Position Duties

The Department of Public Works is recruiting to fill one (1) full-time Senior Systems Applications Programmer (Sr. SAP) position to develop technology solutions that will maximize the delivery of City products and services. 

The total salary range for Senior Systems Application Programmer (Sr. SAP) classification is $129,270.96 - $157,182.48. 

This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.  

The primary focus of this Sr. SAP position is to support the development and maintenance of several in-house hybrid systems hosted across both on-premises and cloud environments. This is a 100% individual contributor role responsible for developing solutions, resolving technical challenges, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support departmental and citywide operations, ensuring seamless integration across enterprise applications. This position is required to work on-site.

Key responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following: 

• Enhance, maintain, and support mission-critical on-premises web applications built with Node.js and Angular, including implementing complex enhancements, troubleshooting cross-layer issues, improving performance and reliability, and ensuring long-term maintainability aligned with evolving business and technical needs.
• Develop and maintain integrations between on-premises web applications and SaaS platforms such as Smartsheet and SharePoint.
• Manage enterprise-scale relational databases and develop complex queries to support data analysis, system integration, and reporting needs.
• Configure and administer Smartsheet solutions, including advanced workflows, reports, and dashboards; provide training and technical support to staff across multiple teams to promote effective adoption and use.

This position requires a candidate who is actively engaged in hands-on technical work and day-to-day problem solving. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

• Strong programming skills in JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Extensive experience developing responsive web applications using Node.js and Angular, or comparable modern web frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle or SQL Server, including database design and development of complex queries.
• Solid understanding of front-end and back-end application architecture, with the ability to troubleshoot and debug issues efficiently across the stack.
• Experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs, with working knowledge of HTTP protocols, authentication methods, and common data formats such as JSON and XML.
• Experience with Smartsheet, or the ability to quickly learn and apply advanced Smartsheet features with minimal training.
• Strong technical documentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users.

Maintenance Worker 2 - Street Maintenance Division

Salary: $37.60 - $47.99 Hourly

The City of Sunnyvale is excited to announce an opportunity for dedicated individuals to fill (2) regular full-time Maintenance Worker 2 positions in the Street Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. This position plays a key role in supporting the upkeep of the City's streets and traffic safety-related infrastructure. We are seeking dependable, detail-oriented individuals with strong customer service skills to join our team.

Responsibilities include performing a range of semi-skilled and manual labor tasks, such as repairing and maintaining traffic signs, applying roadway striping, installing pavement markings, and removing graffiti. These positions also perform traffic control, completing asphalt and minor concrete repairs, and carrying out other right-of-way maintenance duties as needed.

SENIOR BUILDING INSPECTOR

Salary: $58.52 - $74.69 Hourly

Sunnyvale is a dynamic city in the heart of Silicon Valley. Construction activities continue to grow with a wide range of project types, including tech manufacturing, hazardous occupancies, single-family residential, and multistory mixed-use, multifamily, and commercial buildings.

This position shares the responsibility of supervising 9 experienced inspectors with another Senior Building Inspector. The Building Division is a cohesive and supportive unit that helps each other navigate code compliance and enforcement issues.

An Associate's degree or 60 semester units or 90 quarter units in engineering technology, architecture, construction management or related field; AND
Four years of professional, full-time experience as a building inspector with a public agency,

Four years of professional, full-time experience as a building inspector with a public agency and two years as a licensed general contractor.

Licenses/Certificates:
Possession at time of hire and continued maintenance of a valid Class C California driver's license and a safe driving record.
Possession and continued maintenance of ICC Certifications:  Building Inspector (B1 and B2), Electrical Inspector (E1 and E2), Plumbing Inspector (P1 and P2), and Mechanical Inspector (M1 and M2).

The Senior Engineer, under the general direction of the Division Manager, leads and manages the New Development Review Team, overseeing the review and delivery of complex private development projects. This role ensures that development projects align with the City of San José’s and department’s transportation priorities, multimodal policies, and regulatory requirements.

The position provides technical leadership across the development review process and serves as a key liaison with internal partners, external stakeholders, and the public. As a unit lead, the Senior Engineer supervises staff, manages workload, and supports the consistent, high-quality implementation of City transportation policies and standards.

• Conduct and oversee technical review of roadway design, traffic signal modifications, streetscape improvements, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
• Review technical reports, traffic studies, and memorandums to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
• Manage and advance complex and high-profile development projects like Pleasant Hills Golf Course and LS Power, ensuring adherence to aggressive schedules and key milestones.
• Coordinate closely with internal partners, including Public Works (DPW) and Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement (PBCE), on development intake, design, and approval processes.
• Serve as a liaison across DOT sections and with external stakeholders, including developers, Council offices, community groups, and public agencies.
• Represent the Department at community meetings, Director’s Hearings, and Planning Commission meetings; present recommendations and address transportation-related concerns.
• Synthesize and coordinate input across departments to support timely decision-making and high-quality project outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with the City’s General Plan, multimodal policies, Complete Streets standards, and transportation design guidelines.
• Develop and review roadway design parameters and planlines for development projects; assign and monitor deadlines for in-house conceptual design tasks.
• Plan, implement, and monitor program activities, including workload distribution, performance metrics, and continuous process improvements.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of Citywide transportation design guidelines and standards.

The Position:

The Senior Planner is the advanced journey level classification in the professional Planner series. An incumbent in this classification is responsible for performing complex planning duties in the administration of land use regulations, the City's General Plan, Housing Element, environmental review, and design review.  The Senior Planner is distinguished from the Associate Planner classification as they perform lead, supervisory responsibilities.

This Senior Planner position will be primarily assigned to advanced or long-range planning implementing the City’s Housing Element, including preparing Annual Progress Reports, monitoring Regional Housing Needs Allocations, developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, data analysis & reporting, and community engagement activities.

The ideal candidate is expected to be familiar with state planning and housing laws, including state density bonus requirements, and Housing Element requirements. They should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the laws and the local implementing ordinances to ensure the City is in compliance. This position will also play a key role in advancing housing-related initiatives, many of which are part of the Housing Element programs.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter able to work independently, and with a team. They will be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, consultants, decision-makers, and the public. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements:

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Studies, Architecture, or closely related field.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Four (4) years of professional municipal or regional planning experience.

Acceptable Substitution:

• Two (2) years professional planning experience as an Associate Planner with the City of Santa Clara may be substituted for the required experience.

• A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in City Planning or closely related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), permit tracking software, such as Accela.

• Depending on position assignment, experience in a particular specialty such as current planning, advanced or long-range planning, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping, or database development.

• Experience developing and delivering public presentations.

• Planning experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.

• Possession of a certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).

Other Requirements: 

• Will be expected to work evenings and weekends as required.

• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.

Principal Planner

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Principal Planner to join the Community Development Department.  Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Community Development or Planning Officer, the Planning Division is organized into teams which are overseen by Principal Planners who plan, direct, perform and supervise a variety of complex technical planning activities, and related work as required, relative to the assigned area of responsibility.

• The Current Planning Team reviews and acts or makes recommendations on planning applications and performs reviews of building permit applications and business licenses for zoning compliance. 
• The Administrative Support Team supports the Planning Officer and all Planners for the City. This position may act as the Zoning Administrator, overseeing regulatory processes and issues related to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and other regulatory compliance and requirements, process improvements, training needs, coordination with area governments and other administrative and supervisory functions.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting a full-time Senior Civil Engineer for the Utilities Department.
