The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter Trainees who, under immediate supervision, actively participate in the Firefighter Academy training program. Trainees perform all related learning and testing activities in preparation for the Firefighter/Engineer classification within the Fire Department of the City of Redwood City.  See Firefighter Trainee job description for more details. Upon successful completion of the Firefighter Academy training program and Field Training Orientation (FTO/Apprentice), incumbents of this non-sworn classification may be appointed to the sworn classification of Firefighter/Engineer and serve a probationary period of eighteen (18) months. Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or California Certificate of Proficiency).
• Possession of a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) OR a valid Paramedic certification, prior to appointment.

• Maintaining contact with all units on assignment and maintaining status and location of police field units.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City, Public Works Department invites you to apply for the position of Management Analyst I.  This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to provide highly responsible staff assistance in the preparation and administration of various contracts and agreements, as well as development, coordination and monitoring of various department budgets, grant proposals, reports and records maintenance.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to: assist the Public Works Superintendents and Director in tracking divisional workload and projects, helping prepare staff reports, monitoring the budget associated with existing projects; assist in the preparation, review, implementation and monitoring of various professional services contracts; work in conjunction with legal counsel to ensure that contracts are in  compliance with the City’s policy, local, state, and federal laws; ensure that contracts  are in compliance with agreed upon terms, fees, schedules and scope of work; generate and analyze data regarding cost-effectiveness and quality of services; analyze budget reports and forecasts; analyze revenue producing programs and make recommendations; assist in the preparation of Notice of Inviting Bids (NIB) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs); assist in the evaluation of proposals and make recommendations as appropriate; prepare purchasing and payment requisitions in accordance with agreed upon terms; evaluate the effectiveness of technology and make recommendations that will improve operational efficiencies; conduct research and analysis on best practices in the field of Public Works, and produce various written reports and recommendations. The Management Analyst I may serve as department liaison to various committees and associations for compliance of environmental and regulatory requirements.

• Operate and maintain voice radio equipment, and a computer terminal or personal computer.
• Drive and operate fire apparatus and motor vehicles proficiently and safely.

Special Requirements - Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:

• Must be eighteen years of age;
• Vision Standards: Must pass a pre-employment medical exam according to the standards set by The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and freedom from color blindness;
• Hearing Standards: Must pass a pre-employment medical exam according to NFPA;
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, lift and carry in excess of 100 lbs.; pull and/or drag 175 lbs.; work in the following environments: cold, extreme heat, extreme noise, outdoors, confining work spaces, elevated areas; work with electrical hazards, vibration, chemicals, dust, toxic waste, mechanical hazards, and explosive materials; availability for shift work.
• This position shall serve a probationary period of eighteen (18) months.
• As a condition of employment, employees shall comply with mandated medical monitoring.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic people to work within our After School Sports and Mobile Recreation programs operated out of Red Morton Community Center. The hours of this position could be Monday through Friday, from 3:30pm-8:30pm during the school year, but nighttime and weekend hours will be mandatory depending on special events and program needs. During the spring and summer, duties will include, but are not limited to, serving as a head coach within our Junior Dribblers basketball program and leading mobile recreation activities at various parks and school sites. This position will report directly to the After School Sports Coordinator.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Provide gym/field oversite and coordination at various gyms and school sites within Redwood City; act in the capacity of lead scorekeeper or field supervisor; train new scorekeepers and/or field attendants as needed; possess a firm understanding of league rules and policies; ensure that games and practices operated in a safe, inclusive environment; report any issues immediately to After School Sports Coordinator; address all parent or league issues in a timely and professional manner; maintain and care for all sports and mobile rec equipment; follow departmental and city-wide rules and regulations as they relate to the supervision of sports program and general work procedures; assist with other programs within the Parks & Recreation Department, including but not limited to, facilities, special events, and other youth programs.
