Position Summary

Under direction, perform varied professional and electrical engineering work at an advanced level of difficulty in the field and office. Perform assessments of and prepare written reports documenting the existing electrical systems and loads at existing facilities. Work with other engineers and technicians on design of new facilities and rehabilitation/retrofit of existing facilities. May supervise subordinate engineering personnel engaged in design and construction work. May act as resident engineer on major capital improvement projects and as oversight engineer on in-house maintenance and repair projects. Interpret, explain and carry out electrical engineering design, inspection and construction methods and procedures. Responsibilities include regular contact with other professional engineering personnel, as well as contractors and their representatives, and the general public, obtaining and providing technical electrical engineering data and information, preparing, checking and reviewing detailed and complex electrical engineering plans, specifications and related reports. Perform related duties as required.

 

Essential Responsibilities

• Performs assessments of electrical systems and prepare written reports documenting the capacity and limitations of the systems
• Performs detailed engineering calculations and analysis in connection with electrical design of utility systems for transportation facilities 
• Prepares and supervises the preparation of detailed electrical engineering designs, drawings, specifications, cost estimates and quantity estimates for a wide range of electrical construction and maintenance projects
• Works with other in-house and consultant engineering professionals and technicians to develop, prepare and finalize complete sets of construction bid documents for capital improvement and other construction projects 
• Reviews consultants submittals and work products to ensure compliance with required scope of work and deliverables 
• Reviews contractors' work to ensure compliance with plans and specifications
• Plans, schedules and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work either as part of a major project or for an entire project of smaller scope
• Makes investigations of contractual and construction problems that may arise on construction projects
• Inspects and supervises a wide variety of ordinary and complex construction projects to ensure compliance with contract plans and specifications
• Assists in the preparation of complex contract documents
• Conducts correspondence and prepare technical engineering reports in connection with a wide variety of projects
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to their job
• Ensures that employees under their supervision follow established safe work practices and obey all safety rules
• Meets and consults with department officials, engineers and contractors on technical engineering matters

The City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department is looking responsible, enthusiastic, and team-oriented individuals to join our Aquatics Team!

Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 15 years old and able to obtain a work permit if under the age of 18. Candidates must complete and pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification, by June 1, 2026. While not required, Water Safety Instruction (WSI) certification is highly desirable.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure Patron Safety: The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to protect lives by preventing injuries and accidents. This includes remaining alert and vigilant, actively monitoring the pool and surrounding areas, recognizing hazards early, and responding quickly and effectively to emergencies—including water rescues, CPR, and first aid.
• Enforce Rules Consistently: Lifeguards help patrons stay safe by enforcing facility rules fairly and consistently. This involves monitoring behavior, addressing unsafe actions, and educating patrons about safe practices.
• Maintain a Clean and Safe Facility: Lifeguards assist with daily maintenance and cleanliness of the facility. Tasks may include checking and recording chemical levels, organizing and inspecting equipment (including rescue buoy, Shepard's hook, First Aid pack, etc...), picking up trash and debris, and reporting or addressing unsafe facility conditions.
• Availability: Ability to work a minimum 25 hours a week from June 15th – August 9th, including some weekends. Pre-planned and approved vacation requests may be accommodated.

Swim Instructor Job Responsibilities:

• Provide Instruction Across Levels: Teach swim lesson participants across a range of skill levels, following established curriculum and safety standards.
• Ensure Participant Safety: Maintain constant awareness and create a safe learning environment for all participants within your class.
• Maintain Professional Class Operations: Arrive prepared and work all scheduled hours, begin and end classes on time, stay afterward to answer participant or parent questions, and ensure all equipment and supplies are properly cleaned.
• Assess and Support Student Progress: Instruct, observe, and evaluate students’ skills and progress throughout the session, providing clear feedback and guidance.
• Complete Required Documentation: Accurately complete and submit report cards, skills sheets, attendance records, and any other required documentation on time.

The City of Menlo Park is hiring Recreation Specialists to support City-operated Summer Camp programs serving children ages 4.5 through 13 years old for programs running June 15th through August 14th, 2026.

Under general supervision, Recreation Specialists provide direct supervision of participants and assist with age-appropriate recreational, enrichment, and physical activities in compliance with California Community Care Licensing (Title 22) requirements and City policies. This position requires active engagement with children, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to maintain required staff-to-child ratios.

This is an hourly, at-will, part-time (non-benefited) position offering paid training and valuable experience in youth development and public service.
 
Schedule

• Part to Full-day summer camp shifts
• Up to 8.5 hours per day, including a 30-minute unpaid meal period
• Potential opportunity for continued part-time employment during the school year in our after school programs or other recreation programs.

Essential Duties

• Supervise and engage children in a safe, inclusive environment

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Ferry Mechanic performs preventative, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, and modifications on structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, piping and control systems found on ferry vessels and passenger terminals; performs related work as assigned. Responsibilities include record keeping and written verification of work accomplished.

Salary Range:  
Day Shift:               $56.32 per hour
Swing Shift:           $56.32 per hour + 10% differential pay
Graveyard Shift:    $56.32 per hour + 15% differential pay

Essential Responsibilities

• Working with computers on a daily basis for work scheduling, work order entry and work order reporting on the Districts electronic maintenance system in addition to notifications and communications.
• Conducts tests, analyses and measurements as directed to diagnose any unusual, erratic or malfunctioning occurrence in any shipboard or terminal system or component.
• Reports any unusual wear patterns, noise, pressure, temperature, or changes in voltage, current, cycles, resistance or any other indication of potential malfunction.
• References manufacturer schematics including blueprints, drawings and specifications to resolve maintenance issues.
• References parts catalogues and other sources to determine correct parts for specific applications.
• Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs and overhauls as directed.
• Documents and records work performed and parts and materials used in the electronic maintenance system. 
• Reports all safety hazards and corrects unsafe situations immediately where possible.
• Immediately reports to supervisor any potential maintenance problem or condition which could cause a possible schedule delay.
• Maintains all work areas, special tools and equipment used in performing maintenance function, in a clean and orderly manner.
• Operate a forklift and other equipment/vehicles safely.
• Interacts on a regular basis with vessel operations personnel.
• Adheres to the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service. 
• Performs additional related duties as assigned.

The City of Millbrae has multiple openings for the Recreation Leader (Summer Camp Counselor) position! This position will focus on our Millbrae Adventure Summer Camp, working as a Camp Counselor.  Hours will vary, and applicants are expected to be available to work full camp weeks. Recreation Leaders are also expected to attend a mandatory, paid training.

 

Definition: Under supervision, to provide leadership to recreation programs, activities or service; organizes and implements program elements and oversees participants; and performs related work as required.  This is a temporary part-time non-benefited position. 

 

Essential Duties:  Depending upon assignment, the duties of a Summer Camp Counselor - Recreation Leader I , II or III may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assists in planning, organizing, and leading summer camp activities.
• Organizes, inventories and maintains necessary facilities and materials.
• Maintains group and individual discipline. 
• Facilitates safe and positive camp experiences
• Follow written curriculum to implement activities including arts and crafts, group games, and sports.  
• Keeps records of attendance, participation.
• Typical duties include: implementation of camp curriculum, record keeping, maintaining supplies, and supervising groups of youth aged 3 to 12.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

 

Special Requirements:   Vision adequate to supervise participants in recreational programs; speak clearly; ability to bend stoop or crouch; physical stamina to supervise groups of youth participating in recreational programs; ability to work off-hours, shifts or events as required; strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds; and the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Knowledge of: 

• Common crafts, sports, games and recreation activities appropriate for all ages.
• Principles and methods used in organizing, conducting and supervising a program of recreational activities.
• Record keeping techniques.
• Basic first aid and safety practices and procedures.
• Basic youth development principles.

 

 Ability to: 

• Conduct daily camp operations including leading groups, activities, field trips, and set-up/break down of activities.
• Prioritize and handle multiple program tasks.

Education & Experience: 

Recreation Leader I:  Current enrollment in high school, with minimum age of 15 at time of appointment.  Must possess a work-permit. No previous experience required.

 

Recreation Leader II:  Current enrollment in high school, with minimum age of 16 at time of appointment.  Equivalent to three (3) months of full-time experience (approximately 500 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience in recreation programs or equivalent. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable. 

 

Recreation Leader III:  Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade.  Equivalent to six (6) months full-time experience (approximately 1000 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience equivalent to a Recreation Leader II with the City of Millbrae. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable.

  

Certificates:  Must possess a first aid/CPR certification, or be willing to obtain one. 

 

Service Standards:  

Must successfully complete background process.  All candidates will be fingerprinted pursuant to California State Law.  All successful candidates under age 18 must possess a work permit prior to hire.
