What You’ll Do

The Public Works Supervisor will organize and supervise work crews engaged in the maintenance and repair of streets, traffic markings, signs, signals, street lights, drains, storm pump, stormwater conveyance systems and sanitary pumps, lagoons, dams, creeks and ditches; to provide technical staff assistance, including safety compliance and implementation. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Recommend and assist in the implementation of program goals and objectives; standard operating procedures; establish schedules and methods for street, traffic and stormwater conveyance systems maintenance and repair; safety compliance and implementation; implement policies and procedures.
• Organize and supervise crews of skilled and semi-skilled personnel in the repair and maintenance of streets and stormwater conveyance systems, including street resurfacing, streetlights, traffic signals and street markings and signs, repairing and patching; street cleaning; sidewalk, curb and gutter removal and replacement; sewer cleaning and repair; weed control and storm drain cleaning maintenance.
• Maintain and interpret time, material and equipment use records; determine and implement adjustments to optimize the effectiveness of the maintenance system.
• Investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary to resolve complaints.
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with workflow processes.
• Participate in selecting, training, motivating, counseling and evaluating staff; participate in monitoring employee performance objectives; prepare employee performance reviews; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
• Coordinate safety training and support Department safety programs including preparation and updating of City safety practices, standard operating procedures and training materials. May be asked to conduct specific safety trainings depending on training and experience. These activities may be required in both the Engineering & General Services and Environmental Services Divisions as requested by the Director.
• Inspect the work of crews while in progress; provide advice and assistance to subordinate supervisors and lead workers.
• Assist in preparing cost estimates for street, sewer, traffic and drainage system maintenance and repair activities; make plans and sketches for minor street maintenance and repair projects.
• Assist in coordinating street, sewer, traffic and drainage system maintenance activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies.
• Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for needed equipment and materials; monitor and control expenditures.
• Monitor streets, traffic signs and signals, street lights, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and drainage facilities for needed maintenance and repairs.
• Issue purchase orders to contractors and vendors; requisition materials and supplies

The Public Works Supervisor receives direction from the Public Works Field Maintenance Manager or other Public Works senior management personnel and exercises direct supervision over crew lead workers, crews, and other staff per program assignment.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Parks Division is in charge of planning and maintaining the city’s parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and other landscaping. There are approximately 25 parks and play lots, including Sign Hill Park, which has 60 acres of open space, and Centennial Way Linear Park, a 3-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail. Amenities include Centennial Dog Park, bocce ball courts, an above-ground skate park, a variety of ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, picnic shelters and group picnic areas.
 

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION:

The ideal part-time Park Maintenance Worker will be able to prioritize work and coordinate multiple tasks while working cooperatively with a variety of people, consistently ensuring excellent customer service. Capable of organizing duties, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimal supervision to maintain parks and public facilities according to established standards. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in park and landscape maintenance, as well as an understanding of occupational hazards and related safety practices.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains all types of landscaped areas through mowing, watering, planting, trimming, weeding, and fertilizing.
• Applies insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
• Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, chippers, and related grounds and tree maintenance equipment.
• Cleans and perform minor repairs to park and recreation equipment, buildings, and related facilities; maintains and prepares athletic fields.
• Assists in the maintenance of sprinkler systems; assists in the maintenance and minor repair of power-driven equipment.
• As assigned, works extended or irregular hours.
• Assists in the general cleaning and maintenance of the Corporation Yard.
• Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of experience in parks and landscape maintenance work is preferred. 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license, and a satisfactory driving record.

THE DEPARTMENT

The South San Francisco Fire Department provides its residents with service in fire suppression; first-responder and ambulance transport emergency medical services; hazardous materials response; urban search and rescue; marine rescue and fire prevention, investigation and public education. The Department operates five (5) fire stations throughout the City, plus an Emergency Operations Center and Fire Training Tower and is comprised of 92 dedicated staff members.

As a Mechanic I/II, you will:

• Operate computerized diagnostic instruments plus a full range of hand, air, and electric tools.

• Perform welding, metal fabrication, tire work, and minor body repairs.

• Provide emergency field assistance and respond to critical fleet issues on a 24-hour standby.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Contract Administrator I is the entry and first working level class in the Contract Administrator series. Initially, under close supervision, incumbents perform basic contract administration duties while learning County and programmatic policies, procedures, and guidelines. As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This class is flexibly staffed with the Contract Administrator II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency, which meets the qualifications of the higher-level class.

Contract Administrator II is the fully experienced, journey-level class in this series, capable of independently performing the full range of contract administration duties. Employees are normally given substantial latitude in determining approach, procedures, systems, and methods in accomplishing the work goals. They make basic programmatic decisions that require the exercise of independent judgment and are responsible for coordinating multiple functions or processes. Incumbents at this level are typically assigned the more complex contracts.

 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to:

• Support and/or lead complex procurement processes by applying knowledge of spending thresholds and competitive requirements, and County policies.
• Draft clear and comprehensive purchasing documents, including scopes of work, contracts, and amendments.
• Monitor and coordinate workflows for multiple contracts and competitive processes, ensuring timely progress and attention to detail.
• Analyze vendor data, synthesize reports, and identify areas requiring follow-up or escalation.
• Create tools and resources to support staff in adopting policies, including initiatives like the Library’s Small Business First Policy.

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Coordinate the full lifecycle of contract development and amendments in collaboration with division managers, including drafting scopes of work, facilitating formal competitive processes, securing approvals, and maintaining comprehensive contract files.
• Provide technical guidance on procurement requirements and thresholds.
• Ensure compliance with insurance, credentials, service plans, and payment schedules.
• Conduct quarterly vendor monitoring through OFAS report analysis and escalate findings to management.
• Support adoption of Library procurement policies and tools, including Small Business First and Coupa features.
• Serve as Coupa Admin to manage backend settings (e.g., user access, chart of accounts, commodities) and support staff with troubleshooting.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

Contract Administrator I:  Two years of professional-level administrative or programmatic experience, primarily in the area of contract administration in a community services or related setting.  

Contract Administrator II:  Four years of professional-level administrative or programmatic experience, primarily in the area of contract administration in a community services or related setting.
 

Knowledge of: 

• Principles and practices of public administration.
• Principles and practices of the program areas to which assigned.
• Principles and practices of contract development, negotiation, and monitoring, including budgeting and financial record keeping.
• Principles, practices, and techniques of administrative and programmatic research and analysis. 
• Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, and County and program policies and guidelines. 
• Computer applications related to the work.

What You’ll Do

The Public Works Maintenance Leadworker performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of sewer infrastructure, road ways, sidewalks, and storm conveyance system. The Leadworker assigns and participates in the work of maintenance crews, operates power driven equipment, and performs related work as required.   This position is responsible for lead supervision of a sewer, street, storm or traffic safety maintenance field crew. The Human Resources Administrator (Classification & Compensation) reports to the Director, Human Resources and is responsible for administering the District’s classification and compensation categorization system including performing highly confidential and professional level analytical work and advanced data analysis. This position makes recommendations based on studies and market data for professional-level administrative positions within the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), Peninsula Joint Powers Board (Caltrain), and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) agencies.

• Plan, develop, and administer the District’s classification and compensation program. 

• Gather, consolidate, and analyze complex qualitative, quantitative, confidential and sensitive data, datasets, and information from multiple sources. 

• Serve as the subject matter expert in classification and compensation, market salary data, and salary studies, providing information and recommendations to management. 

• Provides leadership in change management related to classification and compensation including communication with District staff on updated Human Resources policies and procedures. 

• Assists with People & Culture Group programs including benefits, recruitment, civil rights, and employee relations by providing data and information relating to compensation and classification. 

• Responsible for developing, updating, and communicating policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to the area of administration. 

 

Examples of Duties:

• Provide classification and compensation support to the HR Director and Caltrain HR Business Partner.

• Conduct review of classification descriptions and determine an appropriate level of compensation based on market data comparators and internal alignment.

• Independently and proactively identify trends and insights for recommendations. 

• Monitor state and federal policy updates, new technology, or updated methodology related to classification and compensation and communicate changes to relevant departments and staff. 

• Prepares presentations, reports, and data visualizations to support findings and present information in a clear and concise manner. 

• Analyze and interpret large datasets and information. 

• Leads meetings to present salary and budget recommendations, policy updates, and individual results with staff, management, and consultants. 

• Performs periodic audits of the classification and compensation evaluation system, ensuring data quality and control, consistent and fair application, and 

• Maintains reports, manuals, datasets and files. 

• Manages the work of outside consultants, scheduling meetings with necessary administrative staff, and supporting the information gathering and decision-making process. 

• Assess and review compensation and classification policies and procedures for improvements.

Minimum Qualifications:

Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:

• Associate Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or directly related field. 

• Five (5) years full-time, progressively responsible experience in classification, data and/or information analysis in a professional business setting.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to use initiative and independent judgment, work with interruptions and changing priorities, organize work and follow-up assignments with minimal supervision.  

• Public sector experience preferred.

The Senior Engineer, Railroad Structures reports to the Manager, Engineering Structures and Facilities, and is responsible for Caltrain corridor engineering, construction support of capital improvement projects, engineering design and maintenance support of facilities, including maintenance facilities and historical stations, project planning support, and design studies support for railroad structures including railroad stations, and railroad facilities for the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain).

• · Provide engineering architectural and design support related to design review, renovations, structural improvements and repairs for Rail Operations, Capital Projects, Construction Management, and other Caltrain departments.

• · Works closely with key stakeholders internally and externally to maintain railroad facilities, structures, tracks, tunnels and bridges (civil/structural).

• · Review and perform capacity calculations on railway structures, design reviews and capital improvement projects to protect the integrity of the railroad structures, including historical preservation and to ensure technical requirements are met.

San Mateo County Health's Public Health, Policy and Planning Division has exciting field-based opportunities for well-qualified and motivated Nurse Practitioners to provide both primary and urgent care to adults from vulnerable populations within our community—people experiencing homelessness and/or in shelters, monolingual Spanish speakers and other new immigrants, and those without insurance or underinsured. These services are provided through various Mobile Clinic modalities and venues, including but not limited to street medicine, shelter medicine, and the mobile coach. We are looking for collaborative Nurse Practitioners to work in and lead various multidisciplinary service teams in the field to provide comprehensive, low-threshold, client-centered care and engagement.

Teams are staffed by a Nurse Practitioner (NP), Psychiatrist, Medical Services Assistant, AOD Case Manager, and Patient Services Assistants. These teams work closely with our community partners from the Human Services Agency and community-based organizations who locate and identify clients needing medical and/or mental health services, as well as provide additional health, housing, and social services in the field.

Under general supervision, Nurse Practitioners provide urgent care and primary health care services such as physical examinations, chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes and hypertension), and referrals/linkages to specialty clinics as appropriate.

Currently, Public Health Clinics has one full-time, regular, 40-hour-per-week vacancy for a bilingual Spanish Nurse Practitioner and two 40-hour-per-week, Limited-Term Nurse Practitioner vacancies, requiring flexible schedules and field-based work at different locations. Sixty-five percent of the NP’s time will be in the field, with the remainder spent in the office documenting notes, placing orders, and coordinating with other staff as needed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

• Education: Completion of an advanced nursing degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), with emphasis in a Nurse Practitioner specialty area.

• Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of paid experience in an acute and/or ambulatory care setting.
