POLICE ASSISTANT

Salary Range: $20.84 to $32.41/hour; non-benefitted position, DOE

DEFINITION

The Police Assistant is a civilian, non-sworn, uniformed position that is responsible for a variety of customer service-based interactions with the community. Duties include non-hazardous enforcement of municipal parking laws and regulations as well as clerical front counter tasks related to phone and walk-in contacts at the police department.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Lieutenant and Traffic Sergeant. Projects are assigned, and the person usually works with very little supervision. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

• Handle confidential administrative duties at the front desk. Greets telephone callers and visitors to department; screens and handles inquiries of a general or specific nature; takes messages.
• Takes information from the public regarding thefts, accidents, lost and found property, and other incidents that do not require the presence of a sworn law enforcement officer at the scene; completes standard police reports for review by staff supervisors or sworn supervisory staff.

• Perform a variety of research & staff work; prepare reports.
• Maintain records using computers and various filing systems.
• Coordinate Parking Permits for business employees.
• Enforces parking ordinances and the Town’s Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Program, issues parking citations; follows-up on complaints regarding abandoned or illegally parked vehicles; issues citations and arranges for the towing or other abatement measures. Receive and respond to complaints and reports of routine parking incidents from the public.
• Respond to public complaint of abandoned vehicles; document and schedule tows for abandoned vehicles; and ensures proper disposition of illegally parked vehicles; patrols city streets and issues citations on vehicles parked in an unlawful manner. Mark vehicles to detect abuse of timed areas.
• Operate computer equipment and two-way radio as related to employment.
• Directs traffic at crash, crime, and/or congestion scenes.
• Investigates and prepares reports on burglary, petty theft, lost and found property, missing persons, property damage, accidents, Town Ordinance violations, abandoned vehicles and other incidents.
• Assists with maintaining evidence and property in the Evidence Room. Coordinates receiving and cataloging evidence and found property, maintaining records of property movement, processing, and disposition.
• Assist with transporting, storing, photographing, releasing, or destroying property pursuant to state law and established procedures.
• As required testifies in court.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Perform duties within OSHA standards.
• Must be flexible with hours and available to work some evenings and occasional weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge: 

Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Ability to:     

Effectively communicate verbally and through written correspondence; understand and follow verbal and written instructions, prepare clear and accurate reports, work cooperatively with others contacted in the course of work, handle multiple work requests under pressure, read and interpret maps, type at a speed of no less than 40WPM and have excellent customer service skills. Operation of radio communication equipment is required. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and stand outdoors for extended periods while performing traffic control assignments. Required to wear safety equipment, including a vest, belt, and uniform.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Experience: 

One (1) year of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) experience involving substantial public contact, or the exchange of detailed verbal information, including interpreting/clarifying rules, regulations, policies, or procedures and handling complaints as a primary element of the work performed. Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.

Education:   

High school graduation or equivalent.

Licenses:      

California Driver's License, C.L.E.T.S. certification upon hire.

The Recreation Specialist is a unique position that is primarily responsible for specific projects or long term projects requiring relevant knowledge and expertise.

• Coordinate all aspects of a project
• Set up and maintain project files or computer databases as required
• Provide regular project updates including written reports to project leader in a timely manner

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by the Recreation Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Relevant technical skill, education, experience or expertise
• Ability to establish and maintain productive relations and positive attitude toward others
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Excellent organizational and supervisory skills, be resourceful, flexible and able to work both alone or as a team member
• Must be reliable and be able to provide transportation

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• Must be able to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion and significant awareness of confidentiality
• Must effectively communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, & AED from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.
• Fingerprinting and TB test are required
• Must submit verification of legal right to work in the United States as a condition of employment

The City of Dixon is recruiting qualified Lifeguard/Swim Instructor I/II applicants for the 2026 Aquatic season.

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Senior Lifeguard/Swim Instructor, Lifeguard/Swim Instructor performs a variety of duties to ensure the City of Dixon swimming pool is a safe and enjoyable aquatic facility. Supervises pool patrons, enforces pool rules, performs first aid and emergency rescues, instructs swim lessons, performs cashiering duties, leads recreational activities; performs related and other work as required.

Under the direct supervision of the Aquatic Supervisor and Aquatic Coordinator, the Pool Manager is responsible for overseeing pool activities and staff and managing the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program. This position involves assigning work schedules to the staff. Some evening and weekend hours will be required. Additionally, training, pre-season preparation, and post-season evaluations will require extra time. Mandatory pre-season manager training and all staff in-service training sessions will be conducted before the season begins.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises activities, including, but not limited to, scheduling staff for all aquatic programming; enforces pool rules and regulations; supervises staff and participants; rescues persons in distress and renders First Aid /CPR when necessary; maintains pool records and reports, including program registration and safety reports; follows City policies and procedures; and performs other assigned duties, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:    

• At least three (3) years prior experience as a Lifeguard or Instructor, including experience in supervising and organizing pool operations.

Knowledge of:

• Supervise aquatic staff and oversee daily aquatic activities. 
• Implement aquatic safety techniques and emergency protocols. 
• Manage customer relations, handle money, and enforce pool policies.

Ability to:       

• Demonstrate all skills required for Lifeguard Training.

DEFINITION:

The Music Instructor is responsible for providing quality music instruction to participants of varying skill levels in a positive and engaging environment. This position requires strong knowledge of music techniques and the ability to plan and deliver lessons that meet individual participants’ needs. The instructor will plan, prepare, and implement music lessons tailored to each participant’s abilities and goals, teaching music theory, aural skills, and practical techniques to individuals and groups. They will also prepare participants for performances or showcases as part of the program, select and acquire appropriate teaching materials and resources, and motivate participants to achieve continuous progress. In addition, the Music Instructor will communicate effectively with recreation staff and parents/caregivers regarding schedules, progress, and participant needs, assess participants’ abilities, provide constructive feedback, and maintain progress records. Delivering excellent customer service and representing the City in a professional and positive manner are essential aspects of this role. AHA is seeking to fill the Asset Management Specialist position in the Property Operations Department. The Asset Management Specialist performs a variety of specialized technical work in support of the Housing Authority’s asset management and property operations functions. Conducts operational monitoring and asset management analysis by supporting portfolio performance tracking, capital project planning, compliance reporting, and financial review. Provides responsible and professional assistance to the department team, and performs related work as required.

Experience with LIHTC or HUD compliance, property management accounting and/or asset management, and Yardi software are desirable.
