In the heart of Silicon Valley, Mountain View is a diverse community with an estimated population of 83,601. The Mountain View Fire Department provides emergency and safety services across 12 square miles, responds to more than 7,600 calls annually, holds a Class 1 ISO rating, and is staffed by 89 FTE personnel with a FY2025-26 budget of $42.15 million.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished fire service leader who combines operational credibility with strong administrative ability. Candidates should bring a record of leadership success and independent decision-making, a strong operational background respected by peers and subordinates, and demonstrated experience with Incident Command. The ideal candidate is collaborative, approachable, and decisive, with excellent communication skills and a genuine commitment to teamwork and mentorship. Position requires five years of experience in primary fire service functions, including two years in a command position (Battalion or Division Chief), and a bachelor’s degree.
Salary range is $235,045–$352,569. Pay beyond the control point of $293,807 may be awarded for exceptional qualifications and experience. Salary supplemented by attractive benefits package. Closes at 11:59 pm on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
