The Department

The Library and Community Services department is responsible for providing excellent customer service through recreational, educational, and cultural programs for children, adults and seniors. Our facilities include 221 acres of parkland distributed among 13 parks, two libraries, two community centers, two public pools, three childcare centers, two gymnasiums, and one gymnastics center. Included in the parks and recreation areas are tennis and pickleball courts, dog parks, softball diamonds, picnic areas, playgrounds, soccer fields, a skate park, shared use of a performing arts center and open space.  The City of Menlo Park is preparing to open a state-of-the-art new facility that will incorporate a community center, gymnasium, aquatics center, senior center, youth center, and branch library in 2024.

The Position:

The Assistant City Manager works directly for the City Manager in the Office of the City Manager. The Office is responsible for the general management and oversight of Daly City’s municipal operations, including the North County Fire Authority and North San Mateo County Sanitation District. This involves service and coordination to multiple agencies and municipalities.  Additionally, the general management of the operating and capital budgets;
financial planning for the municipal corporation; continued improvement, expansion, or redirection of programs and activities within the organization to meet community needs; recommendation of senior management personnel; participation in labor relations activities; generating public information, facilitating conversation and information exchange with citizens, encouraging community participation; and representing the organization in  
inter-jurisdictional matters with other agencies as designated by the City Manager.

The Department

DEFINITION

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The emphasis of the Administrative Assistant series is on the accomplishment of general clerical and administrative support duties.

Administrative Assistant I

This is the entry level in the series. Employees perform routine duties under immediate supervision.

Administrative Assistant II

The is the journey level in the series. Employees perform both routine and more complex duties under general supervision.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Immediate supervision is provided to the Administrative Assistant I. General supervision provided to the Administrative II and III is provided by the department head of designee. The Administrative Assistant III may lead or supervise assigned staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE

FOLLOWING:

• Maintains a system of files and records.
• Composes correspondence and prepares reports independently or from oral instructions.
• Makes appointments and meets callers.
• Operates various office machines and equipment as required.

In addition, the Administrative Assistant II performs the following duties:

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Parks Division is in charge of planning and maintaining the city’s parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and other landscaping. There are approximately 25 parks and play lots, including Sign Hill Park, which has 60 acres of open space, and Centennial Way Linear Park, a 3-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail. Amenities include Centennial Dog Park, bocce ball courts, an above-ground skate park, a variety of ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, picnic shelters and group picnic areas.
 

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION:

The ideal part-time Park Maintenance Worker will be able to prioritize work and coordinate multiple tasks while working cooperatively with a variety of people, consistently ensuring excellent customer service. Capable of organizing duties, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimal supervision to maintain parks and public facilities according to established standards. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in park and landscape maintenance, as well as an understanding of occupational hazards and related safety practices.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains all types of landscaped areas through mowing, watering, planting, trimming, weeding, and fertilizing.
• Applies insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
• Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, chippers, and related grounds and tree maintenance equipment.
• Cleans and perform minor repairs to park and recreation equipment, buildings, and related facilities; maintains and prepares athletic fields.
• Assists in the maintenance of sprinkler systems; assists in the maintenance and minor repair of power-driven equipment.
• As assigned, works extended or irregular hours.
• Assists in the general cleaning and maintenance of the Corporation Yard.
• Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of experience in parks and landscape maintenance work is preferred. 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license, and a satisfactory driving record.

The Organization

The City of Pacifica is a general law city and operates under the Council/Manager Form of Government. The Department

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s infrastructure and wastewater treatment operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner while providing a high level of customer service and a safe work environment for city employees. The Department maintains parks, playing fields and medians and keeps streets and trails clean and well-maintained. The Department also coordinates the tree program, cleans beaches and coordinates the City Beautification program. 

The Public Works Department is organized into three divisions including Wastewater Treatment Operations, Field Services and Engineering. The Wastewater Treatment Operations includes the operation of the wastewater treatment and water recycling treatment plant and management of the collection system. Field Services oversees the maintenance of city streets, parks, trees, vehicles and public facilities. The Engineering Division manages public infrastructure projects, transportation planning and maintenance and repair of the City’s infrastructure. The Public Works Department is supported by 56 full-time staff with 29 in the Wastewater Division. The Wastewater Division has an annual operating budget of $14 million along with a FY2022-23 CIP appropriation of $ 10.1 million.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• College level course work in chemistry, engineering or related field. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Civil Engineering, Chemistry, or related field is desirable.
• Five years of progressively responsible administrative and supervisory related experience in Wastewater Treatment at a public agency. Extensive experience in operations and maintenance of pump/lift stations highly desirable.

Licenses Required:

Must possess a valid California Class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record. Possession of a current Grade IV Wastewater Collections System Maintenance Certificate as issued by the California Water Environment Association is required.

About the City of San Bruno

Position Summary

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.  

• Certification in personal training or group fitness instruction required (e.g., ACE, NASM, or other recognized certification).  

• At least one year of experience in fitness instruction, personal training, or a related field preferred.  

• Experience in group instruction and one-on-one training is highly desirable. 

Knowledge and Skills

This position requires a knowledge of general fitness principles, exercise techniques, and wellness practices, instructing and motivating individuals or groups in a fitness setting, excellent communication to provide clear instruction and positive feedback and assessing client needs and creating individualized fitness programs. The position also requires ability to operate and maintain fitness equipment safely. 

Special Requirements: 

• Current certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). 

• Fitness certifications (e.g., Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor) from a nationally recognized organization.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques used in performing custodial repair and maintenance; occupational hazards and safety practices and procedures related to the work; and techniques for dealing with the public, City staff, and representatives of contractors in an effective manner. The ideal Building Maintenance Custodian will also have the ability to maintain proper standards of cleanliness in assigned areas; follow written and verbal instructions; maintain basic records; and use materials, tools, and equipment safely and effectively form physical labor, including periodic heavy labor.
