Position Duties

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

• Managing capital improvement projects, i.e., overseeing, controlling, and guiding the projects 
• Interfacing with the public, consultants, contractors, other City departments/sections, and other agencies, and responsible for timely response to the stakeholders' requests and concerns on projects. 
• Negotiating, preparing, and managing consultant agreements and/or construction contracts. 
• Working with client to prepare project scoping and budgeting. Tracking and managing project costs using appropriate tools and resources. 
• Preparing clearly written and effective reports and Council Memos. 
• Supervising staff such as Engineers and Engineering Technicians by prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. 
• Responsible for designing, procurement and construction management of capital projects. 
• Preparing and/or reviewing designs, improvement plans, estimates, specifications, and contract documents for capital improvement projects, private development or other engineering related projects that are prepared by subordinates and/or consultants engaged by the City or by private developers. 
• Reviewing and responding to Request for Information memos (RFIs) and submittals, negotiates change orders and reviews pay applications. 
• Supervising the collection and analysis of field data and prepares recommendations 
• Coordinating with construction inspectors and attends field meetings to resolve problems arising in the field during the construction of a public improvement project.

Deputy Director of Environmental Services Water Distribution/Sewer Collection

The City of Sunnyvale is currently recruiting for a Deputy Director of Environmental Services – Water Distribution/Sewer Collection to join the Environmental Services Department. Position Duties

The Fleet Management Division in Public Works Department is responsible for the management of the City’s fleet including the comprehensive inspection, maintenance, repair, acquisition, and disposal. The City’s vehicle and equipment fleet currently consists of over 2,700 assets. 

The Department of Public Works Fleet Management Division is recruiting to fill one (1) Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (EMA I/II) position. The EMA I/II is responsible for performing inspections, communicating with other staff and customers, servicing, installation of electronic electrical equipment, ordering parts, entering data in the fleet management system, road testing and diagnosing problems to make various repairs and adjustments on automotive, heavy truck and/or heavy equipment. While working under general supervision, the EMA I/II will be expected to perform safely and follow all rules required by the City of San Jose. These positions, depending on facility assignment, will require working various shift hours and overtime.

Equipment Mechanic Assistant (Parts) position orders, receives, and issues automotive, truck, and equipment parts. This position also researches and identifies select parts for issue, stocks and verifies inventories, and utilizes the fleet database to manage inventories.

The Code Enforcement Officer will respond to citizen concerns and proactively identify violations such as property maintenance issues, and zoning infractions. You will educate the public on code requirements through clear and respectful communication and work collaboratively with other city departments and external agencies to resolve issues. The Code Enforcement Officer is distinguished from the Supervisor by performing work of moderate difficulty and more routine tasks and duties assigned to this position within this classification series. These tasks involve inspections and enforcement of applicable ordinances pertaining to residential and commercial properties, housing, building construction, and other related regulations. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer will issue notices, citations, and follow up on compliance efforts in a fair and consistent manner. It is also imperative that the Code Enforcement Officer maintain accurate case files and documentation for possible legal proceedings.

Current and valid  water distribution certifications and Class A/B commercial drivers license are highly desirable. 

Classifications 

Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry-level class in the maintenance series. Under immediate supervision the applicant will perform semi-skilled labor and maintenance and repair. Salary $40,333.75 - $52,125.54 per year ($19.393 - $25.063 per hour) DOQ

Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level class in the maintenance series. Under general supervision the applicant will perform semi-skilled and skilled labor and maintenance repair. Salary $44,680.45 - $57,743.03 per year ($21.484 - $27.758 per hour) DOQ

Maintenance Worker III: This is the senior level class in the maintenance series. Under limited supervision the applicant will organize, assign, review, and participate in the work of assigned personnel engaged in maintenance equipment operation work pertaining to building, maintenance and repair. Salary $48,664.92 - $62,892.37 per year ($23.399 - $30.234 per hour) DOQ

The Department: 

The Department of Public Works (DPW) constructs, maintains and improves various components of the City’s infrastructure providing quality, cost-effective, and timely services for the residents and businesses of Santa Clara. This also includes support of other City Departments providing services to the community.  DPW support includes managing more than 750 fleet assets essential in delivering quality public safety, power, water, sewer, parks, and streets maintenance services to the City.

The Position: 

This classification is the entry level of the City's Automotive Technician series and reports to the Public Works Supervisor, Automotive Technician II/III, or higher-level classification as assigned.  Incumbents in this classification perform routine safety and preventative maintenance inspections of motorized vehicles and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from high school or equivalent.

 

Minimum Experience Requirements:

One (1) year of automotive or heavy equipment (truck or construction equipment) servicing work.

 

Acceptable Substitution: 

Course completion from an accredited institution or an appropriate trade school, or technical coursework from an accredited institution, in diesel or gasoline-powered mechanics leading to an Associate degree or journey level certification may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience.

Desirable Qualification: 

Possession of a valid California Class A driver's license with Air Brake Test is highly desirable.

License/Certifications: 

• Possession of an appropriate, valid California class C driver's license is required at time of appointment.
• Possession and maintenance of the following State of California Licenses and Certificates is required prior to completion of the probationary period:

                               Class A California driver's license with air brake test
                               ASE Certifications-A, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 and A9 or L1 or L3

• Incumbents shall be required to obtain and maintain any other license(s) and/or certificate(s) that may be required by future regulation for the performance of listed typical tasks.

Other Requirements:  

• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.
• Incumbents of this class may be required to work on a shift basis, and/or work unusual hours in emergency situations.
• Incumbents of this classification may be subject to drug and /or alcohol testing as mandated by federal regulations.
• Incumbents of this classification are required to provide tools for the automotive trade, based on job assignment and fleet composition.
