The Department:
The Recreation Division provides classes and programs for all ages and abilities. We aim to promote the use of safe, clean, and attractive facilities for enjoyment and quality of life for all ages and abilities. 

The Position:
The Recreation Specialist is the highest classification in the Recreation Leader series.  An incumbent in this class possesses technical expertise in a specialty such as cultural arts, physical fitness, drama, older adults, athletics, therapeutics, music, pre school, day camp, teen activities, and youth sports and is responsible for the planning, development, and supervision of a specialized activity phase of recreation programs .  With general policy and departmental philosophy guidance from a supervisor, an incumbent exercises sound independent judgment in the performance of duties. The Recreation Specialist is distinguished from the Recreation Instructor in that the former has an emphasis on developing and supervising large groups of children in specialized recreation activities while the latter is responsible for developing class curriculum and teaching classroom activities.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

Typical Duties

Each position in this classification may not include all the duties listed below, nor do the examples cover all duties that may be performed.
Under direction:
• Plans, initiates, organizes, and supervises an extensive program of recreation activities in an area of expertise
• Investigates, recommends, demonstrates, and explains techniques, procedures, materials, equipment and supplies used in the special activity program
• Prepares program instructions and materials ; develops projects for inclusion in the community wide recreation program
• Receives and reviews reports, suggestions, and complaints from staff and program participants
• Maintains records and accounts of attendance, inventory, financial charges and receipts, personnel, special events, accidents, and other matters requiring systematic recording
• May supervise and train lower-level personnel in the activities comprising the specialty
• Performs other related duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements
• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
• One thousand (1000) hours of experience in recreation leadership at the level of Recreation Leader III in general recreation programs such as day camp, sports, teens, older adults, and theater; and
• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application

Possible Substitutions
• Completion of sixty (60) semester units of coursework, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university, preferably with an emphasis in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field may be substituted for the required experience

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of the following is desirable:
• A valid California Class C driver's license
• A valid American Red Cross First Aid certificate

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• As a condition of employment, incumbents will be required to be fingerprinted in accordance with State of California law
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment

The City of Campbell's Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for Public Safety Dispatcher!

Under general supervision, to receive and transmit routine and emergency telephone, radio and computer messages; to keep a variety of police records; and to do related work as required.

Typical Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Answers all telephone calls promptly and courteously;
• Makes rapid and accurate determination of the nature of each call and the degree, severity, and location of any emergency;
• Refers non-emergency callers to the appropriate agency or other resource;
• Questions emergency callers to elicit complete and accurate information necessary for emergency response and enters information in the computer-aided dispatch system;
• Gather information using multiple audio and visual resources;
• Selects emergency response units in exact accordance with established user agency policies and procedures;
• Promptly and properly alerts response units in exact accordance with user agency policies and procedures;
• Maintains current status on all field units;
• Closely monitors any situation presenting a potential danger to the life or safety of field personnel and takes immediate action to dispatch assistance as required;
• Maintains radio contact with field units and enforces proper channel control, discipline, and courtesy;
• Maintains records and logs reflecting the outcome and details of emergency incidents;
• Participates in training and evaluation activities to establish and maintain a high level of proficiency;
• Accesses automated law enforcement systems, inputs data and information, and makes accurate entries into automated record files in accordance with applicable laws, statutes and Department of Justice requirements; and 
• Builds and maintains positive working relationships with coworkers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.

Knowledge of:

• Standard communications principles and methods for public service dispatch activities;
• Standard office procedures and methods, including filing and the operation of common office equipment;
• Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Ability to:

• Communicate clearly and concisely with persons under extreme emotional stress;
• Operate a computer aided-dispatch system;
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in their course of work including the general public;
• Type into a computer terminal at a net rate of 40 words per minute;
• Quickly learn the policies, procedures and performance standards pertaining to the work; hear accurately and distinctly;
• Speak clearly and precisely; write legibly; work in a team-based environment and achieve common goals;
• Work in a confined area, wearing a headset which restricts physical movement about the work area;
• Work in a highly structured environment where all communications are recorded or documented and reviewed as public record;
• View multiple video display terminals for extended periods of time in low variable light conditions;
• Distinguish and interpret the meaning of colors on video display terminals;
• Distinguish and comprehend simultaneous communications from several sources;
• Work continuously or uninterrupted as required, standing or sitting for extended periods of time;
• Perform a high standard of customer service, professional conduct and civic responsibility.

Hours of Work: Public Safety Dispatchers typically work 12 hours shifts, with 4 work days one week and 3 work days the following week.  Shifts available area a day and night shift, or variation, that can rotate every six months.  Dispatchers may have to work weekends, holidays and overtime. 

Special Conditions: Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, on schedules that may include Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and non-traditional work hours; and a willingness to work overtime as required.

Other Requirements: Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment.  All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and may include polygraph and/or psychological testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:

• Graduation from an accredited high school (GED may be substituted for a high school diploma); plus
• One year of successful full-time responsible experience performing work where the essential functions of the job involved public contact, computer usage or heavy telephone traffic.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR APPLICATION:

• Typing Certificate certifying a minimum of 40 wpm dated within one year of the application date; AND
• Criticall Dispatcher test with a passing score dated within one year of the application date; OR
• P.O.S.T. Entry-level Dispatcher Test with a T-score of 50 or above.

The P.O.S.T Entry-level Dispatcher Test and the Criticall Dispatcher will be held at the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training at Coyote Valley. LATERAL APPLICANTS:
Lateral applicants that are currently employed as a Public Safety Dispatcher (non-probationary) do not need to submit proof of test scores, however a California POST Dispatcher Academy Certificate is required.

THE POSITION
The City of Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and experienced Swim Team Coach for Campbell Wave Swim Team, ages 6-18 years old, at the Campbell Community Center. This position reports to the Aquatics Recreation Specialist. 

Salary Range: $17.00 to $25.00 per hour DOQ

Part-Time, Temporary Non-Benefited position

Schedule: Actual work schedule to be determined through mutual agreement with supervisor. Employee may be required to work weekends.

Location: Campbell Community Center, 1 West Campbell Avenue, Campbell

Responsibilities: 

• Swim team coordination with Aquatics Recreation Specialist;  
• Prepares and implements work-outs;
• Tracks and encourages team enrollment;
• Maintains various records;
• Organizes and attends swim meets;
• Evaluates stroke technique;
• Assists with budget preparation;
• Has thorough knowledge of emergency response protocol, risk management and emergency care
• Complies and enforces all City of Campbell and Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department policies and procedures.

In addition, the essential functions of employment include:

• Assistance in developing, organizing and supervising daily operations and practices;
• Assistance in evaluating Campbell Wave swim team program;
• Documentation including daily participant attendance;
• Planning, execution and evaluation of swim meet participation;
• Professional interaction and effective communication with children, swimmers and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum age at time of hire is 18 years old.
• Two (2) or more years of swim coaching experience
• Valid California Driver’s license.
• Current CPR certification.
• Safety Training for Swim Coaches or Lifeguard Training certification.
• TB Clearance.
• Fingerprint clearance (Department of Justice background check). The City of Campbell will schedule fingerprint appointment and encumber cost upon hire.

Highly desirable, but not mandatory upon hiring: 

• Professional certification(s), including American Swim Coaches’ Association or USA
• Swimming Coaching, CPR, Safety Training for Swim Coaches or Lifeguard Training.

THE POSITION
Under the general supervision of the Campbell Community Center Supervisor, the Building Attendant oversees proper use and rental activity at the City of Campbell Community Center and other City facilities. The Building Attendant assignments include working special events at various City facilities. The Building Attendant performs basic custodial duties (moving tables, chairs, set-up AV equipment, set-up athletic equipment, moping, sweeping, empty trashcans, etc.), ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of the facilities. The Building Attendant work schedule is primarily during the late afternoon/evening hours Monday - Friday, and on weekdays (both day/evening shifts). Occasional week-day shifts may be available.

Salary Range: $15.50 to $18.00 per hour DOQ
Part-Time, Temporary Non-Benefited position

Schedule:  Approximately 8-20 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours

Closing Date: Open Until Filled

Responsibilities: 

• Provides customer service to community center renters, class instructors and the general public at the Campbell Community Center;
• Opens buildings for scheduled events, performs set-up/take-down of tables, chairs, portable staging, dance floors, AV equipment, and other set-up equipment; supervises evening and weekend activities at the Community Center;
• Performs custodial tasks (emptying trash containers, cleaning tables, chairs, and restrooms, sweeping floors, etc.) as assigned. 
• Are responsible for the security of the site, as well as providing good public and customer relations;
• Additional responsibilities, as needed, may be assigned.

Qualifications: 

• Must be 18 years of age and equivalent to high school graduation.
• Must have a valid California Driver's License. 
• Must demonstrate the ability to work independently, follow oral and written instructions, display courteous public relations, and demonstrate safety and good judgment. 
• Previous experience in recreation, building maintenance, or customer service work is preferred.
