What You'll Do

• Select, supervise, train, motivate and evaluate assigned personnel; develop and implement action plans to address work deficiencies.

The City of Brisbane is currently recruiting for non-sworn Police Officer Trainee candidates. This is for individuals that have no prior law enforcement experience and have not received POST certified police academy training. Trainees are paid while attending a POST-certified Police Academy. About the Position

The City of San Carlos is seeking a full-time Associate Engineer in our Public Works Department. This position performs professional and technical civil engineering work in support of the City’s public works and private development projects. Responsibilities will range from simpler projects and to more complex ones. Employees in this job class provide general engineering support and direction to a variety of public and private projects. Projects worked on may include civil works projects including: roads, drainage, grading, buildings, water and wastewater pipelines and treatment facilities, tanks, generators, parks and landscaping, bike paths, environmental mitigation and other related subjects.

The Associate Engineer is distinguished from the Assistant Engineer by the level of experience in the field of municipal engineering and the level of job knowledge.  This is a more specialized class wherein incumbents are charged with performing a wide variety of complex engineering assignments and having a much broader range of knowledge, skills and abilities.

Employees in this classification work under general supervision of the Principal Engineer. The Public Works Maintenance Leadworker performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of sewer infrastructure, road ways, sidewalks, and storm conveyance system. The Leadworker assigns and participates in the work of maintenance crews, operates power driven equipment, and performs related work as required.   This position is responsible for lead supervision of a sewer, street, storm or traffic safety maintenance field crew. This is a full-time position with benefits and a compensation schedule range of $6,339 - $7,529 per month. This position works a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. Definition

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in connection with the construction, maintenance, and repair of City buildings and other facilities; and performs related duties as assigned. This position is distinguished from other maintenance classes in its specialization in building construction and maintenance, utilizing skills in one or more of the building trades.

Typical and Important Duties

• Constructs, remodels, and repairs a variety of buildings and structures, such as walls, partitions, doorways, counters, stairways, plumbing, roofs, and floor coverings.
• Builds and/or installs cabinets, shelving, bookcases, molding and other items involving finish carpentry.
• Performs other crafts-related work in connection with the construction, alteration, and repair of buildings and related facilities.
• Inspects work sites to take dimensions, prepare estimates of time and materials to lay-out work. 
• Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and catalogues
• Maintains work orders, services records, time logs
• Prepares drawings and specifications for assigned projects.

• May direct the work of other workers on a project or relief basis.

Essential Job Function

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and completion of an accredited four-year apprenticeship program in construction field.

Licenses and Certificates

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. May be required to qualify for and obtain a Class “A” or “B” driver’s license, and, therefore, become subject to the Department of Transportation’s random drug and alcohol testing program.

Department of Public Works

The City of Half Moon Bay Department of Public Works seeks a qualified individual to perform a variety of professional level duties and responsibilities in support of the Engineering Division and functions including research and analysis for design, land development and capital improvements; to provide information and assistance to applicants, developers, consultants, the general public, and outside agencies and organizations regarding City codes, policies, standards and processes related to engineering, building and capital projects; and to participate in planning and implementation of projects.  The core services of the Public Works Department are to promote safety, livability, and sustainability through effective management of streets, parks, facilities, and utilities.  The department is also dedicated to excellence, integrity, and environmental stewardship.  For more information about the Department of Public Works please visit the department website.  

The Engineering Division is responsible for review of private development, issuance of applicable permits, assisting with environmental reviews, coordination with other divisions/departments, consultant engineers, and other utility providers in the design and construction of new public and privately funded projects and infrastructure.  The division identifies capital improvement needs in consultation with other divisions and departments, coordinates with non-City utility providers on design and implementation of the CIP, and oversees design, permitting, bidding, and construction of those projects.  The division is also responsible for managing the Traffic Safety Committee, related traffic safety regulations.

This position is responsible for performing entry level professional civil engineering work related to the design, construction, inspection, and coordination of a variety of public works projects as well as review and permitting of private development projects.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Assistant Engineer: $7,950 - $9.663 monthly DOQ

Holidays: 14 paid holidays per year.

Vacation: 12 days (96 hours) annually.

Administrative Leave: 12 days (96 hours) annually.

Sick Leave: 12 days (96 hours) annually.

Retirement: PERS Classic employee receives 2% at 55; single highest year and PEPRA employee receives 2% at 62, with highest 3 years. Classic employees pay 7% employee contribution and PEPRA employees pay half the normal costs (currently 6.5%). The City of Half Moon Bay does not participate in Social Security, except the required Medicare.

Health Insurance: Employee can choose from medical plans provided through CalPERS. The City provides an allowance of $1,900 per month, which can be used for medical premiums.  Any unused portion may be taken as additional compensation. Dental and Vision is fully paid by the City up to family coverage.

Hybrid Work Schedule: Successful candidate may be eligible for hybrid work schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of experience & training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Education

Possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in civil engineering or a related field; and

Experience

Assistant Engineer - No experience is required, although some practical technical experience or an internship is desirable.  

Licenses and Certificates

Assistant Engineer - Possession of a valid California Class "C" Driver's License is required at time of appointment and for duration of employment.  Possession of an Engineer Training Certificate is preferred.  Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California is strongly encouraged within one year of hire.  

Other Requirements

Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.

The Building Inspector Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior position will be located subject to business need. This position will provide inspection support at a variety of City of San José facilities, including the Airport, Regional Wastewater Facility and Central Service Yard.  

Key responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform a variety of engineering duties in support of capital improvement projects including road construction, storm drains, sewers, traffic systems and related construction projects.
• Perform design and engineering studies for capital improvement projects, including the preparation of project plans, research project design requirements, drawing specifications, cost estimates and project schedules.
• Preparation of Request for Proposals, including scope of work for a variety of engineering projects and studies. Management of engineering consultant procurement process and oversight of engineering consultants.
• Manage advertisement and award of construction projects including the review of contract bids and proposals; management of construction contracts including participating in the review of contractor work activities; ensures contract compliance with contractual obligations, prepares and reviews change orders and manages contract close out and acceptance.
• Coordinate projects and assignments with businesses, utilities, special districts, and other City departments. Respond to complaints and assists in solving problems related to City projects and policies; provides information to property owners, contractors, engineers, consultants, and the general public on conformance to standards, plans, specifications, and costs.
• Conduct or oversee field inspections or investigation of capital projects during construction; ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations; provides resolutions to construction problems; conduct or oversee survey, mapping, and data collection.
• Performs private development plan review.
• Perform a variety of engineering complex calculations and computation; prepare project cost analyses; prepare estimates of time and materials costs.
• Investigate field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations.
• Develop revised design and construction standards for public works structures and appurtenances.
• Prepare estimates and feasibility reports for new or modified services and structures.
• Prepare special engineering studies and reports.
• Prepare applications for state and federal grants.
• Review and provide plan check comments for private development applications and building, grading, and encroachment permits in accordance with City codes, ordinances, and policies. Review of required studies and coordinates with consultants to provide peer review of special studies.
• Exercise professional engineering judgment in accordance with current accepted practice of civil engineering and appropriate laws and codes.
• Maintain a variety of public works department and engineering division program and project files and records.

The Department

The South San Francisco Public Library is a full-service library committed to delivering quality services to a diverse community.  Library services are available at three sites, including the Main Library (901 Civic Campus Way), the Grand Avenue Library (306 Walnut Avenue) and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (520 Tamarack Lane).  Lifelong literacy services are provided by Project Read at the Main Library and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (GMCLC).
