The City of East Palo Alto is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, welcoming full-time 1-year limited-term Housing Specialist I-II. The Housing Specialist I/II performs a variety of technical and administrative duties in support of the City’s affordable housing, rent stabilization, and anti-displacement programs. The position supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of housing policies, programs, and projects. The selected candidate will provide information and assistance to residents, property owners, tenants, landlords, and developers, and support the City’s efforts to increase, preserve, and manage affordable housing, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal housing regulations.

This is an open, competitive/ promotional recruitment, meaning that it is open to qualified permanent employees and any other applicants who meet the minimum qualifications. Two employment lists will be created for internal promotional and an open list of all other, non-current EPA employees.  The department may hire at either the I or II level, depending on the skills, certifications, and qualifications held by the pool of applicants.

Under general direction, the Principal Planner performs the most complex and sensitive planning duties; and serves as staff resource in technical areas to plan, organize and coordinate programs and projects for professional, technical and clerical staff in a fast-paced work environment and highly engaged community. The Principal Planner provides supervision of the current and long-range planning projects and programs. Exciting long-range projects include the Housing Element Update and a variety of housing-related initiatives.

We are now hiring Recreation Specialists to provide hands-on support for a wide variety of programs including youth programs, recreation and sports programs, food preparation, and senior center programs for approximately 10-20 hours per week. • Gymnastics programs for youth
• After school programs for youth
• Recreation center customer service
• Sports/gymnasium customer service
• Kitchen and food preparation

Recreation Specialists provide a variety of hands-on support activities to an assigned program or division. Recreation Specialists are expected to:

• Provide professional and courteous customer service at all times
• Provide hands-on operational support in City recreation centers, sports facilities, youth programs, and/or nutrition and food service programs
• Set up, arrange, and take-down furniture and equipment for classes, rentals, meetings, and special events
• Effectively use, learn and perform tasks on recreation software systems 
• Monitor the proper and safe use of City facilities by the general public and ensure adherence to rules and policies
• Ensure the cleanliness and safety of facilities throughout the day
• Demonstrate proficiency with word processing, data entry and organization

Depending on the specific work assignment, Recreation Specialists also are responsible for:

• Leading children in organized youth programs and activities
• Food preparation and food service in City nutrition programs.
• Handling money and electronic transactions
• Organizing class sign in sheets
• Monitoring, organizing, and running community programs
