San Mateo County Parks is currently seeking a part time (20 hours/week) extra help Interpretive Specialist Intern for the Department’s Interpretive Division.

The Interpretive Division has an environmental education and community engagement focus. It hosts a variety of events and activities throughout the year, including the Take A Hike Challenge, library and community partnerships, camping trips, seasonal large scale festivals, and more! The Interpretive Division staff also assist in creating content for the Department’s social media pages.

Examples Of Duties:

The Interpretive Specialist Intern position is responsible for assisting Interpretive Division staff with the following:

• Organizing and co-leading programs/events for the general public
• Creating interpretive materials and content for the Department
• Other duties as assigned

NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

Public Safety Dispatcher I is the entry level class in the Public Safety Dispatch series.  Performs a variety of duties involved in receiving, evaluating, prioritizing, and relaying calls for emergency and non-emergency public safety assistance; dispatches appropriate units and coordinates response of emergency personnel; operates a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer aided dispatch systems; and performs a wide variety of specialized clerical duties involved in the preparation, maintenance, and release of materials related to law enforcement activities.

Dispatcher I

Education/Training:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by successful completion of the basic dispatcher course within specified time period.

Experience:

Two years of increasingly responsible clerical experience that includes customer service in an environment with frequent interruptions.

 

Dispatcher II Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by successful completion of the basic dispatcher course. Experience: Two years of experience comparable to that of a Dispatcher I with the City of Ceres.

SELECTION PROCESS

The City of Berkeley is seeking a Treasury Manager to join the Finance Department! In this role, you will serve as a division-level manager responsible for overseeing all staff and operational activities of the Treasury Division.

San Mateo County Health is seeking a well-qualified individual for the position of Chief Animal Control & Licensing and Chief Deputy Registrar of Vital Records (Health Services Manager II). This high-level manager will plan, coordinate, implement and manage activities of County-wide programs and services; recommend, develop, implement and evaluate goals, objectives, policies and procedures; provide leadership and coordination to community groups, public and private agencies, advisory boards and volunteers in planning and implementing programs.

There is currently one regular vacancy within the Public Health, Policy & Planning Division located in San Mateo, CA. This position will travel/drive within the County to perform duties of the job and will provide oversight to the following programs:

Animal Control and Licensing 

• Coordination of animal control services among the 20 city partners. Oversight includes contract and fiscal management of a $6.5 million contract annually, program implementation, reporting compliance, and evaluation.
• Management of the County’s 4,300-square-foot animal shelter, which houses stray and owned animals as well as wildlife. Annually, the shelter receives approximately 4,200 live dogs and cats and provides care for an additional 750 domestic animals.
• Response to nearly 10,000 field services calls and collection of approximately 1,700 live wild animals in the field each year.
• Oversight of the Veterinary Wellness Program to provide access to vaccinations, veterinary services, and necessary medical care for animals within homeless and low-income communities.
• Maintenance of the Fostering Wellness Program to ensure individuals entering rehabilitation programs or hospitals can access essential services without surrendering their pets by temporarily placing their animals in foster care.
• Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Animal Control Branch Director responsibilities to coordinate effective and unified emergency response in collaboration with Peninsula Humane Society, SPCA, and the San Mateo County Large Animal Evacuation Group.
• Knowledge of animal control laws to support enforcement and provide community education.

 

Vital Records

• Ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations for birth and death records.
• Maintaining awareness and knowledge state and federal laws and regulations.
• Timely submission of accurate birth and death records to aid epidemiology in the reduction of negative health outcomes through research, community education, and health policy development.
• Oversight of the distribution of medical marijuana ID cards.
• Coordination with County Coroner, County Attorney, Board of Supervisors, funeral homes, and County residents for vital records requests and requirements.

This position reports to the Director of Public Health, Policy & Planning and directly supervises nine staff and manages a team of thirteen professional and support staff. 

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:  

• Plan, direct, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of activities, services and programs for Animal Control and Licensing/Vital Records. 
• Direct, coordinate, and participate in the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities that balance both mandated services and public health needs.
• Ensure accurate data collection and reporting to fulfill legal obligations.
• Ensure services are coordinated with programs of other County Health divisions and County departments.
• Maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of public and private organizations such as internal and external county divisions and departments, external government agencies, community-based organizations and private contractors.
• Conduct public relations to promote program goals, objectives and regulations.
• Establish, facilitate and maintain effective communication, internally and externally.
• Identify operational and service delivery problems and implement solutions.
• Direct and assist in managing budget for programs and services.
• Prepare, administer and monitor approved budget to ensure the accomplishment of objectives within budget restrictions.
• Ensure that programs are funded with adequate resources to maintain mandated and expected levels of service.
• Negotiate or participate in negotiation of contracts with outside vendors, consultants or organizations; monitor and evaluate related fiscal and legal liabilities.

Ideal candidate will possess:

• At least three years’ experience supervising animal control and licensing programs and/or vital records services. 
• Experience in animal care, husbandry, or related fields, or with a proven track record in administrative support and office operations.
• Experience in managing programs with multiple funding streams, including grants and fees.
• Experience in emergency action planning and management.
• Knowledge of applicable Health and Safety Codes (for example, CA HSC 122322, CA HSC 121690, CA HSC 122331, CA HSC Division 102).
• Ability to implement change management principles and practices.
• Experienced with analyzing and presenting data in ways that are easily understandable for a diverse array of audiences.
• Experience developing solicitations for services or vendor agreements and developing, implementing, and monitoring contracts. 
• Knowledge of invoicing and reimbursement practices (for example, Accounts Payable Invoice Automation, Coupa, Relish AI).
• Experience with Microsoft Suite applications including Excel, Power BI, SharePoint.
• Working knowledge of required reporting systems (for example, Cornerstone, Electronic Death Records, Electronic Birth Records, Fetal Death Registration Module).

Under general direction, the Senior Human Resources Analyst performs advanced professional and technical work in support of key human resources programs, including labor and employee relations and classification and compensation. This role combines program oversight with hands-on execution, providing complex analytical and staff support to Human Resources management. Funded for an initial three-year term, the position offers an experienced HR professional the opportunity to take ownership, apply sound judgment, and use analytical expertise to address complex workforce challenges.

The City of Dixon is excited to announce the recruitment for an Interim Public Works Director (Retired Annuitant) for a duration of 6-12 months. This interim appointment is a great opportunity for highly motivated individuals ready to expand and refine their Public Works career.

The Interim Public Works Director will play a critical leadership role during a period of elevated development activity and organizational transition. This position requires a hands-on leader who can maintain momentum on existing initiatives while advancing new priorities across Public Works, Engineering, and land development functions.

This is an exempt, at-will senior management position directly responsible to the City Manager.

The City of Berkeley is seeking a General Services Manager to join the Finance Department! In this role, you will act as the division head and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the programs and activities of the General Services Division. You'll supervise staff, oversee procurement and mail services, and ensure compliance with City policies.

Responsibilities include oversight of a centralized Purchasing function. Working with departments, the Division identifies equipment, goods, and services that will meet the City’s needs and creates cost effective purchasing and maintenance agreements. The Division also issues and awards all non-construction bids and Request for Proposals, and opens all construction bids to obtain the best competitive pricing. The General Services Manager also works to enforce compliance of all City procurement and contracting policies, maintain the Purchasing information on the City’s website, and assure that customers and vendors have online access to needed information and forms.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

EDUCATION
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college with major course work in accounting, business administration, information technology or public administration or a related field.

EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience with management and supervisory responsibility for purchasing, accounts payable or other municipal services functions similar to those identified herein, of which two (2) years of experience must have been in managing a centralized purchasing operation. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year-for-year basis.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Equipment Superintendent in the Public Works Department—a critical leadership role at the center of the City’s fleet strategy and sustainability goals. Working in close partnership with the Public Works Operations Manager, you will help shape the future of Berkeley’s diverse and highly visible municipal fleet.

The Equipment Maintenance Division includes 14 full-time technicians and two supervisors, and the Equipment Superintendent is directly accountable for ensuring safe, efficient, and fiscally responsible fleet operations. This role offers the opportunity to lead and innovate while managing two repair facilities and overseeing a fleet of more than 570 vehicles and equipment assets, including light-duty vehicles, on- and off-road heavy equipment, refuse trucks, generators, and emergency vehicles.

A key focus of this position is advancing the City’s fleet electrification and clean transportation initiatives, including navigating California’s Advanced Clean Fleets regulations and collaborating with Engineering to plan and build the required charging infrastructure. You will work closely with user departments—primarily Police, Fire, Parks, Public Works, and the Zero Waste Division—to ensure the right equipment is procured, maintained, and deployed, while providing clear and actionable reporting on fleet condition, utilization, and lifecycle costs.

The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking strategist who combines technical expertise with strong business judgment. You understand how to articulate the long-term financial value of assets, balancing upfront capital investment with operational savings. You are skilled at using a Fleet Information Management System, leveraging telematics and data analytics to monitor utilization, right-size the fleet, reduce waste, and maximize efficiency. You know when to perform repairs in-house and when to partner with outside vendors—all while maintaining a high standard of customer service and supporting a skilled, safety-focused workforce.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE
Seven years of increasingly responsible equipment maintenance experience at the journey level or above which includes a minimum of three years supervision at a level equivalent to or above the Mechanic Supervisor class.

Additional coursework in vehicle and equipment maintenance, public or business administration, or related areas may be substituted for the non-supervisory experience, on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
