This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position working 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays; 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM on Wednesdays; and 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM on Fridays; with occasional evening and weekend hours.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Information Systems and Technology Division is responsible for the City's network infrastructure, cybersecurity, Help Desk support, and daily IT operations. The division supports a full-service city that includes City Administration, Police, Fire, Planning, Public Works, Parks, Beaches, and Recreation departments.

 

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, perform a variety of routine and complex duties in support of City-wide information systems, security, and technology operations. Perform systems administration, troubleshoot problems, and ensure data integrity; trains and assists end users in using new applications and systems.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a professional level position that requires significant administrative, analytical, and technical skills. This position serves as a technical leader, providing complex analytical support.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/ EXERCISED

Receive general supervision from higher-level management. May provide direction to support staff and oversee part-time staff and/or volunteers.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and monitor physical and virtual network and server infrastructure including hardware, software, real-time monitoring tools, peripherals, and devices ensuring effective performance and proper integration of components and systems with existing architecture; assist in infrastructure changes and upgrades to limit interrupted services.
• Administer automated deployment of software and updates over the network.
• Monitor and maintain security control of City network and server infrastructure; configure and monitor security features and firewall rules; verify and ensure proper user accessibility; identify and address vulnerabilities; research, recommend, and apply security updates as needed.
• Monitor disaster recovery and backup processes and schedules; verify that backups are successful and data can be recovered.
• Ensure database security by preparing access and control policies and procedures and reviewing permissions on a regular basis.
• Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and monitor City-wide telecommunications systems including voice and data communications infrastructure and equipment; set up and maintain user accounts, access groups, extensions, and voicemail boxes; troubleshoot system-wide outages.
• Work on systems and infrastructure conversion, installation, and maintenance projects, including planning, organizing, and defining project requirements, methods, and end objectives in consultation with end users; coordinate project activities with IT Manager and IT staff, end users, and vendors.
• Maintain information on scheduled systems maintenance, including upgrades and outages.
• Respond to and resolve users’ inquiries and complaints and escalate problems or issues to
•  vendor representatives as needed.
• Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in technology related to systems, network, server, and telecommunications; research, recommend, and evaluate vendor solutions and technologies; implement improvements upon approval.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required and other duties as assigned.
• Serve as a Disaster Service Worker, as required.

DESCRIPTION:

The Department:

The Santa Clara Fire Department was established in 1854 when local residents formed the Columbia Hose Volunteer Fire Company. Today, the city has 9 fire stations (one more in design process) consisting of 8 engines, 2 trucks, 1 rescue/light unit, 1 hazardous materials unit, 1 ambulance and 2 command vehicles. The fire department is comprised of 175 personnel staffed across five divisions and serves a population of approximately 130,000 people spread over 18.4 square miles.  The Fire Administration Division provides management, organization, and support for the various divisions of the fire department actively engaged in the protection of life and property.  The Emergency Medical Services Division is responsible for training personnel to deliver pre-hospital emergency medical services to people who live, work and visit in Santa Clara.  The Community Risk Reduction Division is primarily responsible for fire safety education, fire cause determination, inspection of high hazard occupancies, and fire code enforcement. This division also maintains a vital role as technical consultant to the fire department, the City, and the business community, advising on site construction, process installation, and the safe use and handling of hazardous materials as outlined in federal, state, and local regulations. The Field Operations Division efficiently manages over 11,000 emergency responses annually.  The Training Division provides services to the Fire Department, other City departments, industry, and the community at large.

The Position:

Firefighter I is the entry level classification in the Firefighter series. An incumbent in this classification responds to medical emergencies, fire alarms, performs rescue services, and protects life and property endangered by fire. When qualified and assigned, Firefighter I's may be assigned to paramedic duties. Performs related duties as assigned.

License/Certifications:

• A valid National Registry or State of California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate or proof of course enrollment in a valid EMT program is required at time of application.  Upon appointment to the classification, a valid National Registry or State of California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate is required to be possessed and maintained as a condition of employment.
• A valid California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (CFFJAC) Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card issued within 6 months prior to the date of a conditional offer of employment
• Successful completion of a City of Santa Clara approved Fire Academy is required within 6 months of appointment
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment. A valid California Class C driver's license with Firefighter endorsement is required within 24 months of appointment 
• All of the listed licenses and certifications must be maintained as a condition of continued employment in this classification for as long as they are required

Desirable Qualifications:

• Demonstrated proficiency in a second language, in accordance with the City's needs
• Military experience, journey-level status in the building construction trades, or other work experience relevant to the fire service
• Community service experience
• Completion of thirty (30) or more units of coursework in Fire Science/Technology at an accredited college
• An associate's or higher-level degree from an accredited college or university
• Possession of a valid California Paramedic (EMT-P) license (required prior to appointment to a Paramedic assignment)
• A valid California Class A or B commercial driver's license

Other Requirements:  

• Typically assigned to a 56-hour workweek (24-hour shifts); may be assigned to a 40-hour workweek as required
• May be required to work odd and unusual hours, including weekends and designated holidays and to be subject to call-back in the performance of job duties
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment

Physical Requirements:

• At least 21 years of age 
• Able to distinguish primary colors (red, green, amber), each eye free of any abnormal condition or disease which might affect performance of job duties, visual acuity in each eye of at least 20/50 vision (uncorrected) and 20/30 (corrected), and normal night vision 
• Normal hearing without correction in both ears
• Free from disabling speech impediments, disabling neuroses or psychoses, and disabling physical conditions or diseases 
• Strength and physical abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Firefighter I. A valid CFFJAC CPAT card issued within 6 months prior to the date of a conditional offer of employment is required.

The Department: 

The responsibilities of the City Attorney's Office consist of representing and advising the City Council and all City officers in all matters of law pertaining to their offices, representing and appearing on behalf of the City in all legal actions or proceedings, providing the City Council with information and advice regarding ongoing litigation and legislation affecting the City, and staffing City Council meetings and City boards and commission meetings as necessary. The Department:

The Finance Department administers the financial affairs of the City of Santa Clara, including City-owned public utilities. The department is comprised of five divisions, Administrative Services, Budget and Treasury, Accounting, Municipal Services, and Purchasing. Together these divisions carry out the mission of the Finance Department to ensure that the financial/fiscal activities of the City are performed, recorded, and presented in compliance with professional and ethical standards.

 

The Position: 

The Finance Department is seeking to recruit a Senior Management Analyst in the Accounting Division to support personnel management, general accounting, and accounts payable. The Senior Management Analyst will also be involved in the financial analysis of special grants and fund accounting and prepare periodic and annual reports for the City, its Agencies and Corporations, and the annual State Controller Reports. The incumbent would be a contributor of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report which includes Management’s Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), basic financial statements including notes, and supplementary information.

 

The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong accounting background and possess a bachelor's degree in a related field. This position will be required to perform high-level technical support and complex financial analysis related to accounting. Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or closely related field; and
• Three years of responsible professional journey-level experience in public administration which may include systems and procedures, budget, fiscal program and project coordination, or human resources programs.

 

Desirable Qualifications

A Master's degree in Public or Business Administration or closely related field is desirable.

Position Duties

 

The Library Department is seeking four (4) Literacy Program Specialists (LPS) to join our team and change the lives of those we serve! The ideal candidate for these positions will understand, support, practice and promote the Mission, Vision, & Values statements of the City of San José and the library; demonstrate leadership and a commitment to active customer service; have knowledge of current literacy technology and trends; have experience working with a diverse community and staff; and enjoy working in a fast-paced, innovative team environment.
 
Literacy Program Specialists are community connectors. They are responsible for coordinating programs and services provided by the library. They identify community needs, collaborate with partner organizations, and guide library customers to information and helpful resources. Specialists are responsible for performing a variety of professional duties including: implementing grants; planning/implementing or finding partners for library programs; conducting community outreach; evaluating the effectiveness of programs, computer software, and online learning tools; formulating a strong partnership with other Library units (Family Learning Centers, Early Education, Expanded Learning, College and Career Pathways, Digital Empowerment, and SJPL Works); and having knowledge of current literacy trends. The position will also oversee the worksite experience of participants within the workforce development program who are assigned to SJPL as their worksite and act as a liaison with key community partners. ESL and Workforce Development Grant Coordinator (Overstrength)*

SJPL is seeking a dynamic, mission-driven leader to coordinate and manage citywide ESL and workforce development programs, aligned with the evolving needs of our diverse community. This role will serve as the project lead for the prestigious Carnegie grant-funded initiative, Libraries as Pillars of Education and Democracy, aimed at strengthening SJPL’s role in civic education, economic mobility, and lifelong learning.  This strategic position blends direct program oversight with cross-sector collaboration, community engagement, volunteer training and grant management to advance equitable access to educational and economic opportunities for all San José residents.
