THE POSITION
The City of Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and experienced Swim Team Coach for Campbell Wave Swim Team, ages 6-18 years old, at the Campbell Community Center. This position reports to the Aquatics Recreation Specialist. 

Salary Range: $17.00 to $25.00 per hour DOQ

Part-Time, Temporary Non-Benefited position

Schedule: Actual work schedule to be determined through mutual agreement with supervisor. Employee may be required to work weekends.

Location: Campbell Community Center, 1 West Campbell Avenue, Campbell

Responsibilities: 

• Swim team coordination with Aquatics Recreation Specialist;  
• Prepares and implements work-outs;
• Tracks and encourages team enrollment;
• Maintains various records;
• Organizes and attends swim meets;
• Evaluates stroke technique;
• Assists with budget preparation;
• Has thorough knowledge of emergency response protocol, risk management and emergency care
• Complies and enforces all City of Campbell and Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department policies and procedures.

In addition, the essential functions of employment include:

• Assistance in developing, organizing and supervising daily operations and practices;
• Assistance in evaluating Campbell Wave swim team program;
• Documentation including daily participant attendance;
• Planning, execution and evaluation of swim meet participation;
• Professional interaction and effective communication with children, swimmers and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum age at time of hire is 18 years old.
• Two (2) or more years of swim coaching experience
• Valid California Driver’s license.
• Current CPR certification.
• Safety Training for Swim Coaches or Lifeguard Training certification.
• TB Clearance.
• Fingerprint clearance (Department of Justice background check). The City of Campbell will schedule fingerprint appointment and encumber cost upon hire.

Highly desirable, but not mandatory upon hiring: 

• Professional certification(s), including American Swim Coaches’ Association or USA
• Swimming Coaching, CPR, Safety Training for Swim Coaches or Lifeguard Training.

For the Senior Engineer, the salary range listed above reflects the full compensation potential for this position. ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time Senior Civil Engineer or an Engineer II (dependent on qualifications) for the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. In this exciting opportunity the incumbent will play a pivotal role in shaping infrastructure and overseeing key projects vital to the growth and development of the City of Gilroy.  The Senior Civil Engineer will work under the direction of the City Engineer and/or the Public Works Director and is afforded the authority and discretion to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Section. The Senior Civil Engineer classification is an exempt, mid-management level position. 

The Engineer II will play a critical role in designing, managing and delivering Capital Improvement projects that improve essential city infrastructure. From planning and budgeting to implementation, your work will positively affect thousands of residents daily, supporting the city’s mission to create a safe, connected, and vibrant community. Although this position is dedicated to CIP, in order to appropriately respond to community needs, the Engineer II may also provide support to the Land Development and Transportation engineering sections, so adaptability and flexibility are keys to success in this position. The Engineer II is a journey-level position that will work under the direct supervision of a Senior Engineer or City Engineer and will perform professional engineering work in the field and office. The Public Works Department is responsible for providing high quality, safe and effective maintenance, operation and construction of streets, parks, storm drainage and related infrastructure. The Department is under new leadership with a renewed focus on master infrastructure planning, proactive capital maintenance and replacement, traffic engineering and customer service. Pipeline public projects include completion of the Civic Center Master Plan, design and bid of the new Santa Teresa Fire Station, a $7 million pavement rehabilitation project, a $3 million San Ysidro Park remodel project, and completion of Traffic Impact Fee Study. The City is processing multiple large private projects including an almost one million square foot Amazon data center as well as multiple residential subdivisions and multi-family projects.

These programs help protect our waterways and the San Francisco Bay by ensuring that businesses and residents are implementing best management practices to prevent water pollution and are in compliance with Federal and local water quality regulations. Environmental Compliance Inspectors work closely with a wide variety of businesses to ensure that the composition of their wastewater is in compliance with City requirements and does not compromise the integrity of the City's Water Pollution Control Plant or the sewer collection system. Such businesses range from aerospace and semiconductor manufacturers to dental offices and restaurants. The inspection team is also advancing multiple stormwater initiatives such as trash reduction and controls for pollutants of concern such as mercury and PCBs.

Under general direction, performs journey level inspection and enforcement activities on industrial, commercial, and residential discharges to the sewage and storm drain system for compliance with codes and laws regulating waste processes; and does other related work, as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, microbiology, environmental science, environmental or chemical engineering,  AND
 
One year of increasingly responsible experience in the collection and analysis of industrial or other wastewater/water samples, or one year of increasingly responsible experience in conducting environmental or regulatory inspections.

 

Licenses/Certificates

Possession at time of hire and continued maintenance of a valid Class C California driver's license and a safe driving record.

About the Position:  The incumbent will be a part of a cohesive team of 15 in the Natural Resources Department, which is part of the Visitor and Field Services service line. The Wildlife Program is comprised of four fulltime program staff, including this position, and an intern. The position is a working supervisor meaning that time is divided between program administration, oversight, and staff development while also managing and advancing District projects. Strong supervisory and project management skills are required, as well as an ability to shift seamlessly between program and personnel management. This position works not only within the Natural Resources Department but is often a liaison with other departments and external agencies to advance larger District programs and projects. Wildlife program staff currently specialize in different subject matter expertise, but cross training is provided and providing back up to one another in differing area is expected. The supervisor manages and assigns program staff to oversee and assist with different projects primarily based on their areas of expertise, but also based on available staffing. The wildlife program covers a broad range of topics including but not limited to: permit administration, wildlife conflict management, special status species monitoring and research.

• Possesses a broad breadth of understanding of wildlife management for wide ranging taxa from large megafauna to micro invertebrates

• Experience in negotiating and securing permits (ideally programmatic permits) from regulatory agencies primarily California Department of Fish and Wildlife and US Fish and Wildlife Service but may include US Army Corps of Engineers or Regional Water Quality Control Board.
• Experience overseeing sensitive status species monitoring, reporting and recovery efforts
• Supervisory experience for multiple staff and consultant biologists, strong leadership skills, and the ability to mentor and grow junior staff
• Is a creative thinker, problem solver and able to juggle competing priorities
• Strong background in project management, from developing project scopes, schedules and budgets to consultant and contract oversight
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team to deliver capital projects while avoiding and minimizing impacts to sensitive natural resources
• Assists staff in designing projects to reduce the need for mitigation, understands mitigation monitoring and reporting, and works creatively to secure mitigation when needed

Work Environment:  This position will report to Midpen’s Administrative Office in Los Altos, CA.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work schedule for this position following successful onboarding. A Master’s Degree is desirable. Professional work experience with parks and open space is highly desired.

Library Assistant

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the position of full-time Library Assistant in Circulation/Borrower Services with a friendly, confident, energetic, and highly motivated individual who possesses excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience working closely with the public and coordinating workflow in a fast-paced library circulation environment. They will possess leadership skills and demonstrate the ability to provide excellent customer service to members of the public and staff alike. Key responsibilities include providing customer service to patrons, resolving customer service issues, guiding staff with work assignments, and monitoring and troubleshooting self-check, automated materials handling and other technology.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education/Experience

 

Graduation from high school or tested equivalent; AND

One year of increasingly responsible library experience which includes or is supplemented by in-service training or college level courses in library science.

 

Salary:  $34.58 - $44.14 Hourly

DESCRIPTION:

Substitute preschool instructor plans, organizes, and implements a program of instruction for preschool as part of scheduled recreation activities; develops courses to be a part of preschool, inventories, and maintains material and equipment requirements for program; supervises and trains Preschool aides and volunteer assistants to assist in conducting the program as needed; assists in publicizing programs to the general public; represents the City before general public as part of assigned functions; coordinates assigned program activities with other departmental programs.

 

Class Characteristics

This classification differs from that of a Preschool Teacher which is an as needed position. Substitute teachers are responsible for assisting the preschool teachers as needed, on an on-call basis with no set schedule. This is a part-time temporary, non-benefited position limited to 995 hours per fiscal year.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives direct or general direction from the Recreation Coordinator. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

Engage with participants in a variety of positive, fun, and age-appropriate activities. Typical activities include, but are not limited to: arts, crafts, reading, snack preparation, indoor and outdoor play, field trips, and special events.

Supervises program participants.

Assists with leading activities, programs, and events.

Maintains a positive and safe work environment.

Encourages participation and facilitates activities.

Supports fellow Preschool Teachers and participates in maintenance of facility and equipment.

Attend staff meetings and respect departmental policies and procedures.

Answer questions and field complaints from customers and refer them to appropriate staff.

Performs other duties as required.

Open and close classrooms and facilities for weekday, weekend, and evening recreation classes and events.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be 18 years of age and have an equivalent of two years college and minimum of one year experience in facilitating a program for preschool age children or two years related experience in a leadership position working with preschool age children. At least 15 units of college level courses in Early Childhood Education are mandatory. Current Certifications in CPR and First Aid are desirable. The Preschool Instructor should have knowledge of safety precautions, and should possess a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

 

Ability to:

Manage time effectively, show initiative, and work independently.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with teammates, parents, volunteers, and other members of the community.

Learn policies and procedures applicable to the operation of the City.

Work with a diverse population in a tactful and effective manner.

Transport self to and from work.

Education and Experience

Must have 500 HOURS of related work experience, such as: facilitating recreation/educational classes, recreational camp experience for youth/teens, experience in a daycare setting, or environmental/educational classes.

• Must have a high school diploma/GED
• Must have a valid California Driver's License
• Must be CPR and First Aid certified
• Must be able to provide transportation to and from work.

Licenses and Certificates

Current CPR and First Aid certification are desirable. (CPR and First Aid certification and re-certification will be offered to new employees on June 13, 2025).

Must be able to provide official documentation of hours and certifications obtained within Early Childhood Education.

 

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Various Program and Various Program Hours

Substitute hours are not guaranteed and may vary.

Typical Preschool Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Typical Lunch Bunch Schedule: Monday through Thursday, noon to 2 p.m.

Worked hours outside the typical schedule can be up to 7 hours a month

 

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand, sit, bend, squat, climb, kneel, jump, run, twist and reach, and lift and carry weight of 30 pounds or less while coordinating and or/ supervising activities.
