The Traffic Signal Technician performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks involving maintenance, repair, modification, inspection, and testing of traffic signals, controllers, and street lighting systems.

Examples of duties include:

• Electrical maintenance and repairs on traffic signal, street lighting, and battery back-up systems and equipment
• Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs traffic signal network communication devices, video detection systems, and closed circuit television cameras
• Performs electrical system wiring and installations
• Services generating units, switches, circuit breakers and other electrical fixtures
• Modifies detector loops and changes and repairs traffic signal heads
• Locates underground utilities
• Responds to emergencies or reported malfunctions

Under general supervision, performs professional accounting work involving the City’s various grants, budget process, and other accounting work as required.

DISTINGUISING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a professional level accounting position in the Administrative Services Department.  Under general supervision, incumbents in this class perform the full range of accounting assignments in various areas of governmental, budgeting and accounting for grants.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Duties may include but are not limited to, the following:

• Performs professional accounting work including recording and reporting of financial and budgetary transactions for assigned areas of responsibility.
• Prepares and analyzes computer input/output data, journal entries and budget transfers, and financial reports.
• Prepares periodic reports on various grant programs.

The Department of Public Works is recruiting for a Street Maintenance Worker I/II to perform a variety of manual and semiskilled tasks involving the construction, repair, maintenance, and cleaning of streets, sidewalks, other concrete structures, storm drainage and related Public Works facilities.  The Street Maintenance Worker operates light power driven, hand-held, and "walk behind" equipment.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

• Performs manual and semiskilled work in street excavation and repair, asphalt laying, cold tar patching, concrete work, weed control spraying, street painting, street signing, and flushing, clearing and maintaining sewer and storm drainage pipelines, culverts, and pump stations.
• Uses shovels, rakes, other hand tools, jackhammers, asphalt saws, tampers, packers, dump trucks, rollers and spray equipment in the excavation, building up, patching and surfacing of streets.
• Performs or assists in finished concrete work by excavating and clearing areas, constructing forms, trucking and pouring concrete.  Performs or assists with concrete leveling, floating, and finishing.  
• Removes debris and assists in cleaning and clearing of sewer lines, catch basins, canals, pipelines, and pumping stations.
• Assists in maintenance, repair, or replacement of pumps, motors, valves, gates, and pipelines,.
• Prepares and installs traffic signs and related posts per specifications.
• Places traffic barriers and warning signs and directs traffic.
• Performs street painting and striping per specifications, using a variety of materials and related equipment. 
• Assists in emergency repairs of Public Works facilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Street Maintenance Worker I:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school to provide necessary reading and communication skills;
• Prior experience in the operation of power driven equipment or previous maintenance experience is desirable but not required.

Street Maintenance Worker II:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school.
• Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and construction of Public Works facilities equivalent to the Street Maintenance Worker I.  

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Street Maintenance Worker I:

• Valid California Driver's License
• Must obtain a Class B license prior to passing probation

Street Maintenance Worker II:

• Valid California Driver's License

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, the Electrician performs a wide variety of skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical infrastructure systems and equipment in support of the divisions of the Public Works Department.

• Prepares forms, sets rebar, pours and finishes concrete to repair or construct equipment and small building slabs, foundations, retaining walls, patios, repairs brick and masonry.
• Installs and repairs shake, asphalt shingle, and tar seal roofing.
• Removes and replaces window glass.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Facility Repair Worker II:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school.
• Three years of responsible experience in building repair and maintenance with at least one year of experience in one of the trades.

Facility Repair Worker III:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school.
• Five years of responsible experience in building repair and maintenance equivalent to the Facility Repair Worker II classification at the City of San Rafael.
• Knowledge of building codes and necessary permits related to building maintenance tasks.
• Possess strong computer skills with programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Office.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.

The ideal candidate for Deputy Building Official is a highly skilled, knowledgeable, and dedicated professional with a deep understanding of building codes, regulations, and construction practices. You will have substantial experience in the building inspection field, ideally within municipal or governmental roles, demonstrating expertise in overseeing building inspections, applying building codes, and ensuring compliance with safety, accessibility, and environmental standards. This position requires a demonstrated leader who is able to manage and mentor a team in a productive and forward-thinking manner.

The Senior Building Inspector is a skilled, knowledgeable, and dedicated professional with a proficient understanding of building codes, regulations, and construction practices. You will be responsive and analytical; and be effective in a fast-paced and dynamic settings. You will have 7-10 years’ experience in the building inspection field, ideally within municipal or governmental roles, demonstrating the ability to lead and mentor, expertise in overseeing building inspections, interpreting building codes, and ensuring compliance with safety, accessibility, and environmental standards. You will have relevant certifications in building inspection, such as ICC (International Code Council) Certified Building Inspector, or similar.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Deputy Building Official

• Graduation from high school or equivalent based on courses taken from an accredited educational institution.  Associate of Science degree in Building Inspection or related field is preferred.  
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, including commercial, of which at least two (2) years must be in a supervisory capacity.  

Senior Building Inspector

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent based on courses taken from an accredited educational institution.  
• Associate of Arts degree preferred AND five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, including commercial inspection and/or plan check experience, of which at least two (2) years must be at the full journey level or above.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Both Positions: Maintain a Valid CA driver’s license.

Deputy Building Official

Must maintain ICC certification in at least three of the following areas: commercial building inspector, combination building inspector, electrical inspector, plumbing inspector or mechanical inspector.  These certifications are required at time of hire. In addition, Plans Examiner certification from ICC is required, but may be obtained within 6 months of hire. 

Senior Building Inspector

 Building Inspector certification from International Code Council (ICC) or equivalent is required. CASP certification is highly desirable. Possession of a Commercial Building Inspector or Building Plans Examiner certification from ICC is desirable.  Certification as a Commercial Building Inspector must be obtained within one year of appointment as a condition of continued employment.

Facility and Sports Field Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.
