About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff. Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Seasonal employees are provided with a uniform.  The start date will be in early/mid-July and the selected individuals will continue working through February 2026.   See Job Description for additional information.

Requirements: Must have the ability to  learn Midpen lands, pertinent laws and regulations and contact, educate and inform the public about the lands and regulations ; administer first aid and CPR; operate and maintain various power tools and equipment; operate two-way radios; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; and other duties as assigned.

Certificates Needed: A valid California driver license is required upon appointment; valid professional rescuer CPR certificate and basic First Aid certificate (Midpen will offer training to candidates who do not possess CPR/First Aid certificates upon appointment).

Education & Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Six months experience working in a customer service related field.  Some experience or training in a parks settings is desirable.

Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated around regular days/hours of operations.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (Thursdays/Fridays off).  Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits.

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

The Department:
The Parks Division provides planning, development, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of City parks and open spaces. The Recreation Division provides classes and programs for all ages and abilities. We aim to promote the use of safe, clean, and attractive facilities for enjoyment and quality of life for all ages and abilities. The Cemetery Division maintains 33,000 internment sites in a peaceful public park.  
 
The Position:
Providing customer service at Recreation Facility Front Desk (CRC, YAC, Senior Center, Reed & Grant Sports Park, Warburton and ISC Pools). The job responsibilities include data input, processing program registrations, opening and closing the desk reception area and keeping accurate records of daily sales. Daily check in of patrons, adhering to established protocols and ensuring the safety of customers as they enter and exit the facilities. Work assignment shifts will include, days, evenings and weekends.

 As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours.  Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants

The Recreation Office Assistant has an emphasis on performing a variety of clerical and customer service duties at a recreation facility.  An incumbent in this classification is responsible for demonstrating a high level of customer service while performing basic clerical duties including financial transactions, maintaining documents, and assisting others.  Assignments are generally limited in scope, contain fairly routine duties, and are performed within a procedural framework established by higher-level employees.

Typical Duties

Under general supervision:
• Greets employees, visitors, and the public, assisting with routine inquires and requests and providing a high level of customer service
• Answers telephone calls, providing routine information, taking messages, and routing calls to the appropriate destination

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements
• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
• Six (6) months of general clerical or customer service experience; and
• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is desirable

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• As a condition of employment, incumbents will be required to be fingerprinted in accordance with State of California law
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Senior Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs and the upcoming to work at the year-round Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working in aquatics and with children, who wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills! Swimming experience is required. Additional program training will be provided once hired. THE POSITION
The City of Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and experienced Swim Team Coach for Campbell Wave Swim Team, ages 6-18 years old, at the Campbell Community Center. This position reports to the Aquatics Recreation Specialist. 

Salary Range: $17.00 to $25.00 per hour DOQ

Part-Time, Temporary Non-Benefited position

Schedule: Actual work schedule to be determined through mutual agreement with supervisor. Employee may be required to work weekends.

Location: Campbell Community Center, 1 West Campbell Avenue, Campbell

Responsibilities: 

• Swim team coordination with Aquatics Recreation Specialist;  
• Prepares and implements work-outs;
• Tracks and encourages team enrollment;
• Maintains various records;
• Organizes and attends swim meets;
• Evaluates stroke technique;
• Assists with budget preparation;
• Has thorough knowledge of emergency response protocol, risk management and emergency care
• Complies and enforces all City of Campbell and Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department policies and procedures.

In addition, the essential functions of employment include:

• Assistance in developing, organizing and supervising daily operations and practices;
• Assistance in evaluating Campbell Wave swim team program;

About the Position:  The incumbent will be a part of a cohesive team of 15 in the Natural Resources Department, which is part of the Visitor and Field Services service line. The Wildlife Program is comprised of four fulltime program staff, including this position, and an intern. The position is a working supervisor meaning that time is divided between program administration, oversight, and staff development while also managing and advancing District projects. Strong supervisory and project management skills are required, as well as an ability to shift seamlessly between program and personnel management. This position works not only within the Natural Resources Department but is often a liaison with other departments and external agencies to advance larger District programs and projects. Wildlife program staff currently specialize in different subject matter expertise, but cross training is provided and providing back up to one another in differing area is expected. The supervisor manages and assigns program staff to oversee and assist with different projects primarily based on their areas of expertise, but also based on available staffing. The wildlife program covers a broad range of topics including but not limited to: permit administration, wildlife conflict management, special status species monitoring and research.   

The Ideal Candidate:

• Possesses a broad breadth of understanding of wildlife management for wide ranging taxa from large megafauna to micro invertebrates

• Experience in negotiating and securing permits (ideally programmatic permits) from regulatory agencies primarily California Department of Fish and Wildlife and US Fish and Wildlife Service but may include US Army Corps of Engineers or Regional Water Quality Control Board.
• Experience overseeing sensitive status species monitoring, reporting and recovery efforts
• Supervisory experience for multiple staff and consultant biologists, strong leadership skills, and the ability to mentor and grow junior staff
• Is a creative thinker, problem solver and able to juggle competing priorities
• Strong background in project management, from developing project scopes, schedules and budgets to consultant and contract oversight
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team to deliver capital projects while avoiding and minimizing impacts to sensitive natural resources
• Assists staff in designing projects to reduce the need for mitigation, understands mitigation monitoring and reporting, and works creatively to secure mitigation when needed
• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with partner agencies, environmental advocacy groups, scientists and researchers, as well as other staff, boards, volunteers, vendors and the general public
• Strong public speaking skills
• Report writing skills

Work Environment:  This position will report to Midpen’s Administrative Office in Los Altos, CA.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work schedule for this position following successful onboarding. A minimum of three days in the office is required per week.  In addition to working in an office setting to complete project tasks and at various venues across the San Francisco Peninsula to present information at public meetings, the Senior Resource Management Specialist may sometimes work in the field and hike steep terrain and wildland areas with poison oak and wildlife.

Field Work: Fieldwork is integral to this position and dependent on the season and current projects.  Fieldwork will require driving District vehicles in remote areas on dirt roads, working in all weather conditions, and hiking through steep terrain and wildland areas. Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of field conditions, as well as in an office environment.

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in environmental design, natural resource management, ecology, biology, or a related field, and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in natural resource management preferably in parks, open space, or related field, including at least three (3) years of experience supervising staff, consultants, or contractors. A Master’s Degree is desirable. Professional work experience with parks and open space is highly desired.

Licenses & Certifications Required:   Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
