm and monitoring of pumps, etc. ) ;
• Maintenance of E mergency generators, fire alarm systems, vehicle gate operators, badge access controls, lighting control systems ;
• E lectrical building distribution systems and equipment up to and including 12kv ;
• I nstalling cat 5 and fiber optic networks and maintenance of all City buildings ; and
• Setting up t emporary power for special events and public address setups.

Position Duties

The Senior Educational Facilities Planner (Sr. Planner) provides professional planning services that guide the physical development of the campus and assists in strategic development and improvement of buildings and space to support UCSC's mission of research, teaching, and public service. As a senior member of the unit, the Sr. Planner is the resident expert on campus and UC policy regarding capital matters, and provides assistance and support in all areas of planning for CPSM staff, campus leadership. They also act as liaison to the Office of Capital Planning at the UC Office of the President.

The Sr. Planner uses skills as a seasoned, experienced planning professional with a full understanding of industry practices and procedures to resolve a wide range of planning issues; uses advanced planning concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues; develops short and long range capital plans, demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for analyzing alternatives and recommending solutions; exhibits high levels of organization; recommends revisions to proceedures and policies to improve efficiency, and is able to operate with considerable independence.

The Sr. Planner provides high-level reports and analysis of campus space needs in an effort to ensure the efficient use of campus space; works with campus leadership and clients to provide in-depth programming, utilization and visioning studies for all types of campus space using a variety of planning tools: metrics, conceptual space plans, and test fit diagrams; coordinates with campus technical experts on the re-use of space; generates and manipulates large data sets, manages databases to comprehensively manage campus capital expenditures, leads and coordinates the annual updates to the multi-year Capital and Seismic Financial Plans, and generates analytics for capital planning, space management and capital outlay.

Capital Planning and Space Management (CPSM) is a unit within the Division of Business Administration (BAS.) The Division includes a broad and diverse set of operational units that provides and maintains administrative, student development and physical infrastructure that supports the mission of the campus. As a member of BAS, CPSM supports the Office of the Chancellor and Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor in the areas of capital financial planning and policy analysis. In this capacity, CPSM develops and maintains relevant databases, provides analyses of policies and programs, assists in the determination of campus priorities, and in the development of strategies designed to achieve these priorities. The City of Santa Clara is recruiting for the Electric Utility Chief Operating Officer for its Electric Utility, Silicon Valley Power (SVP).  Reporting to the Chief Electric Utility Officer (CEUO), the Electric Utility Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a senior management position in the City's unclassified service responsible for the oversight and direction for the fiscal, administrative, and managerial operations of the utility. The COO has supervisory and support responsibilities for the utility's divisions: Utility Operations, Customer Development and Project Management, Resource Planning and Customer Engagement, and Business Services. The COO will help guide SVP through the extraordinary period of growth related by doubling the existing capacity of the electrical system to meet new customer demands over the next 10 years. In addition to the expansion, the COO will work to ensure new renewable resources are added to meet the City's and State’s climate goals. The COO is responsible for forecasting service requirements and for planning, organizing and directing assigned resources of the electric utility division in order to meet those requirements. This includes developing and administering the department operations and capital improvement budgets. The City of Santa Clara Human Resources Department is seeking collaborative, innovative, enthusiastic individuals with great interpersonal skills to deliver high quality services that meet the community’s needs.  The City is looking for an experienced professional to manage the Citywide Occupational Health and Safety Program. The successful candidate must effectively multi-task, have exceptional communication skills, considerable initiative, high capacity to work demands, and work successfully independently and in a team environment while maintaining the highest degree of confidentiality, trust and ethics.  Experience in the public sector is desirable.  

The Position: 

The Human Resources Division Manager will be responsible for managing and administering the City-wide Occupational Health and Safety Program to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations. The incumbent will provide expertise and experience with industrial safety programs including but not limited to: lock out tag out (LOTO), confined space entry, machinery safety, fall protection, hazardous materials, commercial vehicle operation programs, and other industrial safety program elements.  The ideal candidate will have experience developing, administering and evaluating Cal/OSHA programs and have strong technical knowledge in occupational health and safety.   This position will manage the City’s workers’ compensation program.

This position requires experience interpreting occupational health and safety regulations across various work sites and job functions. The incumbent will be expected to provide guidance and collaborate with Departments that have various work sites, including general office spaces, electric and water and sewer utility work, general field work, work along creeks and waterways, work in heavy industrial settings, traffic and commercial vehicle operations and emergency response.

In addition, this position provides: City-wide safety policy and program development, provides training, ergonomic evaluations, conducts inspections, investigates incidents, accidents, and claims, oversees safety training programs.  This position will manage one Management Analyst and Senior Human Resources Technician.

General responsibilities include: 

• Develop, administer, and evaluate the Citywide safety program
• Understand, interpret, and apply City, State and Federal laws, rules and regulations pertaining to employee safety
• Perform safety audits and analysis of department near-miss and injury claims
• Serve as the primary liaison between the City and CAL/OSHA and other regulatory agencies
• Maintain effective communications between the City-wide safety team, department leadership and City management to assess and mitigate worksite risks
• Implement new and improve existing safety programs and strengthen a culture of safety
• Serve as a technical expert and City Safety Officer, including advising departments and track status of corrections of dangerous conditions as a result of safety audits/inspections
• Manage third party safety consultants and third-party workers’ compensation administrator
• Provide management oversight of direct reports  
• Collect and analyze safety metrics data, identify and communicate meaningful leading and lagging indicators and provide program recommendations.
• Oversee, investigate, evaluate, and make timely recommendations on incidents and accidents regarding safety issues in coordination with City policies and procedures
• Collaborate with departments to develop and maintain job hazard assessment (JHA), safe work practices (SWP) or other safety procedures, and safety training matrix
• Maintain accurate and organized records for program needs and requirements.

A certification such as the Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent is highly desirable.

The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services. The City of San Jose, Animal Care and Services Division is seeking Veterinarians to work at the Animal Care Center, including one full-time in either/or, shelter medicine and/or the shelter’s public high quality, high volume spay/neuter clinic. The Animal Shelter Veterinarian may perform all aspects of shelter medicine in a large animal shelter. Duties may include routine spay/neuter surgeries on cats, dogs, and other animals as indicated. This position provides direct care and treatment of homeless animals entering the City of San Jose’s Animal Care Center.
 
In addition, this position is required to diagnose, treat, and/or recommend euthanasia. Registered Veterinary Technicians will be assigned to assist this position with the preparation and post-surgery processes of spay/neuter and other surgical procedures. This is a position reporting to the Shelter Manager of Animal Care and Services. This classification is represented by City Association of Management Personnel (CAMP).

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

•  Directs, coordinates and performs the screening, diagnosis, and basic and emergency medical treatment of animals in the shelter.
•  Performs or supervises the visual monitoring of impounded animals, including those that may be isolated or quarantined for signs of illness or unusual behavior.
•  Performs surgical procedures, including spay/neuters and vaccinates animals to prevent diseases. 
•  Maintains accurate medical records of animals.
•  Effectively communicates the condition and status of animals with staff, public and animal groups. 
•  Advises staff on matters within the veterinary field.
•  Orders, maintains and controls the drugs used at the shelter and in the field.
• Trains appropriate staff in administering first aide and vaccinations to animals, the performance of euthanasia and other paramedical duties.
• Performs and directs staff to perform euthanasia of animals that are irremediably suffering from serious illness or severe injury, as necessary
• Ensures that shelter staff participates in a comprehensive disease prevention program for the animal shelter. 
• Participates in special spay/neuter or vaccination clinics.
• Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; providing technical guidance to staff; ensuring staff are trained; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.
• Ensures compliance of activities to codes and all legal regulations.

Physical Requirements:
Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 50 pounds while handling animals and equipment. Employees may be exposed to cold and hot temperatures, loud noises, odors, dust, air contaminants, blood borne pathogens while using hypodermic needles on animals and may be exposed to animal scratches and bites.

The Position:

2. Building construction trades, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, minor electrical work, building hardware, and/or building security including key and alarm systems.
3. Maintenance, operation, installation, and troubleshooting of diesel and gas engines, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, emergency generators and mechanical equipment found in heavy duty machinery and large buildings, such as manufacturing plants, office buildings, or public building.
4. Operation of street maintenance equipment, spray painting equipment, and the installation of pavement marking materials.
5. Street or storm drain construction and/or maintenance experience.
6. Grounds-keeping, gardening, tree trimming, or landscape maintenance.

Acceptable Substitution: 

Five (5) additional years of progressive experience in any area listed above may be substituted for the required two (2) years of lead or supervisor experience.

License/Certifications: 

All licenses and/or certifications are required at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment, unless stated otherwise.

Position Duties

This position requires flexible availability. Shifts may include morning, afternoon, to evening availability Monday – Sunday. Shift rotations may be required and will be based on the needs of the department. 

Under the direction of the Security Services Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing work focused around supporting safety and delivering de-escalatory security services at any of the 24 SJPL library branches. This position has the unique opportunity to establish and build community trust and safety. The Senior Security Officer will perform duties related to enforcing SJPL Behavior Policy, monitoring and responding to security related incidents at library branches, be proactive in mitigating/deterring criminal activity and damage, performing accurate incident reporting, as well as providing security coaching and training to staff. The Security Officer will monitor inside the library building, as well as the outside perimeter of library building and library parking lot. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Interact with a diverse population of library customers and employees to preserve a safe and inviting community environment; provide customer service to library customers. 

• Patrol multiple library branch locations, including building interior and exterior, to identify and deter illegal activities, report suspicious behavior or dangerous situations, while promoting a positive visual presence.

• Address and deescalate library security incidents in alignment with the library’s Behavior Policy and enforcement of violation guidelines. 

• Ensure a courteous and professional demeanor when dealing with difficult library customers and demonstrate excellent customer service to both customers and all levels of library staff. 

• Determine, using sound judgement, the best means of addressing security situations, including informing customers about library policies, reporting incidents appropriately to local law enforcement, producing accurate documentation/reporting, warning customers of rule infractions or violations, assisting staff with escorting people out, and serving suspension paperwork.

• Investigate and document potentially hazardous conditions and communicate with library facilities, executive management, Police, Fire, and other agencies as appropriate; liaise with the partner University Police Department and San Jose Police Department, as needed.

• Write incident reports of library conduct policy violations, activities, and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences. Maintain security-related records and information.

• Draft library customer suspensions requests and serve suspension paperwork; gather and present data related to incidents.

• Evaluate and recommend revision of security and emergency procedures and policies.

• Interpret, implement, and relay legal statutes, laws, departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.

• Provide security-related trainings to library staff.

• May provide training to contract security officers, monitor effectiveness, and evaluate performance/process improvements; ensure current training of all security personnel is complete.

• Respond to emergencies at any of the branch libraries; ensure accurate reporting and follow up with library executive management; Respond to medical emergencies and may provide first aid or CPR.

• Current CPR and American Red Cross Standard First Aid certification desired but not required time of hire. Training can be provided.

• Bilingual skills preferred.

The salary range for Senior Security Officer is approximately $76,789.44 - $93,300.48 annually. This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to interpret, implement and relay policies, procedures, laws, regulations with the public and partner departments, and possess the ability to mitigate and deescalate conflict.
