The Graphics Specialist (Graphic Designer) reports to the Manager, Creative Services, and is responsible for design layout, production of collaterals for publications on print, and digital communications for San Mateo County Transit (SamTrans), Peninsula Joint Powers Board (Caltrain), and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA).

Essential Functions & Duties

Examples of Essential Functions: 

• Ensure consistency of brand and visual identity across all materials.

• Prepare and finalize artwork for print and digital production across various formats.

• Prepare layout brochures, newsletters, reports, flyers, forms and other printed materials with text provided by the editor.

• Create sketches, maps, graphs, charts, posters, diagrams, final drawings, and photographs.

• Image correction and manipulation, including retouching, color adjustments, and preparing high-resolution imagery for both print and digital formats.

Minimum Qualifications Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:

• Three (3) years of progressive experience in graphics art, including experience with HTML and print production processes from concept to delivery, and an understanding of graphic design principles including layout, typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy. 

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience with InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator in a Windows/PC environment preferred

• Transportation or Transit experience preferred

• Experience managing and meeting multiple tight deadlines independently

• Claims Processing and Management: Responsible for the processing of third-party personal injury and property damage claims against the District, ensuring thorough documentation, and adherence to both legal requirements and the District’s claims handling procedures.

• Invoice Processing: Responsible for processing of invoices related to claims and insurance operations, ensuring financial accuracy and accountability. 

• Subrogation Assistance: Assist with third-party subrogation processes, ensuring the District recovers costs effectively from other parties when applicable. 

• Insurance Documentation Support: Compile supporting documentation necessary for the annual insurance program applications, facilitating thorough and compliant submissions. 

• Records Management: Perform records destruction in accordance with the District’s guidelines, ensuring that all actions comply with legal standards for document retention and destruction.

DEFINITION

Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Programs Manager, assists in the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of the City’s environmental programs; provides professional and technical assistance to other city departments, residents, businesses and schools; performs related duties as required.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This position is distinguished from that of Environmental Programs Manager in that the latter has overall responsibility for environmental programs and activities.  Incumbents provide a wide range of program support activities through written and verbal direction and instruction; operates programs within established policies and procedures; and exercises limited independent judgment in the course of the work.

SUPERVISION

Direct supervision is provided by the Environmental Program Manager.  Incumbents may supervise the activities of program Interns.

Conduct outreach on the rebate programs; assist in staffing community outreach events.
10. Provide guidance to contractors, student interns and community volunteers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

The knowledge skills and abilities listed above may be acquired in a variety of ways.  A typical way to acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities is:

Education:  Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, public health administration, public administration, or a related field. 

Experience: Two years experience performing environmental management functions including recycling, water conservation, of solid waste management and planning, etc.

License:  Must possess and maintain a valid California Operator’s License issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles and a satisfactory driving record or the ability to obtain transportation to travel to various work sites as required by the job.

The Deputy Director of Public Works is responsible for directing and managing all programs within the Divisions for which they are responsible. The City of San Mateo Public Works Department is looking for an Engineering Technician I/II

What You’ll Do

The Engineering Technician I/II performs a variety of technical drafting, office and field engineering work. The position receives immediate supervision from higher engineering personnel.

The Engineering Technician I/II position is flexibly staffed based on experience and may be filled at either level. Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Locate utilities, easements, property lines and other information on plans.
• Prepare topographical plan and profile maps of property and pertinent features from survey notes and legal descriptions.

• Ink, pencil, trace and letter charts, graphs, maps, plans and other drawings; prepare miscellaneous illustrative materials such as charts and graphs on blueprint machine; monitor blueprint machine and blueprint paper supply.
• Prepare final drawings of existing improvements, rights-of-way, and other utilities using field notes, maps and photographs; check calculations used in designs and estimates.
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with workflow processes.
• Assist in measuring accurate distances to be used in the determination of locations of boundaries, easements, improvements, structures and topographic features; keep notes on measurements made.
• Write technical specifications for various maintenance contracts; inspect work on maintenance contracts; verify quantities for payment on maintenance contracts.
• Answer questions and provide information to the public concerning engineering activities; issue permits and accept permit fees over the counter; answer questions related to maintenance projects as applicable.
• Make and check mathematical calculations related to surveying and basic engineering.
• Inspect streets, sidewalks, sewers, drains and other public works areas for maintenance needs; prepare cost estimates of labor, materials equipment necessary for maintenance projects; assist in developing work schedules.
• Prepare and maintain production and related records regarding maintenance activities.
• Maintain various technical files and departmental logs.
• Manage and respond to resident service requests.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department invites you to apply for the casual position of Building Attendant. This position requires daytime availability for four-to-six-hour shifts between the hours of 8am and 5pm. A person in this classification will work flexibly, up to 20 hours per week. Locations could vary across multiple community centers, and Building Attendants will be required to open the facility as needed.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to: provide excellent customer service to youth, teens, adults, and seniors; oversee the use of the facility insuring that patrons conform to established City and building rental policies and procedures; perform classroom and multi- purpose room set-up and breakdowns for classes, meetings, and building rentals; perform front desk customer service functions; perform minor clean-up as needed including, cleaning bathrooms, floors, windows, counter tops, and emptying garbage; lock and unlock doors; secure building; set up supplies and equipment as dictated by program needs; and perform related duties as assigned.

DEFINITION

Account Clerk I: Under supervision, perform clerical work of moderate difficulty in connection with preparing, maintaining or checking financial or statistical records; receive and receipt money; operate office accounting machines; do related work as required.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Cashier

The Cashier receives and receipts cash payments and maintains daily files of validated documents; balances transaction and prepares cash reports daily; does responsible clerical accounting work in maintaining financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; batch balances cash from various City entities; organizes money and sets up daily starting cash drawer; computer posts utility transactions as required; maintains the Petty Cash Fund; answers customer inquiries on account status using computer equipment; issues various parking permits and maintains related files; store, issues, and controls vehicle ignition keys for City pool cars, and records and reports mileage/usage; types routine documents; and assists with various Utility Billing Division activities as required.

 

Utility Billing Division

Either manually or through the use of computers, as appropriate, does responsible clerical accounting work in the maintenance of financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; interacts with residents through phone, email, and in person; receives and receipts money; prepares records to open, change, maintain or close utility accounts; performs routine arithmetical computations; opening, sorting, and processing mail; operates adding machines; does routine typing of documents and precise computer data entry of financial data.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of: 

Account Clerk I level: Methods, principles, and terminology used in financial clerical work; and modern office practices.

Ability to:  

Perform clerical work of average difficulty; prepare basic financial reports, maintain journals, ledgers, and complex files; operate adding and calculating machines; perform arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience:

Account Clerk I:  One year of clerical experience involving financial record keeping and general office work; six (6) months of experience using computer spreadsheets is desirable.

Education:  Graduation from high school or equivalent.
