The City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department is looking responsible, enthusiastic,

and energetic individuals to join our Aquatics Section!

Qualifications:

Must be at least 15 years old and have the ability to obtain a work permit, if under the age of 18. Applicants must have completed and passed the Lifeguard Training class that includes CPR, and AED by June 1, 2025. WSI (Water Safety Instructor Certification) is highly recommended.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to protect lives by using their skills to prevent injury among patrons. This duty does not only include rescuing drowning victims or administering CPR and first aid. Being alert and proactive also helps to prevent dangerous situations from ever occurring in the first place.
• Enforcing the rules fairly and consistently is a close second major duty and could even be considered to be a part of patron surveillance. Help the patrons to keep themselves safe by monitoring and putting an end to dangerous behaviors.
• Maintenance and cleaning tasks are also part of the lifeguard’s duties. These can include monitoring chemical levels in the pool, picking up trash and organizing equipment, or inspecting the facility for unsafe conditions.

Swim Instructor Job Responsibilities:

• The swim instructor is responsible for instructing swim lesson participants in a variety of swim levels.
• This position is also responsible for the safety of the participants in their own class.
• Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed and clean up supplies.
• Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons.
• Submits completed report cards, skills sheets, and attendance information on time.

Position Summary: 

The Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer plays a key role in providing essential fitness instruction and personalized training programs to help individuals achieve their health and fitness goals. Minimum Qualifications: 

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.  

• Certification in personal training or group fitness instruction required (e.g., ACE, NASM, or other recognized certification).  

• At least one year of experience in fitness instruction, personal training, or a related field preferred.  

• Experience in group instruction and one-on-one training is highly desirable. 

Knowledge and Skills: 

This position requires a knowledge of general fitness principles, exercise techniques, and wellness practices, instructing and motivating individuals or groups in a fitness setting, excellent communication to provide clear instruction and positive feedback and assessing client needs and creating individualized fitness programs. The position also requires ability to operate and maintain fitness equipment safely. 

Special Requirements: 

• Current certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). 

• Fitness certifications (e.g., Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor) from a nationally recognized organization. 

The Foster City Police Department is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled individual to join our team as an Police Dispatcher. This position receives police and emergency calls and dispatches police units following prescribed procedures; answers non-emergency calls for public safety and other City departments; performs a variety of general administrative support duties including record keeping, typing, and filing; and performs related work as required.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:  

Education: Possess a high school diploma or a G.E.D. 

Experience: One (1) year of work experience involving public contact which involved using good judgment, tact, and effective written and/or verbal communication skills.

It is desirable, but not a requirement, that the applicant for this position have the ability to type no less than 40 net words per minute. The typing certificate must but be certified and dated within the last 12 months of application.

License or Certificate: 

• Verification of successful completion of the POST Entry-Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery Examination with a minimum passing “T-score” of 50 or higher within the last 12 months. 
• Possess a POST Basic Dispatcher Certificate prior to the completion of the probationary period. This certificate must be obtained and maintained throughout employment within this classification.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Police department will make the hiring decision.

allcove™ https://allcove.org/ is a youth drop-in center model that has evolved from the Head Space Program in Australia and Foundry Program in British Columbia, Canada. PHCD is working closely with Stanford’s Center for Youth Mental Health and Well Being (CYMHWB) leadership who have been instrumental in defining the model for California and successfully influencing the State of California Mental Health Services & Oversight Accountability Commission (MHSOAC) to provide start up grants for five pilot centers around the State. GENERAL INFO

Under general supervision, the Recreation Specialist provides essential support to recreation programs and services by performing custodial tasks, event setup and teardown, program support, and minor maintenance duties at various facilities, including parks and community centers. This temporary, parttime position requires working up to 20 hours per week. The role involves ensuring the facilities are clean, safe, and operational while delivering excellent customer service. Performs other duties as assigned. 

UNIVERSAL POSITION DUTIES (Illustrative purposes only)

· Organize, inventory, and maintain facility materials and equipment.

· Supervise teams/groups of other program staff or volunteers under the direction of Supervisor.

· Assist in organizing and supervising recreational programs in any one or more of the following areas: children, adults, senior citizens, and participants with special needs at playgrounds, community centers, and other recreational areas.

The Town of Colma Recreation Services Department is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders for Summer 2025.  The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors. The City of Burlingame is looking for an On-Call Librarian I/II to join our team!  There are currently openings in the Children's Services and Adult Services departments.  Candidates may use the supplemental questionnaire to indicate if they would like to be considered for Children's Services, Adult Services (Reference) or both.  Hours and shifts will vary depending on department staffing needs.

The Librarian I classification is an entry-level position; the Library II classification is the experienced, journey-level position requiring a higher level of experience and training. The Librarian I/II can be filled at either level depending upon qualifications and experience.

For Children's Services:

This position includes working nights and weekends, as needed.  Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Providing reference and reader’s advisory to children, teens, and parents at the Children's Desk, which requires extensive knowledge of children's literature.
• Planning and conducting programs for children including story telling, book talks, and films to encourage reading, viewing and listening and use of library materials and facilities.
• Compiling lists of materials of interest to children.
• Organizing and conducting class visits for preschool and elementary age children to encourage reading and use of library materials and facilities.
• Planning and preparing exhibits, book lists and displays using creative marketing techniques to promote the library’s collections and services.
• Utilizing library computer systems and databases.

For Adult Services:

This position includes working nights and weekends, as needed.  Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Serving at an information desk; research and respond to reference questions by phone, in person, or electronically.
• Assisting patrons in use of library collections through reference interviews, database, and web searches, reader’s advisory, and instruction in the use of the online catalog, computer software, and other technology that is used in the library.
• Maintaining current knowledge of materials, resources at BPL and throughout Peninsula Library System and refer patrons as required. 
• Promoting library services to generate increased usage.
• Responding to patron complaints and problems.
• Performing other related duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience
Education: A Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program required.

Experience: At least one year professional experience working in a library setting is preferred.  Knowledge of the Peninsula Library System and Sierra ILS  is desirable. Successful public contact experience in a library setting; knowledge of automated systems; basic library reference materials including on-line databases and the Internet; reference interview and research methods; and knowledge of library systems. 

Essential Qualifications

Licenses: Possession of a Class C, California Driver’s License for branch work and school visits. 

Experience: Successful public contact experience; knowledge of automated systems; basic library reference materials including on-line databases and the Internet; reference interview and research methods; and knowledge of library systems. Experience working with children and adults in a library setting is desirable. Knowledge of the Peninsula Library System and Sierra system is highly desirable. 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Working Conditions: Ability to stoop, bend and crouch to retrieve materials and books; lift and/or move books or other materials weighing up to 50-pounds; push/pull carts up to 150 pounds; sit, stand and walk for long periods of time; talk and hear well enough to communicate with patrons; use hands to finger, handle, or fell objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms. 

Work indoors in a library setting, including extensive work at a PC monitor.  Extended periods of standing are required in some instances.
