Description
Under the general direction from the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Specialist – Enrichment is responsible to act as a liaison to the Department’s flourishing enrichment (after school) program and ensure the smooth operation of programming for preschool and elementary aged classes both on and off-site. This includes the elementary-aged afterschool programs Supervised Play at Old Mill Elementary School and Center of Play at the Mill Valley Community Center. This position requires a high level of customer service, attention to detail, marketing prowess, evaluation and oversight of programs, independent contractors, and part-time staff, and the ability to build relationships throughout the community. The Recreation Specialist- Enrichment will assist other staff in the Youth and Teens Division for seasonal programs as needed.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience working in elementary aged programs, ideally in a fast-paced and dynamic setting. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in early childhood education, recreation, or a related field with a minimum of two years of experience in delivering kindergarten, elementary and/or youth programming, etc. is preferred.

NOTE: This is a part-time, non-benefitted position for the Mill Valley Arts and Recreation Department.
DEFINITION: Communicate with participants, families, instructors, staff and elementary school sites to coordinate class schedules, registrations, and program needs for the TK-5th grade After School Enrichment programs. Hours are approximately Monday-Friday, 12:30pm-5:30pm.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Facilitates recreation activities for specific age group: Transitional Kindergarten through 5th Grade.
Organizes, implements, directs, supervises and/or promotes specific programs and activities.
Processes program payments promptly and thoroughly.
Programs enrichment classes for each season (Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer).
Participates in the preparation and administration of assigned program budget.
Works with local School District, PTAs, and community groups in developing, promoting, and providing programs and activities.
Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively and professionally with schools, staff, parents, and children.
Monitors the day-to-day operations of the programs, including making site visits, handling and resolving complaints not requiring the attention of a supervisor and ensuring that programs and events have required materials, staff, and supplies.
Assists in the evaluation of programming including conducting customer satisfaction surveys and analyzing reports on program effectiveness.
Enforces safety and operating procedures and provides for maintenance needs including compliance with health and safety codes.
Creation and development of new programs, as needed.
Accurately maintain attendance records.
The ability to speak English clearly and understandably.
Perform related duties as required.
Must be able to lift 50lbs.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education, training, and experience, which likely provides the required knowledge and abilities.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. Candidates must possess a current CPR/AED and First Aid certificate and be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency.
