ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting to fill the limited-term position of Code Enforcement in the Community Development Department, Building Division.

The Code Enforcement Officer will respond to citizen concerns and proactively identify violations such as property maintenance issues, and zoning infractions. You will educate the public on code requirements through clear and respectful communication and work collaboratively with other city departments and external agencies to resolve issues. The Code Enforcement Officer is distinguished from the Supervisor by performing work of moderate difficulty and more routine tasks and duties assigned to this position within this classification series. These tasks involve inspections and enforcement of applicable ordinances pertaining to residential and commercial properties, housing, building construction, and other related regulations. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer will issue notices, citations, and follow up on compliance efforts in a fair and consistent manner. It is also imperative that the Code Enforcement Officer maintain accurate case files and documentation for possible legal proceedings.

The San Rafael Fire Department (SRFD) is piloting a 6-month, part-time, BLS ambulance  program and is seeking up to 6 motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team! This opportunity is designed for individuals who are pursuing a career in the fire/EMS services and want to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment. As an EMT, you will work closely with our experienced staff to learn about fire department operations, emergency response procedures, and community engagement.

• Emergency Response Support: Provide emergency medical care at the basic life support level and provide support services to Firefighter/Paramedic crews at prolonged incidents including fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and hazardous materials incidents. Participate in drills and exercises to enhance your understanding of emergency response protocols. 

• Equipment and Vehicle Operation and Communication: identify and operate various types of equipment for life saving and support measures; safely and effectively drive ambulance unit to specific locations while in communication with dispatchers, treatment center personnel, and/or other emergency team members and internal/external personnel, in a respectful and collaborative manner. Consistently practice and promote safety for yourself, colleagues, patients, and the public in all aspects of emergency medical response and care.  

• Training Participation: Attend training sessions, workshops, and skill-building exercises to learn about emergency medicine and fire suppression techniques, search and rescue operations, medical aid procedures, and other essential firefighting skills. 

• Equipment and Facility Maintenance: Assist in the maintenance and inspection of firefighting equipment, tools, and apparatus. Learn proper cleaning, care, and upkeep of vehicles, gear and tools to ensure readiness for emergency situations. Assist in the tracking, organizing, and dispensing of inventory.  

• Community Outreach: Participate in community events, educational programs, and public demonstrations to promote fire safety awareness and engage with the local community. Serve as an ambassador for the fire department and provide information about fire prevention and preparedness. 

• Administrative Support: Assist with administrative tasks such as record-keeping, data entry, and inventory management. Gain exposure to the behind-the-scenes operations of a fire department.  

• Physical Fitness: Work towards maintaining a level of physical fitness necessary for performing firefighting duties. Engage in physical training and conditioning activities as directed by the department. 

• Professional Development: Actively seek opportunities for learning and growth within the fire service. Take part in discussions with experienced firefighters to gain insights into career pathways and development strategies. 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 

• Must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.  

• Must possess a valid EMT (EMT-1/EMT-B) Certificate either through the National Registry EMT or State of California. Must maintain local certification requirements.  

• Must possess a valid CPR “Healthcare Provider” card issued by the American Heart Association or equivalent.  

• Must possess, or within one month of appointment must obtain, an Ambulance Driver Certificate through the CA DMV.  

• Must possess a valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory record.

• Physical fitness and ability to perform basic physical tasks, continuously move +/-25lbs, and lift up to 50lbs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS  

• Strong commitment to safety and adherence to protocols.  

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as adhere to the chain of command.

DURATION

This position is part of a 6-month pilot program. The exact duration may vary based on department needs and program performance. Successful candidates may not work more than 1,000 hours in a fiscal year.

Under direction, the Deputy City Clerk provides complex administrative and organizational support for all functions and activities of the City Clerk’s Office, including the duties necessary to ensure the custody and maintenance of official City documents, public and archival records and files, and public information. The Deputy City Clerk services to City employees and the public; as the Acting City Clerk in the absence of the City Clerk.  The Deputy City Clerk – Administrative Aide administers projects as assigned, fields and answers inquiries from the public, City departments, officials, and outside entities; participates in fostering cooperative working relationships among City departments and with State and local intergovernmental and regulatory agencies and various public and private groups; provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Clerk, City Manager, City Council, and other City Administrative Managers, and performs related work as required.

The Department: 

The Department of Public Works (DPW) constructs, maintains and improves various components of the City’s infrastructure providing quality, cost-effective, and timely services for the residents and businesses of Santa Clara. This also includes support of other City Departments providing services to the community.  DPW support includes managing more than 750 fleet assets essential in delivering quality public safety, power, water, sewer, parks, and streets maintenance services to the City.

The Position: 

This classification is the entry level of the City's Automotive Technician series and reports to the Public Works Supervisor, Automotive Technician II/III, or higher-level classification as assigned.  Incumbents in this classification perform routine safety and preventative maintenance inspections of motorized vehicles and equipment.

Course completion from an accredited institution or an appropriate trade school, or technical coursework from an accredited institution, in diesel or gasoline-powered mechanics leading to an Associate degree or journey level certification may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience.

Desirable Qualification: 

Possession of a valid California Class A driver's license with Air Brake Test is highly desirable.

License/Certifications: 

• Possession of an appropriate, valid California class C driver's license is required at time of appointment.

The annual salary range for this position is $80,547.00 - $103,113.12.   This position may be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience 

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from high school or its equivalent.

Minimum Experience Requirements:
One (1) year of paid experience in inventory control and warehouse operations.

License/Certifications: 

Possession of an appropriate California driver’s license issued is required at time of appointment and for duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications: 

Experience operating a forklift is desirable.

Other Requirements:  

• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment
