The Department

The South San Francisco Fire Department provides its residents with service in fire suppression; first-responder and ambulance transport emergency medical services; hazardous materials response; urban search and rescue; marine rescue and fire prevention, investigation and public education. The Department operates five (5) fire stations throughout the City, plus an Emergency Operations Center and Fire Training Tower and is comprised of 92 dedicated staff members.

The Position

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Under general supervision, engages in medical aid treatment and transport activities to protect life.
• Drives, operates, and maintains all assigned department apparatus and equipment.
• Assists and participates in training programs; public education.
• Accurately completes electronic patient care reports, physician certification statements, and incident reports.
• Performs other related duties as required. 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Mobility to work in both emergency and non-emergency settings.
• Ability to lift or carry up to 110 lbs.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle under both emergency and non-emergency conditions.
• Strength and stamina to perform service duties.
•  Vision sufficient to meet department standards.
• Hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person and via radio.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: None 

Training: Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Licenses/Certificates: All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
• Possession of a valid EMT or National Registry Certification, and the ability to be certified by San Mateo County EMS Agency.
• Must possess a valid CPR “Healthcare Provider” card, American Heart Association or equivalent.

Role description

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is looking for two 9180 Manager VI Senior Operations Managers of Maintenance: one manager for Bus Maintenance and one manager for Rail Maintenance.

9180 Senior Operations Manager of Bus Maintenance: Under policy direction of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Director of Transit, the Senior Operations Manager of Bus Maintenance plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the major activities of the Bus Maintenance unit. The Bus Maintenance unit represents more than 8 maintenance sections with skilled craft personnel responsible for the service, maintenance and repair of fleet comprised of more than 850 bio-diesel hybrid buses, electric trolley coaches and over 500 non-revenue vehicles and equipment including support facilities. 

9180 Senior Operations Manager of Rail Maintenance: Under policy direction of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Director of Transit, the Senior Operations Manager of Rail Maintenance plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the major activities of the Rail Maintenance unit. The Rail Maintenance unit represents more than 8 maintenance sections with skilled craft personnel responsible for the service, maintenance and repair of fleet comprised of more than 250 light rail vehicles, cable cars, and historic street cars including support facilities. 

9180 - Manager VI: Senior Operations Manager of Maintenance: The positions are responsible for leading overall vehicle and equipment maintenance, collaborating with fleet engineering for rubber-tire and/or rail cars, developing vehicle fleet plans to support revenue service requirements and monitoring activities related to vehicle procurement. These positions direct activities to ensure compliance with local, state and federal guidelines, safety and regulatory policies including leading investigation of activities directly related to field safety and overall vehicle maintenance.

The 9180 Senior Operations Managers of Maintenance are responsible for implementing programs and processes to enhance all aspects heavy and light-duty transit vehicles, and/or light rail and historic service. These positions provide leadership and guidance to a team of skilled craft personnel and supervisors, deliver highly complex management and policy support, and may be required to perform duties in the absence of the Deputy Director of Fleet Maintenance. The positions are subject to 24-hour callback during emergency situations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Bus and Rail Maintenance:

• Provides direction, planning and management of the daily activities of Transit’s Bus/Rail Maintenance section and coordinates the work of professional and technical personnel;
• Oversees heavy-duty transit vehicle maintenance/ light rail vehicle maintenance by monitoring daily fleet availability and vehicle maintenance reports for trends and coordinates with supervisory staff to ensure maintenance programs are developed and implemented to ensure vehicle availability;
• Ensures adherence to heavy-duty transit, light rail, historic, and/or cable car vehicle safety programs and re-evaluates existing programs;
• Assists in developing and implementing strategies for safe, accessible and reliable transit service;
• Analyzes operations to improve productivity within various work sections;
• Coordinates workforce planning through staffing analysis and required adjustments to work schedules and staffing levels to ensure maximum efficiency for fulfillment of vehicle service requirements and demands;
• May be involved with the design and review of engineering plans and specifications for SFMTA vehicle procurement plans and construction projects;
• Oversees the training function including the development of new training programs for rail staff;
• Develops, implements and evaluates policies and procedures to ensure unit activities align with division objectives;
• Assists in the development, preparation and modification of short and long-range strategic plans in support of the SFMTA’s goals;
• Interprets and applies the provisions of the labor agreements in accordance with SFMTA guidelines and serves as a member of the management team in meetings and negotiations with labor unions;
• Develops, monitors and manages the operating budget for area of responsibility and assists in the development, analysis and administration of department’s capital budget;
• Develops detailed technical reports for various internal stakeholders and external regulatory agencies; 

The 9180 – Manager VI may perform other duties as assigned/required. 

How to qualify

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; AND
2. Experience: Eight (8) years of experience at a mass transit agency in the operation, maintenance, and repair of transit buses, and/or light rail transit vehicles, and/or related systems, and/or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.  This experience must include at least four (4) years in a second-level supervisory and/or management-level position with responsibility for supervising staff. AND
3. License: Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Substitution: Additional qualifying experience in the functional areas listed above at any level (i.e., non-supervisory, any supervisory level, management level) may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for year basis. One year (2,000 hours) will be considered equivalent to thirty semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units.

Notes:

1. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

2. One (1) year full-time experience is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time experience.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of Senior Civil Engineer.  The Senior Civil Engineer performs complicated engineering, planning, design, and review activities and exercises lead supervision over others as assigned.  The work, projects, and systems assigned may involve managements of park field and facilities improvements, building facilities improvements, land development reviews & approvals, right-of-way permit process, roads and utilities improvements, transportation & traffic planning and improvements, and/or building construction. Position Summary

Under direction, perform varied professional and electrical engineering work at an advanced level of difficulty in the field and office. Perform assessments of and prepare written reports documenting the existing electrical systems and loads at existing facilities. Work with other engineers and technicians on design of new facilities and rehabilitation/retrofit of existing facilities. May supervise subordinate engineering personnel engaged in design and construction work. May act as resident engineer on major capital improvement projects and as oversight engineer on in-house maintenance and repair projects. Interpret, explain and carry out electrical engineering design, inspection and construction methods and procedures. Responsibilities include regular contact with other professional engineering personnel, as well as contractors and their representatives, and the general public, obtaining and providing technical electrical engineering data and information, preparing, checking and reviewing detailed and complex electrical engineering plans, specifications and related reports. • Performs detailed engineering calculations and analysis in connection with electrical design of utility systems for transportation facilities

• Works with other in-house and consultant engineering professionals and technicians to develop, prepare and finalize complete sets of construction bid documents for capital improvement and other construction projects

• Plans, schedules and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work either as part of a major project or for an entire project of smaller scope
• Makes investigations of contractual and construction problems that may arise on construction projects
• Inspects and supervises a wide variety of ordinary and complex construction projects to ensure compliance with contract plans and specifications
• Assists in the preparation of complex contract documents
• Conducts correspondence and prepare technical engineering reports in connection with a wide variety of projects

ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Position Summary

The Deputy General Manager, Bus Transit Division plans, organizes, and directs all activities of the Bus Transit Division and performs all duties and responsibilities subject to executive approval by the General Manager within limits of Board of Directors policy.  The Deputy General Manager, Bus Transit Division exercises the maximum degree of initiative and judgment in developing, coordinating, and executing policies, programs, methods, and procedures relating to operations, maintenance, administration, and related activities.   Responsibilities include routine high-level personal contact with transit agency personnel, civic groups, and members of boards and commissions.  This individual must have the ability to negotiate effectively, resolve conflict, and inspire others to achieve the vision of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District. The Deputy General Manager, Bus Transit Division collaborates extensively with the General Manager, District Board of Directors, Officers, Deputy General Managers for the Bridge Division, Ferry Division and Administration and Development Division and various department managers to formulate and implement strategic objectives to successfully execute the District’s mission. 

Essential Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and directs the administration, operations, safety, training, fleet and facility maintenance, and service scheduling activities of the Bus Transit Division.  Collaborates extensively with the Deputy General Manager-Ferry and other transit agencies to effectively coordinate service
• Oversees operations and maintenance at several facilities including San Rafael, San Francisco, Santa Rosa and Novato
• Directs and manages a customer-focused approach to services consistent with the District’s values, including service, respect, integrity, accountability, teamwork, safety and inclusion; establishes policies and procedures to address operational and administrative issues/challenges within that framework
• Leverages performance monitoring systems, programs and/or technologies for identifying strategies and approaches to achieving the most economical use of workforce and equipment while maximizing service for meeting ridership needs
• Champions the implementation of new technologies and innovative solutions in response to operating challenges and regulatory changes within the Bus Transit Division

• Participates in the preparation of procurement documents and makes recommendations to the General Manager and Board for acceptance of the various bids and proposals received
• Plans, assigns, reviews and evaluates work of staff; selects and trains employees as appropriate; responds and resolves personnel issues and problems; recommends and implements employee discipline
• Provides leadership in creating a work environment that encourages process and continuous improvement, performance management, communication, accountability, and collaborative problem solving
• Identifies and facilitates relevant training, workforce development, and teambuilding programs for promoting customer service and improvements to processes to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency

• Leads efforts to strengthen labor-management partnerships with Bus Division collective bargaining units, including the Workforce Investment Network (WIN) Partnership with ATU Local 1575 that provides the foundation for the Bus Operator Mentor, Pre-apprenticeship and Apprenticeship Programs
• Fosters relationships with community-based organizations (CBOs), local colleges, and other community stakeholders; leverages those relationships to strengthen GGT’s community presence and understanding of its services, to build local goodwill, and to access resources and/or services that support employee recruitment and retention efforts
• Monitors local, state and federal policies and regulations, analyzes their impact on the operational efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of the Golden Gate Transit (GGT) system; effectively communicates any impacts to the General Manager, District colleagues and internal staff
• Participates as a member of the District’s executive management team

DEFINITION
Under general direction, performs complex and responsible technical and clerical work for the Director of Human Resources and as administrative support to the City's Human Resources Department. Completes related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
An incumbent in this position is a Human Resources generalist performing a wide range of personnel assignments in administering and processing health and welfare benefits; managing the administrative duties associated with the Personnel Board and overseeing the preparation and management of all employee requisition and action forms; managing the office and providing administrative support to the Director of Human Resources, Assistant to the Director of Human Resources, Senior Management Analyst, the Human Resources Analyst(s) and Human Resources Specialist(s).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Including but not limited to maintaining frequent, sensitive and critical contacts with public and private agencies, other departments, professionals and officials; transmits information, decisions and directives. Answers inquiries by phone or email; investigates and resolves complaints or provides information, explains departmental or City procedures; exercises judgment in giving information and proper disposition of problems; composes correspondence and prepares reports. Maintains and files employees' personnel records and other departmental records; provides information to employees regarding benefits. Serves as Assistant for the Personnel Board, other related meetings, and disciplinary and appeal hearings by collecting, preparing, and sending agendas, taking and transcribing minutes, and typing and distributing minutes and other material. Processes and manages distribution retiree health reimbursement checks. Administers Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Program, tracks employee driving records and issues quarterly department list of commercial drivers’ medical expirations. May assist in responding to internal and external surveys. May assist department personnel with data entry on applicant tracking program, proctoring Civil Service examinations, in administering certification of active Civil Service Employment Lists using applicant tracking program, and assists with City-wide events. Processes employee separations and cafeteria plan worksheets, enters employee information into ERP system, tracks employee trainings; and processes invoices.

Provides support to the Director of Human Resources, Assistant to the Director of Human Resources, Senior Management Analyst, Human Resources Analyst(s) and Human Resources Specialist(s). Administers the documentation requirements of the 1986 Immigration and Control Act. Prepares and processes required Human Resources’ forms, such as new employee forms and employee Action Forms. Assists with preparation and publication of the employee newsletter. Maintains and orders office supplies and other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Ability to: Communicates effectively both orally and in writing; speaks to and direct large groups; Interacts positively and cooperate with co-workers, responds politely to customers, works as a team member, functions under demanding time pressure, responds in a positive manner to supervision, attends work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis. As a member of the Administrative Services team, the incumbent will plan, develop and implement activities related to the support, deployment, operation and usage of the City’s geographic information system (GIS). This position will coordinate projects related to management of interfaces, applications setup, business process review and customization and provide complex and responsible technical and analytical support to the Information Technology Manager in areas of expertise.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Library Information Technology Technician is distinguished from the Information Technology Analyst series in that the latter supports the following: computer systems for various departments’ citywide, data center operations, complex networking equipment, telephony and WAN technologies.  This class is further distinguished from the Library Systems Coordinator class in the latter is responsible for overall coordination of activities related to the library’s information system.

The City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department is looking responsible, enthusiastic, and team-oriented individuals to join our Aquatics Team!

Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 15 years old and able to obtain a work permit if under the age of 18. Candidates must complete and pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification, by June 1, 2026. While not required, Water Safety Instruction (WSI) certification is highly desirable.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure Patron Safety: The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to protect lives by preventing injuries and accidents. This includes remaining alert and vigilant, actively monitoring the pool and surrounding areas, recognizing hazards early, and responding quickly and effectively to emergencies—including water rescues, CPR, and first aid.
• Enforce Rules Consistently: Lifeguards help patrons stay safe by enforcing facility rules fairly and consistently. This involves monitoring behavior, addressing unsafe actions, and educating patrons about safe practices.
• Maintain a Clean and Safe Facility: Lifeguards assist with daily maintenance and cleanliness of the facility. Tasks may include checking and recording chemical levels, organizing and inspecting equipment (including rescue buoy, Shepard's hook, First Aid pack, etc...), picking up trash and debris, and reporting or addressing unsafe facility conditions.
• Availability: Ability to work a minimum 25 hours a week from June 15th – August 9th, including some weekends. Pre-planned and approved vacation requests may be accommodated.

Swim Instructor Job Responsibilities:

• Provide Instruction Across Levels: Teach swim lesson participants across a range of skill levels, following established curriculum and safety standards.
• Ensure Participant Safety: Maintain constant awareness and create a safe learning environment for all participants within your class.
• Maintain Professional Class Operations: Arrive prepared and work all scheduled hours, begin and end classes on time, stay afterward to answer participant or parent questions, and ensure all equipment and supplies are properly cleaned.
• Assess and Support Student Progress: Instruct, observe, and evaluate students’ skills and progress throughout the session, providing clear feedback and guidance.
• Complete Required Documentation: Accurately complete and submit report cards, skills sheets, attendance records, and any other required documentation on time.
