ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is hiring two part-time Recreation Specialist positions, each with a distinct focus. One position will support Youth, Adaptive, and Senior programs, while the other will focus specifically on serving the East Gilroy neighborhood with various recreation programs. Both roles will involve leading programs for socio-economically disadvantaged youth, teens, and adults, managing part-time staff, program planning, administering grants, and collaborating with local organizations and public agencies.
 
Under general supervision of a Recreation Manager, Recreation Supervisor, or Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Specialist will plan, organize, and direct the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs. Program areas include but are not limited to: Adaptive (special needs), Adult and/or Youth Sports such as organized leagues or classes, After School Program, Cultural Arts, Facility Attendant, Senior Center, Special Events, Summer Camps, Theater, and Youth Center/Youth Services. This is an entry-level, paraprofessional position supporting the Recreation Division.

The City of San Jose is hiring for an Enterprise Resource Planning Modernization Technical Project Manager (Enterprise Supervising Technology Analyst) to lead the project to modernize the City’s ERP System. This is a multi-year project with the first phase being to identify a solution and an ERP implementation partner.
 
The position will be dedicated to managing the consolidation and replacement of the City’s aging ERP applications with a modern and robust ERP system. The ERP Technical Project Manager will partner with the Finance Department and City stakeholders to bring on a consulting firm to oversee the execution of the project. Thereafter, the ERP Technical Project Manager will partner closely with the consulting firm and the Finance Department’s Functional Project Manager to evaluate the City’s current ERP systems, identify gaps and improvements, define the project scope, objectives, and timelines, and manage the project team to ensure the ERP project is delivered on-time and on-budget. 
 
In this role, you would serve as a technical project manager for the modernization of the City’s ERP systems. Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

• Leading the technical workstream for the City’s ERP Modernization project.
• Partner with the Finance and IT sponsors and stakeholders to evaluate, select and onboard a consulting firm to oversee the execution of the project.
• Partner with the consulting firm, Finance Department, and IT stakeholders to evaluate the City’s current ERP systems, identify gaps and improvements, and define the ERP Modernization project scope.
• Collaborate with the project’s cross functional and technical teams and leads to communicate and escalate cross functional and technical impacts.
• Provide oversight and coordination of all technical workstream activities, including status reporting, resourcing, requirements, design, build, test, and deployment tasks.
• Develop, maintain, and operate the project management structure for the ERP implementation, including selection, configuration, deployment and operation of project management tools, project management processes and project reporting.
  • Define and document project scope, objectives, and success criteria with particular focus on alignment with business objectives.
  • Create and maintain project plans, including schedules, timeline, tasks, and budget.
  • Break down complex tasks into actionable work items, with accurately estimated required time and effort, appropriate sequencing plus alignment of co-dependent activities.
  • Determine resource requirements: identify and schedule appropriate people and assets.
  • Manage day to day activities against project plans and identify issues or bottlenecks requiring escalation or resolution.
• Assist in defining and managing project governance roles and parameters.

Salary Information: The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Enterprise Supervising Technology Analyst (ESTA) classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

• Salary Range (including the 5% NPWI): $141,697.92 – $172,645.20

 The ESTA classification is represented by the City Association of Management Personnel (CAMP).

The City of Sausalito Police Department is seeking empathetic, driven, collaborative Police Officer Trainees. The Police Officer Trainee learns to enforce Federal, State, and local laws and to respond to calls for the protection of life and property by attending a basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified training academy to obtain the basic skills and fitness level necessary for the performance of Police Officer duties. This position requires a thorough background investigation, a polygraph/voice stress analysis examination, a psychological assessment, and a medical exam prior to appointment.

 

The Department: 
Silicon Valley Power (SVP) is the City of Santa Clara’s municipal public power utility. Located in Northern California’s Santa Clara County, SVP is primarily a distribution utility contained within a roughly twenty square mile footprint and embedded within the much larger PG&E utility system. SVP operates under the jurisdiction of the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) and the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC). SVP operates voltages of 230kV and 115kV (transmission), 60kv (sub-transmission), and 12kV (distribution). Its peak load in 2024 was 718MW and has the ability to generate up to 200MW internally. SVP has roughly 60,000 meters with 90% of the load industrial-commercial and 10% residential. SVP is a NERC registered utility and conforms to NERC 693 and CIP reliability standards. It is the mission of SVP to be a progressive, service-oriented utility, offering reliable, competitively priced services for the benefit of the City and its customers. The Position:  
Electric and Water System Operators (EWSO) ensure that all Electric, Water and Storm sewer systems are operated reliably, efficiently and effectively in a safe manner and restoring service in a timely way to all customers.  The EWSO has responsibility for monitoring and operation of the City's municipal electric power, water, transmission and distribution systems and for coordinating planned and unplanned power outages. As a Transmission Operator, operating personnel in this position have the responsibility to comply with NERC reliability standards and the authority to implement real-time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System. These efforts are coordinated with the appropriate Reliability Coordinator (RC), affected Transmission Operator(s) (TO) and affected Balancing Authorities (BA). This position is staffed 24/7 365 utilizing a rotation of 12 hour shifts with Operators alternating between days and nights.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements:

• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED

• 1) Two (2) years of experience in an electric utility performing complex load dispatching and switching

• 2) Four (4) years of experience in an electric utility as a generating plant or substation operator with sub-dispatching responsibility

• 3) Four (4) years of experience with the City of Santa Clara Electric Department, including at least one (1) year as an journey-level or higher, electrician or lineman/linewoman 

• 4) Completion of a recognized State of California Electric System Operator apprentice program

Desirable Qualification:  A valid Transmission Operator Certificate issued by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)

LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

CERTIFICATES: Possession of the following certificate is required within one year of hire date and for the duration of appointment:

• A valid Water Distribution System Operator Certificate (Grade D-1 or above) issued by the California Department of Health Services (DHS).

• A valid Transmission Operator Certificate issued by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC).

Incumbents will be required to obtain and maintain any other license or certification mandated by NERC for the position of Transmission Operator and necessary for the performance of duties under the current scope of responsibilities pertaining to the SVP Transmission System.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Incumbents may be assigned to work on a rotating 12-hour shift schedule

• Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, to schedules that may include weekends, holidays, and non-traditional work hours; and a willingness to work overtime as required

• Incumbents may have to pass an initial and periodic comprehensive background checks, which may include fingerprinting, to meet Federal, State and/or industry security requirements

• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.

Definition
Under general supervision, the Light Rail Power Supervisor supervises and coordinates the overhead power and substation maintenance and repair of the light rail system.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the first full supervisory level in the maintenance and repair of electric power systems for light rail, including overhead and substations. The next higher class of Light Rail Way, Power and Signal Superintendent manages the overall activities of the program and supervises this class.

About Way, Power & Signal Maintenance
Way, Power & Signal Maintenance is responsible for timely and reliable maintenance, preventive maintenance, inspections, repair and servicing of the light rail right-of-way, rail system power, tracks, signals, station facilities and related equipment. Components of the Way, Power & Signal unit are:
 

• Station & Wayside Maintenance: Station & Wayside Maintenance maintains and repairs (including graffiti removal) light rail stations, terminal buildings, restrooms, park & ride lots, landscaping, fences, guardrails, and other trackside areas.

• Track Maintenance: Track Maintenance maintains (including right-of-way weed eradication, vegetation control, and graffiti removal), performs preventive maintenance, inspects, services and repairs rail, switches, ties, roadbed, and track systems.

• Power Maintenance: Power Maintenance maintains (including trackside right-of-way tree trimming), performs preventive maintenance, inspects, repairs, and services light rail electric power systems, including overhead, substations, lighting, and other electrical systems.

• Signal Maintenance: Signal Maintenance maintains, performs preventive maintenance, inspects, repairs, and services signal systems, crossing gates, fare machines, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) controls, and station audio/video equipment.

• Passenger Facilities Maintenance: Passenger Facilities Maintenance maintains, performs preventive maintenance, inspects, repairs, and services all VTA-maintained passenger facilities, including bus stops. Services include: bench installation, painting and repair, core drilling for poles at new bus stops, garbage collection, trash receptacle installation and relocation, graffiti abatement, litter removal, pressure washing, red curb painting, signage inspection, route updates, and sweeping services. Janitorial services for transit centers are provided daily through a Facilities Maintenance service contract with a third-party vendor. Guadalupe

Essential Job Functions

Typical Tasks

• Plans, schedules and supervises the inspection, maintenance and repair of overhead power and substations;
• Coordinates with all affected personnel to maintain safety and continued operations;
• Supervises and performs inspections and repairs of all overhead contact wires, poles, support cables, insulators, switch gears and rail bonds;
• Supervises and performs inspection and repairs of traction power voltage, monitor systems, charging systems, circuit breakers and other electrical substation systems;
• Supervises and performs inspections and repairs of lighting and other electrical systems;
• Operates hi-rail vehicles;
• Serves as department representative in interaction with other VTA departments and outside agencies;
• Responds to calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
• Hires, trains, counsels and disciplines workers;
• Performs safety training and supervises safe work practices;
• Prepares written reports, documents defects and repairs on inspection forms, work orders, or designated computer programs;
• Operates computer for related data input and retrieval;
• May represent VTA at disciplinary hearings;
• Makes estimates of labor, time, costs and materials;

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards
Sufficient education, training and experience to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Development of the required knowledge, skills and abilities is typically obtained through the equivalent of six (6) years of experience in electrical/electronic maintenance, including one (1) year in an electrified rail or high voltage power supervisory position AND the equivalent of completion of a recognized apprenticeship program for electricians.

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to qualify for and maintain a Class B license.

Position Duties

It would be highly desirable for the successful candidate to have experience and knowledge of policy as well as event planning. Responsibilities for the position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Represents the elected official at neighborhood or community meetings and activities, City-related boards/commission meetings and other meetings with government agencies, private industry, and related meetings. 
• Provides legislative support (legislative and policy research, responding to stakeholder inquiries, etc.) to the elected official.
• Gathers background information relative to issues pending before the City Council.
• Analyzes a wide variety of materials on assigned projects, programs, and topics.
• Provides communication support such as drafting correspondence, preparing memoranda or reports which articulate the elected official’s proposals, priorities, and positions on matters pending before the City Council or other governmental agencies.
• Assists in preparation of speeches, articles, or other communications for the elected official. 
• Responds to a variety of constituent inquiries, resolving complaints, and interpreting operating policies for residents of the community and other interested parties.
• Plans, coordinates, and leads community meetings and special events.
• May provide training and supervision of interns and volunteers.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as required.

Employees in this classification are not members of the classified civil service and appointment would be on a contract “at-will” basis and is for a specified period of time to be determined by the appointing elected official and does not extend past the end of the elected official's term. Candidates must be willing to work evenings and weekends on occasion, and as exempt management employees, are not eligible for overtime compensation. • Provides communication support such as drafting correspondence, memoranda, or reports for routine to complex matters related to neighborhood or community concerns, pending issues before the City Council or another governmental body; state or federal legislation; or other matters. 
• Assists in preparation of speeches and talking points for the Councilmember.
• Develops and maintains positive working relationships with council offices, community organizations, residents, business community, non-profit organizations, and government agencies as they are key partners on policy and as a representative of the Councilmember's Office.
• Coordinates arrangements for meetings, programs, or other civic functions on behalf of the Councilmember.
• Attends meetings and community events with the Councilmember, requires availability on evenings and weekends.
• Analyzes a wide variety of materials on assigned projects, programs, and topics.
• Responds to constituent inquiries and issues, resolving complaints, and interpreting operating policies for residents of the community and other interested parties.
• Attends and represents the Councilmember at City-related meetings and activities, meeting with governmental agencies, private industry, and related meetings.

Employees in this classification are not members of the classified civil service and appointment would be on a contract “at-will” basis and is for a specified period of time to be determined by the appointing elected official and does not extend past the end of the elected official's term. DEFINITION: Under general supervision, instructs classes in swimming, enforces all rules and regulations pertaining to the safety and well-being of visitors and patrons. Perform related work as required.

• Lead all levels of swimming to all age groups.
• Provide corrective feedback and proper stroke technique.
• Maintain structure and discipline within a group setting, while encouraging and promoting student participation in a positive manner.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city employees, other agencies, and the general public.
• Respond professionally to emergencies, provide care as indicated under the scope of training.
• Actively attend and participate in required staff training and in-service drills.
• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
• The ability to speak English clearly and understandably.
• Perform related duties as required.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Must possess current ARC Water Safety Instruction certification. WSI certification is preferred but no required. CPR certification within 6 months of hire. ABA training is a desired skill. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and react quickly to emergencies.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. Candidates must be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency and providing care according to the level of training.

Position Duties

The Council District Offices 2, 6, and 10 are up for election this year. The incoming elected officials will be recruiting for positions. The Council Community Relations Coordinator position will serve as a community relations representative in direct support of an elected official. The position will coordinate media communication and public information efforts for the Council District offices. Education and/or experience in the fields of public relations, communications, journalism, public information, web design, or marketing is highly desirable. Strong writing skills, communication skills, and computer proficiency with a firm grasp of social media tools and platforms are essential in this position. As well as the ability to develop and maintain effective relations with constituents and organizations with a positive and professional demeanor when working in public. Bilingual language skills (Vietnamese, Spanish, and/or Chinese), both oral and written, are desirable, but not required.
 
Responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Planning, writing, and managing monthly external communications.
• Designing flyers, graphics, and material for community and public information.
• Updating and designing web and social media content. 
• Collaborating with staff on ideas for media and communication outreach to disseminate the Councilmember’s message to various audiences.
• Engaging and collaborating with constituents, organizations, and city staff as needed.
• Media relations and tracking.
• Planning and coordinating media events, interviews, and responses on behalf of the elected official.

About the Department

The mission of the San Jose Police Department is to create safe places to live, work and learn through community partnerships. 

Position Duties

 

The City of San Jose is recruiting for a part-time School Crossing Guards in the Police Department during the normal school year.  Work involves providing for the safe conduct of elementary and junior high school children across heavily traveled streets and reporting problems requiring possible police action. Positions may involve substituting at different corners or a regular location assignment.  In general, these assignments are a split shift with approximately ten (10) hours per week.  School Crossing Guards are required to work outside regardless of weather conditions and must be able to provide a uniform as specified by the Police Department.   Work includes outside duties and exposure to weather.  Work may include the physical ability to sit, stand, walk quickly, step up/down from the curb, reach, push and/or pull, twist and or rotate, bend, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, use hands hold and use a stop sign the entire shift, use other hand to stop traffic and use a whistle at the same.
