The Authority is currently working to advance multiple stormwater initiatives, such as trash reduction and controls for pollutants of concern, such as mercury and PCBs. The Environmental Stormwater Inspector may support these initiatives. An Environmental Stormwater Inspector also responds to complaints of illegal discharges

Additionally, applicants must meet the following education requirements to qualify:

Group Supervisor I ($34.61/hr-$43.24/hr) - Completion of at least 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university. An emphasis in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

Group Supervisor II ($39.04/hr-$48.83/hr) - Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. A degree in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

Selected candidates must be available to work flexible shifts, including graveyards, day shift, swing shift, weekends and holidays at any of the Probation Department locations. Selected candidates must also successfully pass a background investigation, including fingerprints, medical examination, psychological evaluation, a truth verification test and be free from any physical, emotional or mental condition which might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a Peace Officer. Felony and misdemeanors convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Group Supervisors hired into permanent positions must pass PC 832 peace officer training and complete a 160 hour STC training course within one year of appointment.

There are currently various vacancies in the Probation Department. Depending on qualifications, the vacancy may be filled at the Group Supervisor I or Group Supervisor II level.

Examples Of Duties

Group Supervisors are responsible for:

• Supervising daily activities of youth in confinement.
• Observing and supervising unstable youth.
• Enforcing security and safety measures including searches of youth and their living quarters for contraband.
• May perform housekeeping tasks.
• Providing orientation for newly detained youth.
• Explaining and enforcing rules and regulations.
• Providing transportation for youth from the County's detention facilities to other facilities and medical offices.
• Supervising daily activities such as meals, showers, housekeeping, laundry, yard work, recreation, vocational work crews, and visitation.
• Providing individual and group counseling.
• Leading group discussions and facilitating rehabilitation programs.
• Maintaining daily records of observations, incidents and events.
• Logging information, writing reports and summaries of behavior and maintaining records and files.
• Physically restraining assaultive youth and de-escalating violent behavior.
• Maintaining a safe environment for the youth and staff.
• Being a positive role model and authority figure.
• Participate in staff conferences.

Qualifications

Group Supervisor I: Completion of at least 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university. An emphasis in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

Group Supervisor II: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. A degree in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

• Possession of a class C California driver license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age on or before date of appointment.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States by federal law.
• Must not have been convicted of a felony.
• Must successfully pass a background investigation prior to employment.

TEMPORARY LIBRARY SPECIALIST III, PART TIME

 The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the positions of Temporary Library Specialist III. An energetic and highly motivated individual who possesses excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills is needed. 
 
 This classification provides clerical support for Library operations and programs by receiving and responding to patron questions, performing circulation duties, and performing duties related to the opening and closing of the Library. This classification differs from the lower-level classification of Library Specialist II in that the Library Specialist II performs the more routine duties.

Essential Job Functions:

(May include, but are not limited to, the following):

• Conducts transactions with the public and employees including the acceptance of payments or fees, registration of new library cards, checking library materials in and out using either manual or automated circulation systems, updating patron records, preparation of requisitions, and receiving reports, distribution of documents, data, or information.

WORKING CONDITIONS
 Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper, books, carts and documents weighing up to 50 pounds is also required. Applications are being accepted for the position of Engineering Intern with the City of South San Francisco’s Public Works Department - Engineering Division. This is a non-benefited, part-time hourly/temporary position.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in basic engineering principles and demonstrate proficiency in modern drafting and design practices. They should be familiar with engineering office tools and computer-aided drafting software such as AutoCAD, as well as design and GIS mapping systems.

We are seeking someone who is detail-oriented, highly organized, adaptable, and self-motivated, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

The ideal candidate will have willingness to learn about construction management and inspection procedures and the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations and drafting work. They should be capable of collecting and recording engineering field data with a high level of detail and maintaining thorough documentation. Proficiency in modern office software tools, including PowerPoint, to create professional presentations is essential. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors and the public are important. Flexibility to work varied hours as needed to meet project demands is also required.

San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department

The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department commenced operations on January 13, 2019, and serves the cities of Belmont, Foster City, and San Mateo as a Joint Powers Authority. What You’ll Do

• Interpret and enforce provisions of fire prevention and fire safety laws, ordinances, and other regulations.
• Perform periodic inspections of new and existing buildings, structures and installations requiring fire clearances; identify fire hazards; recommend corrective actions; perform follow-up inspections to see that corrective actions have been taken.
• Investigate complaints pertaining to violation of fire prevention laws, issue correction orders as necessary.
• Investigate fires; secure fire scenes; identify types of fires; investigate causes of fire; collect, prepare, and present evidence; interview witnesses and suspects; write fire investigations; testify in court when required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Cashier

The Cashier receives and receipts cash payments and maintains daily files of validated documents; balances transaction and prepares cash reports daily; does responsible clerical accounting work in maintaining financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; batch balances cash from various City entities; organizes money and sets up daily starting cash drawer; computer posts utility transactions as required; maintains the Petty Cash Fund; answers customer inquiries on account status using computer equipment; issues various parking permits and maintains related files; store, issues, and controls vehicle ignition keys for City pool cars, and records and reports mileage/usage; types routine documents; and assists with various Utility Billing Division activities as required.

Utility Billing Division

Either manually or through the use of computers, as appropriate, does responsible clerical accounting work in the maintenance of financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; interacts with residents through phone, email, and in person; receives and receipts money; prepares records to open, change, maintain or close utility accounts; performs routine arithmetical computations; opening, sorting, and processing mail; operates adding machines; does routine typing of documents and precise computer data entry of financial data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: 

Account Clerk I level: Methods, principles, and terminology used in financial clerical work; and modern office practices.

Ability to:  

Perform clerical work of average difficulty; prepare basic financial reports, maintain journals, ledgers, and complex files; operate adding and calculating machines; perform arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience:

Account Clerk I:  One year of clerical experience involving financial record keeping and general office work; six (6) months of experience using computer spreadsheets is desirable.

Education:  Graduation from high school or equivalent.

The Operations Contract Administrator reports to the Manager, Bus Contracts, and is responsible for the development and compliance of multiple third-party contracts of the San Mateo County Transit District.

• Manage fixed route, paratransit, shuttles, microtransit, and other third-party contracts. 
• Answer inquiries regarding operation from both internal and external customers.
• Investigate, identify and correct operational problems. 
• Develop operational and technical provisions for each service agreement.
• Work with assigned department staff to monitor contract compliance such as monitoring field inspection activity and review reports or writ- ups.
• Design campaigns to encourage superior performance, and providing feedback to contractors for continual improvement, especially in safety-related areas.
• Work directly with private and public entities on route development, scheduling, and reporting on service quality.
• Track budgetary expenditures throughout the year. Prepare monthly reports for assigning performance bonuses or liquidated damages based on contractor performance criteria established in contractual agreements.
• Represent the Bus Contracts Department at consumer advocacy forums, various committee meetings, city council meetings, and SamTrans Board of Directors meetings. Attend meetings with various agencies, both private and public, and city council in development of routes and schedules, coordinates schedule changes with SamTrans and SMCTA planning teams, third-party contractors, other transit providers.
• Collect, organize, and complete monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

• Provide effective team leadership to department staff that incorporates the District’s core values. Provide on-going staff mentoring in application and practice of business ethics while fostering personal growth.
• Review and retrieve information in the Vector EHS Management, Business Intelligence and other District-related databases. 
• Conduct inspections of property and equipment at sites in and around District service area in a variety of weather and road conditions.
• Monitor bus maintenance and substance abuse programs of contractors through frequent random and regular inspections of equipment and records.
• Represent the District at community meetings and serves as SamTrans representative on the multi-agency consortiums.
• Represent SamTrans in contract compliance issues, always keeping the best interests of SamTrans at the forefront of priorities. 
• Collaborate with Accessible Services staff in quality oversight of paratransit service for the senior and disabled community under ADA rules and regulations.
• Perform all job duties independently and with the upmost professional discretion. 
• Responsible for intra-department training in: PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat. Also responsible for general business systems training for department staff.
• Plan and operate special event transportation services for Bus Contracts.
• Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, full time work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:

• Associates degree in transportation, business or related field.
• Four (4) years of management or supervisory experience in bus operations, or management or supervisory experience of consultants, contractors, vendors or contracted services. 
• Must be able to possess a Valid California driver's license.
• Capable of conducting inspections of property and equipment at sites in and around District service area (San Mateo County, Santa Clara County & San Francisco County) in all types of weather and road conditions.

• Bus transportation operations (ideally public transit) experience. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Possess the ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy, thoroughness and independence.
• Able to represent the District in contract compliance issues.

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Chief Building Official to join our team in Millbrae, San Mateo County.  

Reporting to the Community Development Director, you will help lead Millbrae’s growth by directing fieldwork, ensuring compliance with building regulations, facilitating major construction projects, and upholding high safety standards.

In addition to administrative duties, this customer-service-oriented position includes providing education and guidance to residents and contractors, performing hands-on plan checks and building inspections, and overseeing a support team of contracted permit technicians, plan checkers, and inspectors.

Definition: This division head classification is responsible for managing the City’s building inspection activities, enforcing the state building codes and regulations, plan check services and advising builders and homeowners on construction design and standards.

Essential Duties: Depending upon assignment, the duties of the Building Official include:

• Managing and directing the division staff. Through inspections, ensures that all structures comply with applicable state and local laws, codes and ordinances.  Ensuring prompt review of plans for proposed building construction or alterations, and the timely inspection of structures.
• Reviewing and recommending revisions of the City codes to comply with federal, state and local requirements.
• Developing policies and procedures designed to improve plan checking and the code enforcement program. Streamlining permit issuance procedures, when applicable, and developing updated forms as needed.
• Effectively monitoring division workloads to ensure adequate and timely plan checks and building inspections.
• Providing technical assistance and advice to architects, engineers, contractors and homeowners on matters pertaining to building plans, zoning regulations, construction methods, materials, procedures and building and related codes.
• Maintaining a competent and motivated work force by training, developing, disciplining and evaluating the performance of subordinates. Objectively and constructively evaluating the performance of subordinates, promptly apprizing subordinates of how well they are performing and/or in what specific areas they should seek improvement.
• Ensuring financial soundness of the division by developing, justifying and effectively managing the division budget.
• Generating monthly reports for the City Manager regarding building activity and workload, and other reports as necessary.  Maintaining work records related to the development of such reports.
• Responding to and resolving complaints from the public in a tactful and courteous manner.  Investigating problems to determine responsibility and methods for resolution as appropriate.
• Interpreting and making decisions on technical problems related to building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical codes and related federal, state and local laws and ordinances.
• Ensuring that checks and analysis of new construction and building alteration plans for residential, commercial, industrial buildings are done in a timely manner to ensure compliance with codes and policies. Ensuring plan checks accurately identify corrections, corrections notices are prepared and forwarded to applicant, maintaining plan check log for up to date information and current status of the plan check. Approving plans and issuing permits when appropriate.
• Maintaining and developing the electronic permitting and inspection system.
• Maintaining and developing the City street file system.

Special Requirements: Physical agility adequate to inspect construction sites.  Requires physical flexibility and dexterity, including the ability to continually stand, bend, stoop, reach and crouch.  Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, hear voices and operate telephones.  Must have the ability to quickly and accurately see, review, and interpret plans and diagrams and make inspections.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of: Building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical codes and ordinances enforced by the City; principals, practices and techniques of combination inspection, building materials, accepted safety standards; State laws regulating building construction and zoning; precautionary safety and fire prevention methods in occupancy of buildings; building construction and materials, particularly structural construction materials and specialized terminology used in connection therewith; general knowledge of accepted methods of training; and knowledge of the construction industry and of modern supervisory principals and practices.

Ability and skills: To direct the work of others; provide technical supervision and training to division staff; read and

quality control building plans, diagrams, specification and building codes; enforce laws, codes and regulations with tact;

maintain records and prepare clear and concise reports and correspondence; supervise plan checking; analyze facts and exercise good independent judgement; read, interpret and perform analysis of plans for various structures; formulate and apply uniform policies and standards for the building inspection program; deal tactfully and effectively with contractors and the public; learn, retain, interpret and use technical knowledge related to federal, state and local laws related to building codes. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish, maintain and foster cooperative teamwork within the division, within various departments and other agencies that are associated with building construction.

Education and Training Guidelines: Sufficient education and experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of this classification. A typical qualifying background would be four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in combination inspections, including two (2) years at a supervisory level. An Associate of Arts or Science Degree in Building Inspection Technology or a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field is desirable.

Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible full-time experience as a Building Inspector with a Municipal Building Department with at least two (2) years in a supervisory position.

Supervision Exercised and Received: The Building Official supervises the Building Inspector/Plan Checker and the Permit Technician.  The Building Official reports to the Community Development Director. 

License: Must possess and maintain a valid California Operator’s License issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles and a satisfactory driving record.

Certification: Must possess and maintain certifications by the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO): Plans Examiner and Combination Inspector. Must possess, or obtain within one year of employment, certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Building Official. A Certified Access Specialist (CASp) certification is highly desirable. Registration as an architect, civil, or structural engineer is highly desirable.
