The Position

The Senior Landscape Architect will plan, supervise, and review the work of City Landscape Architect staff. The incumbent will: coordinate and oversee various landscape projects; perform professional landscape architect work in conjunction with the design and preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates for the development and rehabilitation of parks, landscaped areas and street beautification projects; inspect and review the work of developers and consultants for conformance with plans, specifications, and City requirements; prepare and administer grants and give professional advice on landscape matters.

Examples of Job Duties

• Organize and oversee the landscape design and layout of parks, recreational areas, roadway medians and pedestrian ways.
• Plan, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of professional City and contract staff.
• Perform professional landscape architectural work including preparing landscape plans, coordinating master plan development, performing park planning, and preparing related specifications, contracts, and cost estimates.
• Recommend design direction on high-profile urban design of public and private projects that impact landscape design and urban projects within the City.

Under general supervision of the Program Coordinator, staff is responsible for planning and implementing daily age-appropriate activities including crafts, games, songs, drama, storytelling, and supervised play.

A Dance Instructor (Program Specialist) will plan, prepare and instruct recreation activities. Activities may include art, cooking, dance, pre-school program and other program areas. Programs are designed for children ages 4-17 (primarily 5-12) years of age.

Dance programs may include ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballroom, folkloric, salsa, and rhythmic international styles.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (These duties are a general description and are not all inclusive.)

• Develop and submit lesson plans including class content and material needs.
• Lead organized activities to develop and strengthen youth academic, recreational, and social skills.
• Plan lessons and activities so they are appropriate to students with various abilities.
• Ability to requisition supplies and/or purchasing program supplies within City guidelines
• Evaluate and provide constructive feedback on the activities, camps and events
• Conduct creative and safe class meetings; instruct students on the safe and proper use of supplies, tools, and equipment
• Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facilities and equipment
• Interact professionally and appropriately with parents, students and staff
• Communicate with supervisor regarding classroom needs
• Attend staff meetings and trainings
• Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by a program coordinator or Recreation Supervisor. The Program Specialist may supervise a part-time aide and/or "counselor in training" in a classroom environment in daily activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age
• Different program areas will have different skills and knowledge requirements for the position; check with Recreation Supervisor. (For example: 6 ECE unites required for pre-school instructor)
• One school year teaching experience
• At least one year's experience working with children in an academic setting
• Must be willing and able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• Must be able to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion and significant awareness of confidentiality
• Must effectively communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)

Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of complex skilled irrigation, grounds mainten­ance and landscape tasks in accordance with District policies and procedures; works indepen­dently and exercises judgment; ensures daily workload is carried out through individual and cooperative efforts; performs preventive maintenance of District-owned properties; and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of technical duties to ensure accurate and timely data entry and processing of various financial records; documents financial transactions in general ledger accounts; reconciles bank, accounting and payroll data; analyzes journal
• Develops and implements plans for daily/regularly-scheduled park irrigation maintenance; installs, repairs and maintains irrigation equipment, as necessary.
• Establishes water budgets for each park facility; audits and calculates park/facility water usage, analyzes and interprets data and provides monthly reports.
• Investigates and develops new methods and/or improvements to existing methods that result in effective management and conservation strategies of limited water resources.
• Evaluates and makes recommendations, provides technical expertise to District staff, and provides reports to supervisor regarding water conservation objectives.
• Provides irrigation/water management training to staff.
• Assists in the design and makes water usage/conservation recommendations for new parks/ rehabilitation projects.
• Assists in seeking grants for water efficiency devices.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• May be required to drive District or personal vehicle.
• May provide technical work guidance to Groundskeepers, contractors or temporary staff; participates in prioritizing irrigation/maintenance/water conservation workload and monitoring work of other employees for completeness, accuracy and conformance with departmental standards; provides information, instruction and training on work processes, proper uses of equipment, and safe work practices.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED equivalent and two years of pertinent experience in installing and maintaining landscape irrigation systems; or an equiva­lent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations to other employees and visitors.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Certificates and Licenses:  

• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. You'll operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repair.

Our two overnight camps are located near South Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school, and one (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance.

State of California Drinking Water Treatment Certifications (Grade 1 or 2) desirable. JOB DESCRIPTION

The Tiny Tots Instructor will teach assigned classes of pre-school children ranging in ages from 18 months to 5 years old in enrichment, recreational and educational based programming (Tiny Tots Aide will assist).

Program Assistant - Receptionist

Salary Range: $18.52 - $30.68/hour, depending on experience.

DEFINITION

Perform a wide variety of general clerical and/ or operational support duties at the Danville Community Center and/ or Senior Center. Incumbent serves as the facility receptionist, assisting with customer service-related questions and issues, and directing callers and visitors according to established procedures.
 

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position.
• 0-20 hours per week; not-to-exceed 950 hours per calendar year.

SUPERVISION

Direct supervision is received from the Administrative Assistant with indirect supervision from the Recreation Superintendent. May exercise supervision of part-time personnel and volunteers as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:

• Serve as first point of contact with the public; responds to information requests regarding services, classes, and events offered by the Town by email, in person or over the phone.
• Perform a wide variety of routine office duties to support department operations including filing, preparing basic reports, and program registration.
• Register participants, and support facility reservations using Active Net software.
• Performs cash handling duties, process payments, and issue receipts. 
• Assist in proofreading the Activity Guide and other marketing materials.

Experience:

One (1) year of experience performing standard clerical and secretarial duties. Prior experience as a receptionist in a related field preferred.

Education:

The equivalent of the successful completion of the twelfth grade; some college experience preferred.

A Responsible individual is needed to maintain and enforce proper city procedures and policies in our parks, parking lots and ball fields.   Park monitors will perform park inspections and enforce park policies, supervise patrons, renters and daily facility management. Park monitors and parking lot attendants must stand firm on policies, control diverse situations and always possess a friendly disposition and professional demeanor.  Park monitors and parking lot attendants must also have the ability to communicate and respond to customer service concerns, handle all weather conditions and be reliable with a strong work ethic and personal integrity. Park monitors and parking lot attendants will be required to wear a city uniform while on duty.
