THE POSITION
To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City-owned buildings, equipment and facilities.
The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a Temporary / Part-Time position. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Facility Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for employment as an Intern. Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per fiscal year. Typical work schedule will be three 8-hour shifts per week, excluding weekends and evenings.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
This position will perform semi-skilled tasks in a variety of light construction and maintenance activities. The Ideal Candidate will be customer-friendly and be a solutions-oriented professional who is flexible in dealing with shifting priorities, have good time management skills, and possess the ability to work effectively in the absence of supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintain and repair City buildings, equipment and facilities by performing a variety of semiskilled carpentry, plumbing, painting, heating/air conditioning, mechanical repair and electrical work as necessary. Inspect City buildings to locate conditions indicating the need for repairs and maintenance; assist in establishing and implementing preventative maintenance programs. Operate and maintain a variety of heavy tools and equipment, including small power and hand tools. Work cooperatively with others. Regular and consistent attendance.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Remodel and repair a variety of building components such as counters, tables, desks, bookshelves, cabinets, partitions, walls, windows and doors; boilers, water pumps, exhaust fans, compressors, and other water and sewage system plumbing as required. Perform electrical work such as wiring and rewiring; replace switches, ballast and receptacles as required. Prepare simple activity and related reports; maintain inventory and work records as required. Requisition supplies and materials. Perform general janitorial duties as needed. Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Facility Maintenance Worker I
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Six (6) months of work experience in carpentry, electrical and maintenance work is desirable.
License and Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License required upon hire.

$17.00 – $21.00 per hour

BENEFITS
The pay cycle is bi-weekly. With the exception of worker's compensation coverage and sick leave accrual, no other benefits compensations are provided. Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.
