ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Library and Recreation Department is comprised of two divisions, Library and Recreation & Childcare, that are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of San Rafael residents. The Department’s mission is to enrich the community through discovery, learning, and play, and strives to maximize the delivery of strategically aligned programs and services to provide the highest value for the community.

The Library Division operates with a $4.4 million budget and 22 full-time employees in fiscal year 2024/2025. The San Rafael Public Library consists of three branches—Downtown, Pickleweed, and Northgate—and is part of the MARINet consortium. Exciting projects include a $3 million modernization of the Downtown branch, set for completion by July 2025, and a $2 million renovation of the Pickleweed branch, with construction beginning in August 2025. Additionally, the City is planning a new, joint Library and Community Center at Albert Park, while also focusing on operational improvements and championing innovative library programs and services.

THE POSITION

The Librarian I/II will perform varied professional library work, including collection development of library materials; development of library services, programs, outreach, and marketing; technical services work; and assisting patrons with basic and complex informational requests.  The Librarian I/II will be proficient with library systems.

• Provide a range of services to patrons, including complex reference and readers' advisory; circulation and patron account requests; and advanced assistance with accessing library materials, technology, and resources.
• Maintain awareness of emerging trends in technology, reference services, and librarianship.
• Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of library programs, events, volunteers, and services.
• Organize and lead outreach visits outside the library at events and to community partners to present and promote library services.
• May evaluate, select, and order books and media items for one or m ore collection areas in the library, and evaluate items for withdrawal from the library collection.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Librarian I:  

• This is the entry-level in the professional librarian series.

Librarian II:  

• Two years of professional library experience at the Librarian I level or equivalent is required

For Both Levels:

• Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish, Vietnamese, ASL, or other community languages is desired, and may be required for some assignments.
• Equivalent to a master's degree in library science, library and information services, or similar curriculum, issued by a college or university accredited by the American Library Association is preferred.  
• Progressively responsible-related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

• While possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License is not required, incumbents may need to report to different job sites and travel to offsite outreach, events, etc.

As a Building Plans Examiner, you will play a vital role in reviewing architectural plans and construction documents to ensure compliance with local and state codes—and contribute to safe, sustainable, and successful development throughout the County of Marin. This position provides non-engineering review of construction and alteration plans for residential, commercial and industrial structures; critically evaluates technical data to detect deviations from legal requirements; supports building permit applicants and design professionals either in person at the counter or via phone or email by answering building code related questions; works with building technicians by answering building code questions and helps move applicants through the permit process; investigates complaints of Building Code or Municipal Code violations and can guide applicants through the permit process and requirements; performs related duties and special assignments that may include sensitive site investigations and report generation related to accessibility compliance or code enforcement, preparation of requested compliance forms, handouts and procedural manuals.

Hybrid schedule: 
The Community Development Agency has embraced a hybrid work schedule that considers that some duties of this position may be performed remotely. However, the successful candidate must be able to report to County facilities for meetings, work assignments, and/or disaster service work upon short notice, as needed and deemed appropriate. During the initial probationary period, the successful candidate may be required to work primarily onsite before establishing a hybrid work schedule.

Minimum Qualifications:
Equivalent to completion of two years of college or technical school training with major course work related to the plan checking, the construction trades or a field related to the work and two years of experience in either reviewing plans for compliance with codes and ordinances or in inspecting a variety of structures for such compliance and conformance to plans and specifications. Additional experience as outlined above may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.

Certificates and Licenses:
Consistent with California State law, certification by the International Code Council (ICC) or equivalent in plans examination, accessibility, or green building must be obtained within two years. Failure to obtain certification within two years may result in release from employment. Certification must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
 
Additional Requirements: Must complete a minimum of 45 hours of qualified continuing education in every three-year period with at least 8 hours regarding disability access requirements.

The Senior Librarian is responsible for a full range of complex librarian duties including classification; cataloging; reference; readers advisory; collection development; program planning, development, and evaluation; outreach and marketing; and service to specialized populations including youth, adults, and/or non-English speaking individuals.  

IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are seeking three dedicated and experienced Senior Librarians to oversee key areas within our library system.  Each Senior Librarian will be responsible for one of the following units:  Children's Services, Adult/Teen Services, or Branch Services.  The ideal candidate will have a solid background in library operations, including collection development, reference services, program planning, and community outreach.  Proven leadership skills are essential, with experience in supervising and training professional and paraprofessional staff while maintaining high service standards.  Expertise in reference services, library technologies, and creating programs for diverse populations, including youth and non-English speakers, will be crucial in meeting the evolving needs of our community.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on capital improvement projects in the Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department or the Public Works Department. The Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department maintains more than 50 parks and operates the largest public marina on the Bay. Engineers in this department work on projects at parks, community centers, recreation centers, the waterfront, pools, camps, and related facilities and infrastructure.

The Public Works Department supports the City’s extensive network of public infrastructure. Engineers in this department work on projects across the city that advance City initiatives such as the Climate Action Plan, Pedestrian Plan, and Vision Zero. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Under general supervision, the Shelter Volunteer Coordinator assists in the planning, organization, implementation and review of the Animal Care Volunteer Program; assists with recruiting, training, scheduling and evaluation of volunteer staff; performs community liaison functions, coordinates public relations activities; humane education programs and performs related work as required.

The candidate will have experience handling shelter animals and be able to train volunteers how to safely handle animals. The candidate will have experience in volunteer program development as well as the ability to analyze volunteer program data for retention. • Designs and develops training and orientation programs in a variety of areas including volunteer program procedures, applicable laws and department policies, techniques for dealing effectively with the public, and the proper and humane handling of animals. 
• Assists with production and update of volunteer training manuals and volunteer job descriptions. 
• Coordinates ongoing training opportunities for volunteers to enhance their skills and keep them engaged; implements a system to provide volunteers with consistent recognition to increase volunteer retention. 
• Coordinates volunteer meetings and annual Volunteer Recognition event. 
• Coordinates and attends meetings with Volunteer Coordinators from other Animal Care Services and volunteer organizations in the Bay Area.
• Maintains good communication with volunteer staff through personal contact, email and newsletters to keep volunteers apprised of changes, accomplishments and opportunities. 
• Represents the Bureau's various programs to the public and news media through public service announcements, conferences, outreach events and personal contacts with community leaders.

License: Possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License.

The City of Newark is currently accepting applications for Police Officer Trainees - Entry Level and Academy Attendees. 

THE POSITION:

The Police Officer Trainee position is an entry level position, requiring no prior law enforcement experience. Applicants are required to possess a valid California Driver’s License, be legally authorized to work in the U.S and be at least 21 years old at time of swear-in. All applicants must possess a strong moral character, as well as good work ethic and maturity. All candidates will be required to undergo comprehensive testing processes to determine their physical and mental suitability for a career in Law Enforcement.

The Police Officer Trainee is a temporary employee.  The trainee attends a P.O.S.T. certified academy.  Upon successful completion of the academy, the trainee will be eligible for appointment to the position of Police Officer.  New Police Officers will receive benefits available to regular employees and will serve an 18-month probationary period.

The Newark Police Department is a modern, progressive law enforcement agency with 59 sworn and 27 professional staff employees. The Position

The City of Fremont is seeking applicants to fill full-time, temporary positions within the Fremont Urban Forestry Service Corps. These positions are paid and have a five-month duration, starting February 3, 2025, and ending June 27, 2025. These positions work five days a week in small cohorts completing a combination of in-class learning and in-the-field service projects.

• Learn and study a variety of topics related to urban forestry, public greenspace, and sustainability.

AHA is seeking a Facilities and Maintenance Technician I to perform a range maintenance and alterations on Housing Authority buildings and facilities, HVAC, and other electrical and mechanical systems; identifying and evaluating construction-related problems; performing installation and repairs on plumbing systems; conducting property inspections, and coordinating with vendors on maintenance replacement and repair projects.
