The Position:

Police Officers perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; control traffic flow and enforce state and local regulations; perform investigative work; participate in and provide support and assistance to special department crime prevention and enforcement programs and do related police work as assigned. EXCITING OPPORTUNITY

The Town of San Anselmo is seeking applications for the full-time position of Senior Building Inspector in the Public Works and Building Department.  It is an exciting opportunity to work in a broad range of areas, to help shape the future of the Town.

The Department of Public Works maintains the Town’s infrastructure to support the community. With a staff of 15, the department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the following public facilities: roads, parks, buildings, parking, equipment, and vehicle fleet. In addition, Town engineering, capital construction projects, and natural disaster response are also managed within the Public Works department.

THE POSITION

Typical duties of the Senior Building Inspector position include, but are not limited to:

• Make field inspections of buildings and public works permits to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical codes, statutes, and regulations of the Town, county, state and federal agencies.
• Review, approve and issue permits for construction work.
• Check plans and specifications for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with codes and ordinances.
• Investigate code violations and complaints.
• Conduct residential resale inspections, prepare and issue reports upon the sale of all residential property.
• Perform re-inspections and follow-up as necessary to gain compliance.
• Provide information and guidance to the public regarding codes, ordinances, and the permitting process.
• Provide technical information and interpretations regarding codes, ordinances and compliance methods to contractors, builders, designers, and the general public.
• Resolve difficult and complex code interpretation, enforcement, and inspection problems, issues, and conflicts.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and files.
• Write clear and concise letters as needed.
• Provide staff assistance to the public at the department’s service counter as needed.

 Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge and Abilities):

• Knowledge of state and local building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy, accessibility, and fire codes and local building, fire and zoning ordinances.
• Principles and techniques of building construction, building materials and accepted safety standards; Principles and techniques of building inspection.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret building plans and specifications; understand, interpret and apply codes, ordinances, and regulations; communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing.
• Use windows-based computer programs such as MS Word and Excel.
• Operate a car and pickup truck safely, back vehicle a long distance, and steer through narrow roadways and hillsides.

Experience and Training:

• Five years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, including commercial inspection and/or plan check experience, of which two (2) years must be at full journey level.
• Three years of experience as a building inspector or related field involving inspection or code enforcement.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent to the completion of 12th grade – college training in the field of civil engineering, architecture, or building technology may be substituted for equivalent year of work experience. Associated of Arts degree preferred.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within 3 months, a valid California driver’s license
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within 6 months, certification, through the International Code Council, as a California Residential Building Inspector- J1 and California Commercial Building Inspector- I1

Special Requirements/Physical Demands:

• On-site field inspections and office work require a moderate amount of physical agility. Intermittently walk, stand, twist, squat, kneel, climb, and bend both in the office and in the field.
• On a continuous basis, sit at a desk or stand at a counter to answer questions of the public.  Write by long hand and use a computer keyboard to communicate through written means.
• Frequently lift or carry a weight of up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• The nature of the work requires the individual to climb 30’ to 40’ ladders or scaffolding to reach high areas such as roofs, balance on narrow walkways or steep-pitched roofs, crawl through narrow openings and in confined spaces.
• During inspections, the individual may be required to walk on uneven surfaces. Work will require exposure to intermittent uncomfortable working conditions such as dust, noise, and extreme cold or heat. Inspections are done out-of-doors year-round.

THE POSITION

The main job of a Library Page is putting books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines back on the shelves and preparing the library for opening and closing. The ability to quickly and accurately sort things alphabetically and numerically is required. This is an ideal job for someone who enjoys organizing and who can work quietly on their own.

DEFINITION

Under supervision, sorts, shelves, straightens, relocates, and searches for library materials, re-orders and organizes materials as needed, provides basic directional information to patrons, performs basic circulation duties using computer software, performs physical tasks to support library programs and procedures, performs closing procedures, and does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Sorts and shelves materials, assists at public service desks; inspects materials for wear and damage and does basic mending of same; keeps books and periodical shelves in order; assists in taking inventory of books; performs basic custodial tasks as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 Knowledge of: Basic clerical functions, principles of alphabetical and numerical filing, basic record keeping procedures.

The Position:
This is complex lead level work involved in a central purchasing department related to the procurement of goods and services, including preparation of formal bid documents, facilitation of the activities of the bid process, selection of vendors, volume buying, inventory, assessing availability and quality of goods and services, and routine to complex procurements for the entire District according to prescribed methods. ABOUT THE POSITION

The Town of Atherton invites you to apply for the position of Associate Engineer in the Public Works Department. The position, general supervision, performs various professional field and office engineering work related to the management, planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the Town’s public works infrastructure, associated with the Capital Improvement Program (CIP); provides project management oversight, coordination and administration; conducts development plan reviews and inspections; confers with developers, contractors, and representatives of other agencies regarding facility and infrastructure development and maintenance; administers professional services and construction contracts; provides professional staff assistance to the Director of Public Works, other departments, and the public in areas of expertise; performs a variety of studies and prepares and presents staff reports; and assist in the development of the Department budget and monitors revenue and expense budgets on an ongoing basis.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

• Plans, manages, designs, and inspects all phases of civil engineering public works construction projects, including defining the scope of the project; coordinating with permitting and public utility agencies; applying engineering principles and practices to specific problems; coordinating construction schedules with other projects and agencies; preparing and reviewing cost estimates; and inspecting construction of projects to ensure compliance with construction documents; performs related planning and design work.
• Review of proposed private development projects; including issues related to public works, hydrology, grading, scheduling, traffic control, and erosion; prepares public works conditions of approval for proposed development.
• Reviews construction plans prepared by consulting engineers and private contractors; checks plans for conformance with regulations; reviews engineering calculations; participates in pre-design, construction, and coordination meetings and issues construction permits.
• Develops consultant requests for proposal for professional and/or construction services and the advertising and bid processes; evaluates proposals and recommends project award; administers contracts after award; ensures contractor compliance with Town standards and specifications, time and budget estimates; analyzes and resolves complex problems that may arise; recommends and approves field changes as required.
• Monitors and pursues grant opportunities for improvements in public works programs.
• Participates in the development of the Town’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
• Participates in the San Mateo County Cleanwater Program and assists with compliance and reporting associated with the Municipal Regional (NPDES) Stormwater Permit.
• Performs other related duties as required.

The Position:
The Accountant performs professional work involved in first line supervision of accounting functions, complex account development, maintenance, modification, and reporting. Under direction, the position is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles to analyze, maintain, reconcile and verify a variety of budgetary, accounting and other fiscal records. The position supervises daily operations in a variety of functional accounting areas and maintains adequate oversight and internal controls over such operations. Public contact is extensive and involves staff at various levels within the organization, local government agencies and other outside entities for the purpose of exchanging technical accounting procedural and policy information. A high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to analyze data and develop resolutions to a variety of minor and major problems that occur. The consequences of errors in judgment can be costly in employee time, public relations and/or institutional funding; however, administrative controls limit the risk of serious consequences in loss of revenue. An Accountant can direct the work of accounting paraprofessional, clerical and other staff as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Uses a variety of spreadsheet and other software to analyze complex financial, statistical data
• • Composes and prepares correspondence, recommendations and reports using a variety of computer software
• Posts revenue, abatement, expenses, accounts receivable and liabilities to the ledger
• Monitors and records various investments, certificates of deposit, and other fund instruments as assigned
• Monitors, reconciles and balances expenditure and revenue control accounts and general ledger accounts
• Provides regular financial reports
• Researches, compiles data for, and prepares complex fiscal reports to local, state, and federal agencies as required
• Provides input into the development and modification of database programs, screens, data formats and record keeping
• Prepares cash reconciliations
• Prepares monthly income analysis summaries, cash flow statements, and fund balance statements as needed

• Compiles financial data for internal and external audits as needed
• Coordinates required changes in district fiscal records, policies, and procedures, in conjunction with senior management and other staff
• Updates and drafts procedures as necessary
• Monitors and interprets federal and state regulations and guidelines and assures compliance with requirements
• Exchanges information with college and district staff at all levels regarding policies and procedures related to the assigned functional accounting area; provides technical information as a resource to various offices within the district
• Implements financial requirements of contractual agreements made by the district
• Assists staff in fiscal year-end closing of district records and preparation of year-end reports
• Assists internal and external auditors in preparation of final reports as needed
• Attends, meetings, workshops, and other gatherings to obtain most current information
• Drives a motor vehicle to visit off-site locations for meetings, conferences, workshops and other activities

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Successful work experience of increasing responsibility that has included government fund accounting, financial analysis and reporting; project budgeting, planning, and design
• Experience in the coordination of workloads with people at various levels within an organization
• Skill in complex data research, analysis and reporting
• Skill in the use of spreadsheets and a variety of computer software to compose and prepare data analysis, reports, summaries, correspondence and other materials
• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff

THE POSITION

Library Aides provide customer service to library visitors. Duties include checking items in and out at the Checkout Desk, opening new library accounts, collecting fines and fees, shelving materials, and assisting library visitors in finding materials and using the computers. Other tasks may include processing materials, providing storytimes for children, and assisting with other public programs for children, teens and adults. This is an ideal job for someone who is friendly, computer savvy, enjoys working with the public, putting things in order, and is detail-oriented. Bilingual skills are desirable.

DEFINITION

Under supervision, to do library clerical, technical and customer service work, and related assignments as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Check materials in and out, sort materials, open new library accounts, explain library policies and resolve disputes, collect fines and fees, assist library patrons with self-checkout and public-use computers, printers, photocopiers, and scanners, answer routine information questions, complete opening and closing procedures, and perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:  Modern office and record-keeping procedures; use of office equipment and technology; numerical and alphabetical filing; basic mathematical principles.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

The current monthly salary for this position ranges from $9530.23 - 11,584.05, depending on qualifications.
