This is the full journey level class within the Parks and Facilities Maintenance Worker series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Parks and Facilities Maintenance I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned.  Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level or, when filled from the outside, have prior experience. This class is distinguished from the Senior Parks and Facilities Maintenance Worker in that the latter performs the most difficult and responsible duties assigned to class, including providing lead supervision to subordinate Parks and Facilities Maintenance Workers

The Department

The Finance Department provides accurate, transparent, complete, and timely financial information to support the City’s operations while ensuring South San Francisco long-term fiscal sustainability. These are seasonal positions, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) that receive no City benefits.  Job training is anticipated to begin the week of June 23, 2025 and this assignment will run through September 30, 2025 at the latest.  Shifts will average 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week.  This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working for one of the finest departments in the State.

This position is fully funded through the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MPWA) and will directly support the mission of wildfire preparedness and mitigation, and community safety.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Fire Department is seeking customer service and public safety focused individuals to join the wildfire mitigation team. Under supervision, inspectors will perform a variety of wildfire prevention duties with a focus on one-on-one education via property wildfire risk evaluations.  The Inspector’s efforts will support resident compliance with City and State Fire codes.

The customer-service oriented positions will support the City’s and Marin Wildfire Fire Prevention Authorities (MWPA)’s goals. The ideal candidate will be able to connect and inspire individual action among our diverse community by explaining complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways.  Inspectors will utilize tablets and other technology to document findings and interactions in the field.

Our highly qualified candidate will be able to work effectively in small teams or independently and clearly communicate wildfire safety-related information to residents from various backgrounds.  We are looking for people who have sound judgment and can communicate effectively with others.  They will need to be able to follow both verbal and written instructions, engage effectively with the public and work harmoniously with our team. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):    

• Perform defensible space inspections and wildfire risk evaluations in accordance with San Rafael Municipal Code 4.12.
• Investigates public and referred public agency complaints.
• Provide guidance to residents on suggested and required home hardening and defensible space strategies. 
• Provide residents with appropriate support resources and programs.
• Increase awareness, knowledge and actions implemented by individuals and communities to reduce human loss and property damage from wildfires.
• Collects, enters, maintains, and disseminates data pertaining to fire prevention; reconciles reports, files and records.
• Composes letters and reports based on field notes.
• Collect and input data and images into electronic devices.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Communicate clearly and respectfully to residents and stakeholders.
• Learn and apply City and State Fire Codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
• Provide clear and concise written reports free of grammar and spelling errors.
• Utilize personal computers, tablets, and related software including the Microsoft Office Suite, mapping, and database tools.
• Independently conduct fire (defensible space) inspections.
• Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques.
• Be self-motivated, work independently to complete assigned duties and responsibilities in a timely manner.
• Interpret and explain fire prevention services, policies and procedures.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with stake holders to ensure that assigned fire prevention coordination efforts are successful.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

• In accordance with State legal requirements, applicants must be at least 18 years old by the application filing deadline.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent and any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
• A background in customer service or public service.
• Ability to speak, write, and read Spanish is desired but not necessary.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS:

All City of San Rafael employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).  Employment in the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.  Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.

Facilities Maintenance Technician II (journey-level class in the classification series)

Responsible for performing the full range of maintenance duties at City buildings and facilities in order to ensure that all are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for City and public use. Incumbents are responsible for performing maintenance and alterations on buildings and facilities, electrical and mechanical systems, identifying and evaluating construction-related problems, and performing installation and repairs on plumbing systems. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from Senior Facilities Maintenance Technician in that the latter is responsible for technical and functional supervision of lower level maintenance staff and is capable of performing the most complex duties assigned to the series.

Senior Facilities Maintenance Technician (advanced journey-level class in the classification series)

Responsible for providing lead supervision and training to facilities maintenance staff. Incumbents regularly work on tasks that are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgment, including performing the most complex duties required to ensure City buildings, facilities, and grounds are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for public use. Responsibilities include training, developing and scheduling Facilities Maintenance Technicians, inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner, and performing a wide variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of City buildings, facilities and grounds. Positions in this classification rely on experience and judgment to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the assigned section. The work involves problem-solving of unique issues or increasingly complex problems without precedent and/or structure. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver work products.

Positions in the Facilities Maintenance Technician class series are flexibly staffed and positions are normally filled by advancement from the previous level; progression to the next level is subject to management approval and is dependent on the incumbent (i) performing the full range of duties assigned to their current level, and (ii) acquiring the knowledge, skill, and experience necessary to meet the minimum qualifications for the next level of the series.

About the Position

After School Program Technician I's work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist II. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19-29 hours per week.

The Position: Under general supervision, this position involves organizing, leading, and coordinating a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational and educational activities for an Afterschool Program. This role is classified as Temporary Part-Time to support both seasonal and year-round recreational programs.

On April 29, 2025, Suisun City Council approved a new contract between the Suisun City RPM Department and the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD). This agreement expands after school programming to include to grades TK-5 at Dan O. Root Elementary and Crescent Elementary Schools, making the Suisun City RPM Department the sole provider of after school services at both locations. The City of Sebastopol is looking for a respectful, compassionate, empathetic Police Officer Trainee. The selected candidate must be currently enrolled or enrolled at a future date as a self-sponsored recruit in a certified Peace Officer Standards & Training Council (P.O.S.T.) Police Academy. The Police Officer Trainee is a non-sworn, training-level classification requiring no prior law enforcement experience. The incumbent performs a variety of entry-level police support duties in a learning capacity. The selected candidate will assist and observe Police Officers and civilian police personnel.

The successful candidate will attend the Police Academy to obtain a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate of Completion, and perform related work which may require public contact but not the enforcement of laws. Police Officer Trainees attend a POST certified Police Academy, which follows a standardized curriculum in order to provide them with basic training in various aspects of policing, many of which are prescribed by law and/or statute.

The Police Academy training is designed to provide the candidate the necessary skillsets to prepare them for consideration for promotion to a probationary Police Officer position within the City and begin the Sebastopol Police Department’s Field Training Officer program.
